Halo 5 Mythic Difficulty Guide - MISSION 15: Guardians

The Tru7h About Guardians

Rating: Medium

Type: Covenant-Promethean Balanced

And here it is, folks. We've reached the end of our great journey. At first, I thought this mission was going to be as boring as the back half of "Swords of Sanghelios," but as it turns out, there's a nifty little skip that will allow you to by pass destroying the cores entirely, making this one of the shortest missions in the game and full of speedrunning glee! In my own opinion, getting there is the hard part as you try and make your way around the Covenant/Promethean war zones, and the most annoying part is when all you're doing is standing around waiting. So now that we're on the final mission, let's wrap up this incredible Mythic journey!

Leave No Spartan Behind

You'll start the mission standing around listening to our heroes spill out a bunch of exposition. I usually like to use this time to jump on top of the hologram of the cryptum and spin around looking at all of the different species of Covenant and Prometheans locked behind individual shield barriers. And they don't seem too happy about it either. When Exuberant opens the door to let you out, you'll find yourself playing the waiting game once more as you tap your foot impatiently waiting for the lift to start moving, taking you all the way down to the cryptum area. At least you get to stand around watching all of the pretty Guardians leaving to conquer the galaxy, right?

When you finally land, make sure you have your Battle Rifle equipped, and start heading through the ice until you reach the first incursion between the Covenant and the Prometheans. Normally they'll be too busy fighting each other to pay any real attention to you, but just to be safe, go ahead and snipe the Ranger Jackal over on the left ice ledge. Now hightail it to the ledge and continue to trace the left side of the area while sprinting and dashing as fast as you possibly can. When you reach the door, it will open for you even before you're actually there. Use the incline to get a running jump to allow you to soar past the Soldier Captain guarding your exit.

Keep sprinting to the left. A Watcher will spawn in front of you. Melee the little bastard to get your shields back up, and keep running while tracing the left side of the room. You MIGHT get sniped here by one of the two Soldier Snipers in the middle platform, but it's pretty rare. When you're about to reach the exit, note that it's currently sealed off while also being guarded by a pair of Focus Turrets. Ignore the cannons, and instead, head straight for the door. Tap the door and immediately dash right to avoid the cannon fire. The doors should be open now. Head through and hug the other side of the door frame to ensure that you don't get blasted.

Now you can head over to the Mantis, but be quick! A Phantom is about to arrive to drop off Covenant reinforcements, and they'll be engaged by a pair of Promethean Soldiers. Hope in the Mantis and wait for the Phantom to arrive, as soon as the troops are dropped off, flatten them! There will be a few Jackals and Grunts along with one Elite. One of the Grunts my take a spare Ghost, but it won't be a challenge at all for your mighty Mantis. Decimate both the Covenant and the Prometheans.

Once the coast is clear, hop out of the Mantis (temporarily) so you can grab the red Vorpal Talon Energy Sword from the right-most ice ledge. Now get back into the Mantis and start heading for the energy core on the back left corner of the map. It will be guarded by a Knight Commander with an Incineration Cannon along with several Crawlers. Make sure you have plenty of cover and start taking them out one at a time. Pay extra close attention to the Knight, because that thing does NOT fool around with it's Incineration Cannon!

After nothing is moving, you can ignore the core and proceed to the skip to finish the mission. Like with Sunaion, putting this in writing won't benefit anyone. You'll need to watch the video, but here are the basics. You're going to be using Sprint and Dash to climb on top of the ice glacier. From there, you'll need to rely on a series of audio and visual queues to make your way along the outside of the map. One wrong move here and you'll fall to your death. You also need to make sure that each area is loaded before you jump into it. Don't worry. The video shows you exactly where to go and what visual and audio queues you'll need to be paying close attention to in order to succeed. If done properly, doing the skip will bring you to the very end of the mission as well as Halo 5: Guardians Mythic Difficulty!

Congratulations, Spartan! That was one hell of a ride, but I knew you would prevail. Now you can sit back and watch the the game's cliffhanger ending after Osiris and Exuberant rescue Master Chief and Blue Team.
