Things that make you go 'hmm...' Been a little while since I used that headline... but Laird found a collection of images at Sterling Davis Photo labeled 'Biscuit Filmworks/Halo', showing off some greenscreened photography of what LOOKS like a Noble Team Spartan. (The armor looks like Kat, but the model's a man.) This went down in Los Angeles, but there's no date anywhere. Could this be related to tomorrow's Bungie Day reveal... or is it something else? Curiouser and curiouser... Update: found a blog entry tied to the gallery; this was posted a week ago Saturday. As Davis mentions, Biscuit Filmworks was involved in the 'Birth of a Spartan' piece - maybe this is a followup? Update: Guess these were causing Sterling Davis a headache; they're offline now. Birth of a Trailer
There's an interesting breakdown of the visual effects used to create the 'Birth of a Spartan' trailer for Halo Reach over at fxguide - discussion includes choice of environment, how the external shots were done, what was modeled and what was real, how the medical stuff was handled. Pretty fascinating stuff! Thanks to Mariachi for noticing. (Louis Wu 19:14:51 UTC) (permalink)

Bungie Day - keep your expectations in check For folks expecting massive reveals/gifts/whatever from Bungie tomorrow... pare back your expectations. Brian Jarrard posted a note at NeoGAF that because of internal schedules and travel, Bungie had to outsource their 'official Bungie Day surprise' - no word as to who. It should be something good, though! (And in unrelated news... congrats, urk!) (Louis Wu 14:26:25 UTC) (permalink)

Halo Custom Edition News - the HaloMaps version Dennis Powers sent us some statistics, and some intriguing creations, all seen at Halomaps.org recently. Since January 1 of this year, almost 300 new files have been added, and they're averaging almost 300,000 downloads/month - not bad for a 7-year-old product! Stuff you might want to look at: Noobyourmom has created a single-player campaign with role-playing elements in it - Halo Covert Ops currently has six maps (one | two | three | four | five | six) where you play as an ODST and are given a mission where you can make choices that determine the game play and storyline. Very cool! In addition, he mentioned another few maps worth taking a look at (some we already highlighted last month - this is just the new stuff): Go browse - tons of stuff!

Halo Reach: Elite Power Rangers
ElzarTheBam pointed out another video showing off modded content from Halo Reach - Elite models colored to look like Power Rangers! The video's ridiculously long for its content, but the creator really wanted to include the entire Power Rangers theme song. (Louis Wu 11:42:00 UTC) (permalink)

Jumping in to someone else's universe
Tobias Buckell and a number of other authors talked to io9 about why established authors take on franchise tie-in writing gigs. Buckell's discussion focuses on The Cole Protocol and Halo, for the most part, but several of the authors involved have written Halo Universe stories. Nice read! Thanks, AngelicLionheart.
