The Return of an Old Friend
Not sure how many of you remember Mike Hill; he created some truly spectacular Halo artwork in 2005 and 2006. We haven't heard from him in a while - but today, he found a piece he'd whipped up last year, just an idea for MJOLNIR armor development. It's a tad tall for wallpaper, but it's GORGEOUS. Take a look. (Louis Wu 23:24:27 UTC)

New Warthog Variant from Mike Hill
Mike Hill stopped by our forum to ask for feedback on a new Warthog variant he's working on - awesome wheels! We've added the image to his gallery here, as well, but be sure to give him feedback on the render in the forum thread. (Louis Wu 12:50:35 UTC)

New Art from Mike Hill
Mike Hill wrote with word of a new project - he's working on a Halo comic. He sent along one of 35 or 40 frames he plans on using - this will be 'a little adventure the Chief and a squad of Pelican-bound ODSTs will embark on'. Amazing detail - check it out on his gallery! He also mentioned that he's revamped his website (check out this work-in-progress bike... I want!), and that there's a pretty cool article that was recently published in Imagine Magazine that included some great text and (Halo) pics from him. And while I was poking around the site, I found two other Halo-related images (which have been added to his gallery here) - a spectacular Forerunner-dominated landscape, and a 3D Warthog render - or the beginnings of one. Keep an eye on this guy! (Louis Wu 03:26:19 UTC)

Mike Hill - our newest Featured Artist
Our collection of Artist Galleries just expanded - Mike Hill now has a page here. Mike's work has made the news page a few times - but the news moves quickly around these parts, and it's great to finally have a resting place for this gorgeous stuff. There's a new piece for your perusal - Hybrid is what happens when someone with a lot of talent combines a 3D render with a video screencap and a lot of home lovin'... (Louis Wu 18:36:49 UTC)

Wow, does that look good!
Another one of our poster winners, Indutiomarus, just got his prize back from the frame shop... and wow. (He says the angle's to avoid the glare.) Makes me wish I'd entered! (The pic is by Mike Hill, if you don't recognize it.) (Louis Wu 07:32:48 UTC)

Spreading The Love
This one's offtopic... except for the people involved. Great read, though. Over at CGSociety, there's a tutorial by Mike Hill - if the name doesn't sound familiar, search our news archives. The tutorial isn't Halo-related, it shows how he put together a specific piece (and there's a ton of interesting info in there, even for non-artists like me)... but in the short blurb at the end, he credits Craig Mullins as his main inspiration - not for this particular piece, but for his desire to be a concept artist in the first place! Coolness. Thanks to Veegie for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 22:49:04 UTC)

Nightstalker
You might remember a guy named Mike Hill - he's done a couple of sketches of Halo subjects. (Yeah, and Reinhold Meissner has climbed a couple of hills.) There was his MC with a Warthog, and Sniper Waiting... well, now there's a new pic called 'nightstalker' (900x1442, 544k); it was created for the Bungie art contest (which closes tomorrow, if you were still planning to enter), and I simply love it. If you enjoy Mike's work, be sure to check out his website, Freefall Graphics. (Be aware that some of it is NSFW.) Update: mnemesis found a pretty slick abstract sketch of a pelican on Mike's site... the Halo material grows! (Louis Wu 20:16:10 UTC)

Sniper, Waiting
A couple of weeks ago, we showed you a pretty amazing picture created by Mike Hill. Bungie liked it enough that it was added to the Bungie Weekly Update that week. Well, Mike's back - and eventually it'll get added to the various art sections of this site, but again, I couldn't hold this shot. It's a sniper pose - he said it was a study, 'placid'... I disagree. You make up your own mind. There's a small version (142K, 585x422), a huge version (885K, 1928x1377), and a version formatted as a background image (318K, 1024x768). Enjoy! Update: apologies for those who tried early - the links were bad. They're better now. (Louis Wu 00:11:05 UTC)

Bijou? Like the theater?
The Weekly What's Update is now posted at Bungie.net - info about PAX, info about the new playlists coming out in the next couple of weeks, a larger version of Mike Hill's amazing warthog pic we posted this morning, and a really, really scary pic of Mister Chief in a speedo. (Blame DanteThePoet if your eyes bleed.) (Louis Wu 00:40:06 UTC)

He's gonna need some buffing...
We got an art submission this morning that blew me away - I'm not going to have time to process the Miscellaneous Art queue right now, but I thought this should make it out into the community. Mike Hill put together a gorgeous action shot (347K) showing the Master Chief making use of that Warthog winch. He promises more in the future - I'm looking forward to it! (Louis Wu 15:08:11 UTC)
