Exit Polling Covenant Aliens
Just a few minutes ago, during Jon Stewart's LIVE Daily Show covering the USA Election Day shenanigans, when Jon turned to Rob Cordry to discuss some large projection screen graphics, Rob was actually playing HALO. And not as some anonymous 'console shoot-em-up game' but as the ACTUAL game of Halo. Jon surprises Rob and asks him in shock if he's playing HALO. Rob sez he's just exit polling... covenant aliens! What did Rob say to the screen before realizing he was caught? "Yah, suck it! Suck it! Where's your alien plasma rifle now, bitch!"

Truly, the folks at the Daily Show, know their Halo! (Ding 03:40:12 UTC)

A Plasma Pistol in the Grass
7he One has finally taken pictures of his handmade plasma pistol. Looks like it would work nicely for real-life melee attacks... (Louis Wu 18:06:30 UTC)

Need a gun?
New item in the Joyride arsenal - the Armory Series 1 Weapon Battle Pack. Rocket launcher, shotgun, sniper rifle, MD6 pistol, plasma pistol, and needler are all included - the pack retails for $9.95. If you're ordering, you might want to drop in your requests for the first round of Halo 2 figures; they start shipping in about 3 weeks. (Louis Wu 19:50:06 UTC)

Now THAT'S some funky motion.
Captain Spark gave the Engineer model buried in Silent Cartographer some Elite AI and a plasma rifle (using Halo PC modding tools), and made a short movie. It's hard to make a longer one, because the game tends to crash when you do this... but this one's pretty cool. The links in his forum post are nearly certainly dead now (or will be soon) - so use the links in THIS post. Movie is available in both WMP9 and QuickTime format, under a meg each case. The Essence of Sack
Yesterday, we released a short vid showing Mike Miller clearing the Belly of the Beast fight on Truth and Reconciliation without firing a shot - on Legendary. You might remember 'Legend', Mike's last video, showing some pretty slick Legendary gameplay. Well... he's followed it up with a sequel. Legend 2 is 7:36 long, 28.6 mb big, in QuickTime format... and contains some of the most balls-to-the-wall gameplay I've seen. When I clear out the Maw elevator, i do so from the safety of the corridor, so I can run away when the Spec-Ops Elites and Grunts don't all die in the first volley. Mike actually wipes out the lot from INSIDE the elevator. His 'hog handling is gorgeous (though he dumps a lot of 'em off edges...), the sniping is spot-on. And, as usual, the plasma grenade planting is beautiful. Half the video is devoted to outtakes, showing you he's human (some are hilarious)... and the final tidbit has to be seen to be believed. Absolutely worth the download. It's at Mythica.org and files.bungie.org for now; as always, we're happy to post mirror links. (Louis Wu 10:49:54 UTC)

Works better plugged in.
Several folks have pointed out the 'plasma grenade' reference in today's Foxtrot comic; it's pretty oblique, as Halo references go, but hey... Foxtrot is funny. (Louis Wu 19:36:24 UTC)

Halo 2 morsels at TXB
Art Vandelay found a nice thread over at the TeamXbox forums (though it would have been better if he'd actually added a link to the original information) - AcidSnow spent some of his precious playtime in a recent Halo 2 event TESTING the game, rather than just playing. Biggest tidbit: laying a plasma grenade on top of another one actually increases the blast damage (rather than having the second one thrown off when the first one goes, as happens in Halo). Interesting stuff! Go read. Update: More hands-on comments on our own forum, from Tempus Fugit. Remember, when you read his (and others') comments about 'roughness', that everyone's playing the E3 build - a build finalized over 3 months ago. And remember that the Bungie boys and girls have been working 100+ hour weeks for a while now. (Louis Wu 00:47:13 UTC)

And all with one figure. Wow.
Plasmanator continues the Action Figure Megabattle series started yesterday by Mintz08 - there was a funny one last night, and a pretty dang impressive one today. Check 'em out! (Louis Wu 18:30:44 UTC)

A whole new kind of megabattle
Mintz08 decided to try the Megabattle technique (fixed camera, multiple composited shots) with Halo action figures, rather than ingame - interesting results. Plasmanator tossed in his own offering. A new creative option? (Louis Wu 11:05:48 UTC)

More shakeycam gameplay
Fuzion found a new gameplay clip over at Kikizo.com, flimed on the sly at E3. It's only 27 seconds long, but you get a decent view of some weapons that haven't gotten a lot of show so far. Clarification: seems my wording might suggest there are new, never-before-seen weapons in this footage; that's not the case. It's just that there are short clips showing the plasma rifle and shotgun clearly in first-person mode, something that other clips haven't shown much of. Sorry to get your hopes up. The man is out of control.
Spideroptics might have said it best - "It's Bungie vs. BOLL. Who will win? Stay tuned." BOLL's latest shot over the bow is a custom 3d screenshot... and all I can say is WOW. (Hit left or right arrow, and watch the large plasma bolt's leading edge crackle.) Because BOLL's ISP sharply throttles traffic outside Scandinavian countries, you might want to look at our local mirror of this file (6.1 mb, Flash format), rather than the links in BOLL's forum post. CheatCodes looks at Halo 2

More post-fanfest pics
Andrew, from XboxOttawa, has put up some pics he took at Dean Miranda's Plasma Fiesta lanfest after E3 - he managed to miss all the food, but he got the people. Yes, Silverbrin likes playing Halo standing up. Don't ask me why. (Louis Wu 01:01:30 UTC)

