Game Play - fusing theater and videogames
Game Play is a festival running through July 25 at the Brick Theater in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It's a collection of shows that link theater with videogames - and one of the shows combines classical greek mythology with Halo 3. Go read about it in the New York Times! Dream Maker Curious about what might be coming later today in the Bungie Weekly Update? SketchFactor stopped by NeoGAF yesterday with some BODACIOUS info (I'm droolin')... and followed it up this morning with some timing info. Do yourself a favor - take the minute or two needed to read these two posts. You won't regret it. (Louis Wu 17:32:37 UTC) (permalink)
Friday's Fan Fiction
Totally forgot to update the Fan Fiction section this morning - it's hard to remember what day it is in summer! Go by and read, though - there are 2 new pieces. (I guess writers are taking it easy now, too...) (Louis Wu 17:22:50 UTC) (permalink)

Should game companies charge extra for online play? Whee... fun. Michael Pachter, a well-known games industry analyst, is suggesting that the decline in game software sales in the US is due to 'the replay value of titles such as Halo 3 and Call of Duty' - and that gaming companies should move to charging extra for online play to counteract this problem. Sounds like a win-win! (Well, for someone. Not gamers, obviously.) (Louis Wu 16:56:28 UTC) (permalink)
Dutchy Montage 2
RVideo pointed us to Dutchy's Montage 2 (edited by ExuS) at Halo3Forum.com - he described it as "easily the highest quality montage I have ever seen on H3F." Now, I've watched a LOT of montages, and I have no idea if I could make such a statement at this point... but I will definitely agree that the overall quality is amazingly high. Everything from the gameplay to the montage timing to the editing effects is professional-quality. It's long (11 minutes or so)... but absolutely worth a watch. There's a streaming link - but if you've got the bandwidth, you really want to download the half-gig HD WMV. It's gorgeous.

Hilarious Achievement Hunting
A couple of days ago, pete_the_duck decided to organize a little Achievement-gathering party, for folks who were interested in some of the Waypoint-offered Reach Armor but who hadn't finished the required Halo 3 Achievements. (This is not normally a condoned way of getting Achievements... but Halo 3 is now a 3-year-old game, and some of the Achievements become very, very difficult at higher skill levels.) Last night, the event went off, as planned (there were actually multiple groups participating)... and much fun was had. You can browse a couple of threads on our forum (this one, and this one, so far) - pictures, videos, and reminiscences abound. Thanks to everyone who played - and to Bungie, for the playground!
