ÆÇ-§é or in the language of their enemies, Kelsorg, walked over to the console next to his ship. He checked it several times to try to determine what went wrong. Why was the human drop ship not destroyed when he had fired? He had been checking since the mission and still he couldn't find out why his plasma bolts hadn't struck their target. It wasn't piloting error, he had figured that out quickly enough, and he was almost sure that it wasn't his ship. So why had he missed? Finally Kelsorg went to his berth for a rest. They were ordered to destroy the ring but the admiral had decided to try and salvage anything he could before then. He figured that they would be heroes if they came back with new technology. Kelsorg dreamed of the legend. The legend tells of a dangerous beast locked up in the ring. The Humans had released it. The repulsive beast had been barely contained by a Covenant Elite who at the last moment did something to cause the creatures to die. It was considered only a legend by most until the discovery of a tablet that showed a partial location of the dreaded ring. They immediately set out on a quest to destroy the humans that had almost caused the destruction of the universe. After much searching they found the other part of the map on a human planet. The humans were almost gone, but now they had found the thing most feared...Halo. The Prophets had warned everyone about something like this. What if the humans released the beast once again! They had to be stopped. Kelsorg awoke before his subconscious had a chance to ponder the truth of the legend aside from the myths. He heard his name being called. He slid into his armor and walked down the hall to his awaiting banshee. Kelsorg read his briefing on the panel next to it. He was to provide cover for the drop ships going to the Silent Cartographer. There had been heavy fighting there. His first mission to the ring had been a success. He had been assigned to capture the remaining crew on the human ship. He completed his mission with only 2 grunt casualties. Just before he got in, though, he heard an alarm start to ring. His mind pondered what it could be about, but before he finished, the intercom rang out with the chilling message that the humans were attempting to assault his ship. Never before had something like this happened. Then he remembered the human prisoners. One was the captain of the human ship. A jackal hurried past almost running into Kelsorg. Kelsorg called out, "Where are you going in such a hurry, and why did you run in front of me? You know that you shouldn't pass a superior species." " I'm sorry sir, but I have orders to go to the gravity lift and await further commands. I have orders; I wouldn't pass you otherwise. Please believe me." The Jackal whined. "Then be on your way, stupid Jackal. And never cross me again or I will crush you." "Yes sir. Thank you for your generosity sir." the frightened Jackal answered. "Those stupid Jackals need to be taught a lesson, at least the Grunts try to fight." Kelsorg muttered beneath his breath. He headed towards the gravity lift. When he got there he noticed a huge number of troops. At least 60 Grunts and 25 Elites were assembled. A few jackals were scattered about trying to find out what was happening. A pair of hunters lumbered into the room crushing a Jackal under it. The hunter gave a smirk and said something about not seeing it. Slowly, group after group went down. Kelsorg was thinking about going too, but he decided not to. He hadn't been called so why should he go. Besides, he needed to get some work done on his banshee. He had been planning installing an anti-matter bomb underneath. He left the ever-emptying room and walked back to the hanger. The decks were quite now; everyone was trying to find out what was happening. The hanger had a few dozen troops setting up defensive positions. Just in case the Humans got this far, Kelsorg decided to put his Banshee away. He pressed a button and the anti-gravity pods came to life. His ship rose up to where it looked like it would hit the ceiling. Just before it hit, though, a door opened allowing the ascending Banshee to enter. Kelsorg felt his buzzer and reached for it. He was to go to the brig to insure that the prisoners didn't escape. He heard what sounded like gunshots on the lower deck of the hanger. Kelsorg rushed to the brig. He saw with relief that the prisoners were secure in their cells. He called the bridge, no one answered. Kelsorg started to panic. Why wasn't the bridge answering? He turned on his active camouflage and quickly became invisible. The door to the brig opened. He brandished his plasma rifle and turned to face the door. A grunt came running into the room. Kelsorg started to relax. The grunt fell face-first on the ground. Kelsorg saw blue fluid pouring out of several holes in his back. He ran towards the door and found several Humans outside. Some were crouching; others were standing. Only then did he notice him. It was one of the things he had killed on Reach. A Spartan. He crept down the hall away from the brig. He knew he couldn't take them all on. He heard some COM chatter. Something about the bridge crew dead. He couldn't believe it. He charged his over-shield. The Humans had already freed the prisoners and were getting ready to leave. He ran at the Spartan but didn't make it. As he got close, hundreds of bullets found his cloaked form. As he collapsed to the floor he wondered what type of creature could take out the commanding crew of a Covenant cruiser and take out one of the highest-ranking Elites on the ship. Blood flowed from his side. He tried to look but couldn't move his head. He watched the Humans leave before he closed his eyes.