Legend
So I'm lookin' through the uploads folder, and there's this huge movie, and the name rings a bell. Someone named Mike just sent an email about it. Half the guys I know are named Mike... could be anyone. So I grab it and I start watching it, right? And it's a little slow... another black-and-white legendary thing... I'm thinkin' I've seen too many of these... oh, good, there's some color. Okay, so he's playing through pieces of the game, big deal, why am I was—hey, he's pretty good with that plasma pistol! So my son wanders into the room, and we watch him take down a few elites with nice snipershots. And then there's this balls-to-the-wall jump-out-of-the-banshee attack on a Wraith. Cool. Something's tingling, though - I've seen this style before. About the time we watch The Best Gold Elite Kill Ever, I'm scrabbling back through my email, trying to place this guy. Hmm... random AOL address, nothing's jumping to mind. The Steel Trap is definitely rusted. A quick search... Mike Miller sent in two of the best vids we've seen (In Too Deep and Winning Isn't Everything), and now he's taken the hat trick with Legend. 30 mb, QuickTime format, 8:32 long. There's a copy at Mythica, too, just because I haven't stressed Brian enough recently. You gotta watch this, just for the outtakes at the end. And that elite kill. (And the pair following it.) And Mike - I'm really sorry I didn't recognize the address. Though I must say, having the movie unfold like that was worth not knowing. Update: We've got 4 mirrors to tell you about for this film - Coerce.net has mirrored it, as has clarksbrother, in three places (here, here, and here). If our main sites begin to lag, grab a mirror! (Thanks, guys!) (Louis Wu 00:19:50 UTC)

New pics from the Homefront team
Homefront, the Battlefield 1942 mod, has put up new pics of an elite, their new AR (the MC looks BIZARRE without gloves on), and the scorpion tank. This picture is a joke - they'll have him holding plasma weapons soon. (Good thing, too - Covenant would rather die than use human weapons...) Thanks to Spartan-39 for the heads-up on our forum. The Homefront team adds a great artist
Wow. Chris Bryan (search for his name in our news, you'll find some pretty cool stuff) has joined the Homefront team (the group bringing Halo to Battlefield 1942) - and his first job is a piece of work! Check out the renders of his newly skinned Warthog in their latest news post. He's looking to start work on the Phantom next. (While you're there, check out the new Plasma Rifle, Patrol Boat, and Blood Gulch Base models, too.) (Louis Wu 13:42:58 UTC)

Battle Damaged Sniper
Gamestop got an exclusive Battle-Damaged Master Chief action figure - he looked like the regular MC, but his armor was scratched up, and he came with a plasma rifle instead of a sniper rifle. (He still got a pistol and his trusty AR.) WizardUniverse hs now unveiled a new Exclusive - the Battle Damaged Sniper, due to ship June 30. He'll run you $25, with shipping, if you're interested - there are only 5000 to be made, and pre-orders are accepted now. Thanks to Dark Bastion for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 20:59:01 UTC)

Cold plasma still sticks
CYBRFRK wrote up a different kind of reminiscence about the recent Offensive Tetraboxing lanfest that took place here a couple of weeks ago. New (gigantic) pictures... but the meat is in the text. Take a look - this is what HBO is all about. (Louis Wu 04:06:37 UTC)

Halo Flash Game makes progress
Hey - we stopped mentioning the incremental updates on the Halo Flash game under development over at 343GS.com some time ago... but the new features in it now merit another look. A Silent Cartographer-like intro, new sounds, plasma grenades... it's getting there! (Check the Projects page.) (Louis Wu 11:49:53 UTC)

Pictures needed
SESpider wrote to ask for input for his Miniature Halo series. This time, though, he needs pictures. In his words:

I need fans, that can, to get images of the inside of a Covenant Cruiser's Hallways and Cells (and maybe bridge Room).
The Halls:
The Halls can be Empty or with Covenant In them. There can be NO weapon fire, simply because it'll take too long to edit out. The views can be from above the ceiling or from a walking position. NO Humans whatsoever! But I can edit out Master Chief's gun if need be.
The Cell Room:
These have to be somewhat well-lit (but normal like) with Covenant walking about. The views can also be from any angle you choose as long as the Covenant inside are not always in the same spot (unless sleeping).
The Cell:
I need a few good low shots from inside the cells (with or without plasma doors). These shots have to have the cell itself empty and looking out toward the Plasma Door or/and ceiling.
I would get these images myself, but I don't have any decent program to make them large, clean and clear enough for use.
Send to:
Send all images to SEspider2@yahoo.com in Jpeg or Gif Form ONLY. And provide the name you want used when given credit. Once again, Thank you all for the help and ideas you've provided.

Well... you heard the man! Send him some pics! (Louis Wu 13:42:34 UTC)

Halo 2 Mod updated
Obsidian CZ writes to point out a new build of a Halo 2 mod that's been under development for a while by NiTrOuSoXiDe; it brings a gravity gun, a covenant sniper, SMG, faster warthog, and a powerful plasma cannon (turret) to the game. You can grab a copy from this thread in the Gearbox forums. (The listed server is no longer running this mod, but the mod still works.) (Louis Wu 11:17:13 UTC)
