iGod... Holy Halo
Wow. Now THIS is something... I haven't seen before. A collection of south Texas religious groups (they might all be the same entity; I can't tell - but we've got Fuzion Church, Crossroads Baptist Church, and Chi-Ro Ministries) has put together a series of Halo-based machinima to promote a Christian weekend retreat - and to promote Christian principles in general. Movies are in QuickTime format, and available in a couple of different resolutions each. Definitely points for innovative use of modern technology to get across an age-old message... thanks to HaloPlanet for pointing this out. (Louis Wu 13:15:39 UTC)

Halo CE Chronicles gets a new home
The Halo CE Chronicles, a machinima series attempting to show a more human side of a Spartan, has gotten popular enough that it's moved to its own site (up till now, it's been hosted on halomaps.org). The videos are now available not only in their original Flash movie format, but also in WMP9 and QuickTime. Thanks to Dennis Powers, who let our forum know. (Louis Wu 13:50:08 UTC)

From Greatness Comes Greatness
Motherstooth has started a new machinima series... it's called Miranda, and it focuses on your favorite female Halo 2 UNSC Captain. Episode One introduces her in a way you've never seen... she really IS pretty tough. Check it out! WMP9 format, 9.6 mb, hosted by That Weasel Television. Update: There's a QuickTime version up now, as well (9.4 mb). (Louis Wu 13:42:11 UTC)

Legendary
blackouTT and others from clan Tricking IT have begun work on Legendary, a new machinima - 4 Spartans against the universe. Halomachinima.com is hosting a WMP9 and a DivX version of the trailer (a bit over 20 mb, for either version) - production quality is somewhat inconsistent, but hopefully that will be cleared up before they're done. They're shooting for a mid-April release. (Louis Wu 11:42:30 UTC)

Retaliation
sh33p posted a trailer for an upcoming machinima project he and some others are working on, called 'Retaliation'. It's available in both WMP9 format (37 mb) or QuickTime format (30 mb). Nice piece - makes you want the full version to be out. Give it a look! (Louis Wu 23:13:55 UTC)

Look - Flamingos. And Penguins!
Wow. Fire Team Charlie has posted Episode 18 for members - currently DivX-only (74.5 mb), but QuickTime coming soon. With all the machinima coming out these days, and no updates since mid-January, you might have forgotten about these guys... that would be a mistake. A great blend of Halo footage and humor, with just the right amount of mod effects. This one was all Benny - and it rocks. (Should be up for the masses by Wednesday.) (Louis Wu 16:04:33 UTC)

How much is too much?
prometheus added a new article on Halo Machinima to his Halo-themed blog, Tru7h and Rationalization. Is the field growing too crowded? Sound off! (He's also posted a link on our forum, so you can chime in there, as well.) (Louis Wu 14:27:20 UTC)

Delta Squad Ep 2 - again
Yesterday's release of Delta Squad Episode 2 managed to bring down the server for Chronic V1RU5 - they hope to be up and running later this week. In the meantime, there's a mirror of the video at halomachinima.com, and we've put up our own mirrors - two for the original WMP9 (mythica.org | bungie.org) and two for a QuickTime version (bungie.org | mythica.org). It's a fun film - we hate to see sites go under. Update: Apparently, the Chronic V1RU5 team jumped the gun with the halomachinima.com mirror; it's up now, however. You need to right-click and Save As if you use this link. (Louis Wu 13:55:47 UTC)

Stryke Force 4: Operation Ninja
More good machinima for you today - Stryke Force Episode 4 has been released. If you haven't seen this series, grab the earlier episodes first. (If you live in Great Britain, think about picking up Xbox World magazine - the cover discs will be including hi-res (DVD-quality) versions for the forseeable future; Episode 1 is on the April disc.) Ep 4 is called 'Operation Ninja, and has Murphy and Feenix rushing in to rescue Camz... but running into a bit of trouble on the way. We've provided mirrors for this film that haven't made it onto their Videos page yet - we're offering both the WMP9 (25.4 mb, mythica.org | bungie.org) and a QuickTime version (22 mb, bungie.org | mythica.org). Grab your favorite flavor! Update: Their video page is updated. Visit for all mirrors. (Louis Wu 19:45:43 UTC)

117 - from RAWR
Not too long ago, we got email from Tim Leyk (brother to one of our favorite artists) about a movie a friend of his, Fireb0rn, of RAWR Productions, had put together. It's the story of a lone Spartan defending Zanzibar against impossible odds; camerawork is great, the musical choice fits perfectly, and the story (though short) will hook you. Everything machinima should be doing. The vid is called 117, and is available in several flavors:

