Halo 5 Mythic Difficulty Guide - MISSION 13: Genesis

The Tru7h About Genesis

Rating: Easy

Type: Covenant-Promethean Balanced

After the last mission, having a scenario where you're driving a tank for 90 percent of the time sounds pretty good if you ask me. Overall, this mission is a fairly relaxing one after dealing with all of the mayhem of Sunaion. For most of it, you'll be able to sit back in the tank and blow everything up from range while both the Covenant and the Prometheans are doing the same to each other. You can even fight the twin Wardens at the end of the mission in the tank as well! All in all, it's a nice wind down mission and one that many in the Mythic community consider to be one of the easiest. So let's roll on through!

Danger Zone

Ever wondered what it would be like to run down the side of a skyscraper? As it turns out, 343 has you covered! You begin the mission on top of the Guardian that you and the rest of Osiris piggybacked on in order to reach the planet Genesis, the located of the Master Chief and Blue Team. So, yes. Using the new Spartan Mag Boot technology, we'll actually be running DOWN the side of the Guardian as it attempts to shake you off.

The physics here have been drastically altered to give a "falling effect" as you traverse down the Guardian. Several Prometheans will spawn to try to stop you. So, what do you do? The best strategy I've found is to simply stay in the middle and utilize your Sprint and Dash abilities to the max. Also, you'll want to jump as much as possible. In this scenario, your momentum will continue to build, allowing you to soar right over all your foes. In theory, you shouldn't have to fire a single shot, but if you find the same enemies are consistently giving you grief, don't hesitate to stabilize and open fire.

One important aspect to keep in mind here is that this is really the only location in the game where if you go into armor-lock, your teammates can't revive you. Why? Because you're falling damnit! So be as fast an agile as you can possibly be. Don't engage the enemy (Crawlers and Soldiers) unless they've left you no alternative, because it will only serve to slow you down if you do. Using the above techniques, you should be able to reach the quicktime event in which you finally disengage from the Guardian and land safety on the ground along with the rest of your squad.

Head for the structure straight ahead while you allow the rest of Osiris to take in the scenery. It's here that you'll meet the bubbly monitor of Genesis known as 031 Exuberant Witness. And after you reach the bottom of your elevator ride, she has a rather nice gift for you.

Call Me Cupid

A fun little Avery Johnson reference for you right there. That's right. She brought you a Scorpion Tank! Though how it got there to begin with still has me scratching my head regardless of what they say in the game. So for the rest of the mission, you'll be driving around this beauty, meaning from here on out, MOST of what you'll encounter is pretty straight forward since all you have to do is point, shoot, and move on to the next encounter.

Your first targets will be a pair of Ghosts. Blast them and move towards the metal platform where a Soldier Captain will spawn and immediately start lobbing Splinter mortar in your direction. Blast him, because tank beats everything! As you move up further, the Covenant will begin directly engaging the Prometheans, so prioritize your targets based off of what is immediately a direct threat to you. First up? A Focus Turret will spawn in to your right. Nuke it. Next, off in the distance will be a Wraith that will soon be switching its focus to you. Burn it down. Off in the distance will also be a Phaeton. If the Covenant don't take it out first, do it for them.

As you get to clearing the area, station yourself near the back opposite of the exit door. This area will be filled with both Promethean Crawlers and Knights, of which a few of the latter will be Commanders with Incineration Cannons, mopping up the Covenant for you. There is ONE Fuel Rod Cannon wielding Grunt on the left, so keep a lookout for him as well. From there, your main focus should be trained on the Knight Commanders and any foes that at least appear to be heading in your direction. Your main goal here is to keep your tank intact because it's the only one you'll get, and you will desperately need it for the end of the mission.

When all enemies are down, Exuberant will unlock the door for you, but tread carefully (pun intended). Just beyond the bend to the left will be a Ghost as well as a very aggressive Covenant Banshee. Take out the Ghost first (since it's closer) and peak out from behind the wall to take shots at the Banshee so you can dodge any incoming Fuel Rod shots.

From here, things start to become increasingly chaotic. There will be two Wraiths beyond the hill, one right behind the other. Park your tank sideways to make it easier to maneuver back and forth to dodge incoming mortar. Once the tanks are down, proceed towards the bridge. Look to your right to kill any Grunts trying to commandeer one of the currently unoccupied Ghosts, but leave the Ghosts themselves intact. You'll need to use one later. For now turn your focus back to the bridge and decimate the Focus Turret that spawns. To the left of the bridge, there will be an Elite engaging a regular Knight. Nuke them both and proceed towards the bridge itself while taking out anything that may try to stand in your way.

You'll want to backtrack, however, the moment you reach the edge of the Bridge. An aggressive Knight Commander with an Incineration Cannon is about to spawn in, and you want to keep plenty of distance between it and you. Once you've killed the Knight, you can utilize the bridge to start wiping everything else out on the Battlefield. This will include more Knights and Crawlers, Ghosts, and a Phaeton. Systematically obliterate them all while keeping a close eye out to make sure none attempt to advance to your current location.

When the enemies are down, proceed forward. There may or may not be an active Wraith hiding in the rocks over to your left. If not, continue to move around the bend and down the hill towards the not-yet-active light bridge. There will be one single Wraith there to greet you, but with the track record of Osiris, it won't be there very long.

Approach the bridge in which Exuberant will activate in order for you to cross. I advise leaving the tank behind and hidden momentarily while you cross on foot. This will trigger the Warden Eternal to spawn with a pair of Focus Turrets on either side providing him with backup. Immediately backtrack to the tank and remain partially hidden behind the rocks while you deal your death blows to both the Turrets and the Warden himself. Now with all three destroyed, we can proceed to the final boss battle of the mission.

The trick here is getting the tank to that final boss fight, which normally you aren't suppose to be able to do. First, you want to leave the tank close to the bridge without crossing it. Next, backtrack to one of the empty Ghosts from earlier in the mission. Hop in and ride towards the tank. Now, in order to get this to work you'll need to splatter two of your teammates and command the one survivor to hop into the secondary gunner seat of the Scorpion. Now, using the Ghost, drive across the bridge, turn right, head up the ramp and towards the boss area. As long as you touch the metal plating, your teammate and the tank will both teleport to the top of the hill behind you, allowing you to battle out the next encounter with your Scorpion! And I highly recommend it too given that you'll be going toe to toe with not one, but TWO Warden Eternals along with several Crawlers, Soldiers, and a few Knights as well.

Bombard the two Wardens from a safe distance while also taking care to eliminate any stragglers that attempt to advance on your location. Taking out the two Wardens will cause the rest of the enemies to despawn leaving the area completely barren. You can now cross over the metal area and to the final door to end the mission.

Now, it's time to catch up with Blue Team for one final ride.
