Controlling access... or buying good reviews?
There's an interesting article over at Ars Technica about gaming reviews, and how the circumstances under which they take place might affect their conclusions. It focuses on an event sponsored by Activision, in which reviewers were put up at a resort in Santa Barbara, airfare and lodging included, in order to play Modern Warfare 2 for a couple of days straight - but did the perks affect the reviews themselves? Halo is mentioned, since Microsoft hosts its own play sessions for reviewers - though transportation and lodging are NOT part of that deal. Microsoft says Halo is tested this way to control access to copies of the game - but is putting reviewers up in a resort for the weekend, as Activision did, really necessary for that? What do you think? Sound off in our forum! (Louis Wu 15:14:51 UTC) (permalink)

(Halo: Reborn appears on the Halo 3 soundtrack; the piece appears only in-game in ODST.) (Louis Wu 14:07:56 UTC) (permalink)
