"This is Sargent Wallace! Come in! Echo 419 do you read? Come in dammit!" "This is Echo 419, what's the problem?" "Me and my boys need immediate extraction! Over ten Jackals and two Elites are givin' us hell!" "I'm sorry Sargent! The LC is to hot! From my altitude I can see Covenant dropships bringing in more forces! If you could just hold the..." Wallace tore the com link from his tactical helmet and threw it to the ground. All around him were the sounds of battle and death. "All Marines! Regroup at the dropzone leave the wounded behind!" Wallace winced at the sound of his command... "Leave the wounded behind...", he thought. Then again, they would only decrease their pace... "Where my two snipers? Jackson! Simon! Get your asses over here!" Obediently they crawled under the sloppy line of fire and snapped a crisp salute amongst the choas. "Reporting sir!", the two sharpshooters said, "Awaiting your orders!" "Listen up Marine!", the Sarge bellowed over the gunfire, "You see those two trees over on the east? Well, we're gonna give off some covery fire while your two position yourselves at a good angle! When your ready give us the signal and we'll move out to the extraction point! But you two have to cover our rears... Once the area is secure you boys move to the DZ! Do you get me Marines?" "We get you sir!", they cried. "Okay, Simon and Jackson move it double - time! All MA5B riflemen, covery fire!" All of the rifle wielding Marines sat up from their covering rock and started to fire off armor piercing rounds. They shredded into the Jackals and brought down two elites causing the ear shattering howl of pain. Wallace looked to his right and saw the two snipers dashing across the snow covered terrain and struggling to get up the snow slicked tree. "Hold the line! Cease fire on my mark!, Wallace shouted. Just then two red lights flashed on his HUD, acknowledging the sharpshooter's readiness. "Mark!", Wallace shouted. And without hesitation they ran just in time to hear the cries of the new advesaries. "Give 'em hell Marines...", Wallace said as they continued to run like hell. As the trees became futher and futher away he could hear his two boys dishing out 14.5x 114mm APFSDS rounds from the S2 AM Precision Rifles. "Mendez, Jenkins, Keyes, bring up the front! Hasley, Stanford, you two take the rear in case our snipers have fallen!" Snow crunched under their feet as they dashed to their destination, rifles were at the ready. "Sir!", Mendez shouted,"I'm pickin' up a squad of the Covenant Spec Ops, a hudred meters away!" "Okay boys! Lock and load, prepare to engage. Mendez, who our are bogeys?" "Uh... It appears to be a group of Grunts judging from their speech... According to my translater they're talking about their objective at... guarding a misdropped M808B Scorpion MBT!" "Hot damn!", Sargent Wallace cried, "We can use that to pick up our boys!" They laughed and screamed like wild men. Then they spread out and dashed out to the scared crapless Grunts. "50 meters.", Mendez said excitedly, "And we're getting closer", he said in his best perverted tone. Pretty soon, after dashing like Olympic athletes, they reached the Grunts'camp. Mendez unshouldered his rifle and threw it at the nearest Grunt, knocking it out. The others turned around and reach for their plasma pistols, but Hasley lept from behind and tackled the three and barrage them with punches and headbutts. One Op managed to free himself from the onslaught and run away. But Wallace appeared out of nowhere and drop kicked the fleeing fool. They all laughed. They just couldn't believe that they were going to get out of this hell. And once they got the Scorpion they could go back pick up their snipers, clean house, and get the remaining wounded. The tank was less than a hundred yards away, and no opposition blocked their way according to Mendez. When they arrived, the Scorp looked like an oracle on the white, snowy, ground. "Alright.", Wallace said, "Lets load up!" Mendez popped the hatch and climbed in the cold blackness. "Systems seem to check out... The 90mm HV gun is fully loaded and ready to rock. 7.62mm AP-T is ready to go as well. I'll pilot this thing... Wait a minute! Sarge I'm getting something on the com! It's Simon and Jackson sir! "Gimme that private. Sim', Jack', what's your status?" There was a burst of static and then Jackson came on the line, talking in a calm, cool tone. "Well sir the area is secure and we're heading back to the DZ now... God it's gonna be hell gettin' down from this tree..." "No need.", Wallace chimed in, "We're coming to pick ya'll up on this captured Scorpion." "Roger that Sarge. Wait a minute, I'm picking up several unknown targets on my scanners... Oh my God! What the hell is that?! Sarge! Small creatures are attacking the wounded! Oh Jesus their breaching their insides! Hundreds are approaching our position! Open fire! We're being.........ove.....run.......too....many..can....t..hold....AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" The transmission ended in dead static. "What the hell?!", Hasley cried. For a minute Wallace sat there in disbelief and confusion. "Gear up!", he commanded, "We're moving out to see wha the hell i going on." Mendez fired up the tank and the other five Marines sat in the magnetic grooves on the tank. They didn't know what they were up against, that wasn't Covenant but they knew it could possibly be their final march...
