This is Ch. 2 of Halo 2: Jupiter. I thank everyone for helping me out with giving me advice and such. Please continue to help me improve upon my story. SuperChink316@hotmail.com. Please tell me if I should continue this series!!!!!!!!!

July 4, 2560. We have successfully landed on Tarsonis and were all briefed about covenant strongholds and fleet positions. After the briefing we were divided into our separate companies of about 25 men each. And divided further into companies of either 15 or 10 and then into our individual lances. Our lance, alpha cat, was accompanies by beta and gamma cat. Our first assignment was to overtake a large covenant base on Elentra, an E1-class planet, and in other words, a gigantic desert planet. According to UGD intelligence, this base was the primary fuel-mining colony that supplied at least _ of the covenant armada's fuel. We were prepared to depart at 1100 hours.

Each of the lances in the Shawdowcats (our company name) were aboard a separate cruiser, which insured that at least one company lance would make it down. When we arrived 300000 kilometers away from the planet, we discovered that the intelligence was right. There were about 5 covenant ships in orbit refueling. Out cruisers sent out a comm., stating that they were about to engage in the enemy. The three cruisers immediately sent out Guardian fighters, and Longsword bombers. In a matter of 2 minutes the cruisers were engaged with all of the covenant ships. Only 3 ships were powered up because the other 2 were powered down while refueling. Our cruiser immediately fired upon the 2 helpless frigates, while the other 2 attacked the ships in orbit. Our Havoc missiles ripped through one of the frigates causing a gigantic explosion, which destroyed the pipes connecting the surface to the ship. While we targeted the second frigate, a plasma torpedo from one of the covenant cruisers destroyed our missile guidance system. I heard the intercom calling for all Spartans to go aboard the pelican for immediate dispatch. I race down to the docking bays and into the pelican, while watching Guardians and Longswords rearm and refuel. When the rest of my lance arrived we rose from the iron floor of the cruiser and began our journey to the covenant base.

After entering the atmosphere, we saw the massive covenant foundation. The damn thing looked like a city. Longswords were making bombing passes over the institution but didn't do much except take out most of the defenses on the southern side. We met up with the rest of our company and prepared to move out toward the south side.

"This is gonna be some hard shit."
"Yeah...I know...the covenant are going to reinforce that side so we..."
      "Better strike now, I know."
"I'm glad that they brought us the Dune buggies."
"When we finish, evac better be here in a jiff or I'm breaking some legs."

This conversation lasted for about 4 minutes. During that time, we devised a plan to infiltrate and destroy the institution. The best way to do this was to plant Cryphate (a very high explosive materiel) mines next to the main fuel cells. Our secondary mission was to download the covenant military archives for study. We hopped in our dune buggies, which were large, agile warthogs. There were two high caliber gauss rifle on the back that were used by 2 Spartans while 3 others rode in the front. We made it to the checkpoint in about 3 minutes. All of the snipers from the company scanned other the southern side. A gigantic hole was made by a bomb from one of the Longswords. The only defense there was a poorly made bunker our of sandbags with 5 grunts armed with plasma rifles (since the last war, covenant has beefed up on arming their soldiers) and one with a fuel rod gun...which may pose a problem. We decided that one dune buggy was to drive and distract all the grunts while the snipers took out as many as they could. I volunteered...well...demanded that I be the driver while Sam and a Spartan from beta took the guns. I put my cybernetic boot on the gas and we rushed toward the gapping hole. We got to the entrance and my gunners started to fire. The grunts were all sleeping so the rifles sliced through three of them while the snipers took out the remaining two. Then, apparently, all this commotion caught the attention of several elites on the top of a balcony and we were immediately under fire. Plasma bolts rained down at us, most of them landing harmlessly into the sand turning it into glass. One did manage to hit me on the neck and even though my shields held I could fell my skin start to get hot. I raised my head up to get a glimpse of who had hit me but there was nothing there but a black crater. I turned around to see a Spartan waving at me.

The company all came to the gaping hole in the side of the structure. My lance proceeded into the complex, which appeared to be the vehicle hanger. There were rows and rows of ghosts, banshees, and the newest addition to the covenant force, silences. The silence was floating assault vehicle, which I had only seen once besides this time, and seated four men. 1 was a pilot, the person beside him was a passenger and there were two gunner positions in the back to fire plasma turrets. We thought that this might come in handy so we hijacked four of the silences and put them next to the dune buggies. We equipped our weapons and headed inside.

My lance was to proceed and place the explosives. Beta was to download the military archives and Gamma was to severe communications so the base couldn't make a distress call. The company decided that we were to rendezvous in 15 minutes at the same blown up spot. As beta and gamma went their separate ways, my lance moved towards a computer port to find out where the fuel cells were. While hacking into the battlenet, a group of jackals saw us and began to fire. I told June to kept working while the rest of us gave her cover fire. My lance fired their rifles but the bullet bounced off their shields. Sam managed to get in a lucky shot and tore one of the limbs off a jackal. I whipped out my mini gun and started to fire. I wasted about 300 rounds in 2 seconds but I managed to take out all of the covenant. June finished hacking and found the location of the fuel cells. We hurried out of the corridor leaving the jackals in a bloody mess.

Our noisy encounter didn't go unnoticed. As we ran toward the fueling room, we heard an elite call out through then intercom that there were Spartans in the building. All of us muttered curses under our breaths and kept running. Once we arrived we chucked some high impact (in other words bouncy with big explosion) frags in the room in case of any defenders. Strangely there were no defensive units. We carefully placed Cryphate mines next each of the fuel cells and left the room. All of the sudden, alarms went off everywhere. Elites stormed in from a northeastern door. We instinctively started to fire as we made our exit. We managed to bring down 5 elites but 10 more shot at us. Grenades were launched both ways. Explosions echoed through my ears. Luke fell to the floor with a remains of a bolt in his legs. I boosted his up while firing with my rifle. He took my mini gun and fired, taking down another four elites. At that point the remaining two covenant decided it was better to run and sprinted out where the came. We left the room leaving bullet-rittled carcasses of covenant behind us. We reached the rendezvous without much trouble except for a lone elite or jackal that we easily dispatched of. Once we met up with the rest of the company, we radioed in for evac. The only problem is...there was a hoard of covenant between the outside and us. The mass of covenant was made up of at least 35 grunts, 25 jackals, 35 elites, and 5 hunters. And it was just 15 Spartans to fight them. My lance would go in and fire upon the elites, jackals and grunts. Beta was to direct most of their fire on the hunters. Gamma would provide cover fire to get us into position. I went first followed my Luke, James, and Sam. June stayed back to snipe whatever she could. Gamma was already firing so we dashed to the right behind a mortar tank. Beta was already in position so I gave the ok to fire. Muzzle blasts and plasma pulses could be heard everywhere. Screams echoed through out the hanger. I saw a grunt get decapitated by a gauss round while a sniper bullet when straight through a jackal's shield and into the soft body. The elites were smart and hid behind the others and fired every so often. I saw one Spartan get hit in the chest with a fuel rocket. He was lifted off the ground and slammed into the wall. Someone yelled out FRAG OUT so all of us chucked a couple grenades out. The explosion was tremendous. Not only did we eliminate about _ of the entire covenant forces, we destroyed about half of the vehicles in the hanger. The remaining covenant attackers gave up and put down their weapons. By that time the pelicans arrived and we picked up the wounded, secured the prisoners, and picked up all of the vehicles we could and departed from the planet.

While on the way up to our cruiser, a bright light flashed from the planet and all that was left of the fuel station was a gigantic black crater.