Hi-res, QuickTime (640x480, 31.2 mb): bungie.org | mythica.org
Hi-res, WMP9 (640x480, 31.7 mb): mythica.org | bungie.org
Lo-res, QuickTime (320x240, 11.9 mb):bungie.org | mythica.org
Lo-res, WMP9 (320x240, 13.2 mb): mythica.org | bungie.org
Whew! Enjoy. (Louis Wu 16:29:45 UTC)

Ambush
Episode 6 of The Codex Series was posted last night - and wow, has the action heated up. This one has an original score and some great shot compositing. Overall, a fantastic battle sequence - two, actually. The Covenant shoot about as well as Imperial Stormtroopers... but that model worked really well for Lucas, so I say go for it! This series is shaping up to be one of the new stars in the Halo machinima firmament. Looking forward to Episode 7! (They've also got desktops available for download.) (Louis Wu 14:02:53 UTC)

The Philips Phile - Halo Style!
This is one of the oddest things I've seen - but it's pretty fun. There's a talk radio program in the Orlando, FL market called The Philips Phile - they've got a couple of real Halo fans on staff. (In the past, they've sponsored mini tournaments - Motherstooth made this cool trophy for one.) Now, if you visit their homepage, and look for a picture of a Master Chief with an energy sword, you can follow the link to 'Philips Phile - Halo Style'... a series of videos (made by Motherstooth, hosted by That Weasel) starring the characters of the show in Halo machinima. (For the record, all hosting and moviemaking is done by fans - the radio program is not making any money off of this.) It's probably of most interest to those who know (or at least can hear) the show... but for me, it shows the lengths to which fans will go to show their love. Check it out! (Louis Wu 11:46:48 UTC)

Remembering the Future
Dennis Powers continues his introspective machinima series 'The Halo CE Chronicles' with Episode 7, 'Remembering the Future'. The Spartan comes to grips with the loss of a friend, and his AI companion attempts to understand the human concept of grief. Pretty scenery, and a thoughtful (though action-free) episode. Proof that Halo machinima doesn't have to be all about blowing stuff up. Flash format, 6:10 long, 6.6 mb. (Louis Wu 18:19:58 UTC)

The Dauntless Spartans
Not long ago, we received a widescreen trailer for an upcoming machinima series, the Dauntless Spartans. I liked the footage a lot - though the voice acting needs a LOT of work; hopefully, this can be addressed before the first episode is actually released. We're hosting both the original WMP9 trailer (8.5 mb) and a re-encoded QuickTime version (10.5 mb) - it's not huge, so give it a shot! (Thanks to logan for sending this in.) BOTD2: Biohazard
Not long ago, ipushmycar announced the release of BOTD2: Biohazard, a followup video to Beach of the Dead. (The trailer was released in mid-January, to rave reviews and heavy anticipation.) Beach of the Dead 2 does a fantastic job of telling a classic zombie tale with no dialogue at all (beyond the narrator's voiceover at the start). This is really well-made machinima; great camerawork, great 'acting' - it hooks you early and holds you right through the end. The initial release was WMP9-only, and came in two flavors; a high-res 640x288 version that weighed in at a whopping 84.7 mb, and a low-res 320x144 version that was still a hefty 40.3 mb. In addition, both of these suffered from pretty heavy interlacing issues. ipushmycar went to the extra effort of reencoding to fix the interlace problem, and sent us a version we could turn into nice QuickTime releases; again, there's a high-res (640x288, 45.5 mb) version (mythica.org | bungie.org) and a lowres (320x144, 24.3 mb) version (mythica.org | bungie.org). If you still need the original WMP9 versions, the links for both flavors are in ipushmycar's forum thread. Watch this one! Update: (30 July 2006) A recent forum thread reminded me that TrickingIt.com no longer exists - which means the WMP9 versions of this film are no longer linked anywhere. Here are some local copies (hires, 640x290, 42.4 mb | lowres, 320x144, 26.4 mb). (Louis Wu 16:41:07 UTC)

The Codex Series Episode 2
The Codex, a machinima series started a few weeks ago, released episode 2 last night. Currently available as QuickTime only (but with DivX and WMP9 coming soon), this episode continues the storyline of a Covenant invasion of Earth, aimed at recovering an ancient Forerunner artifact. As with previous releases from this team, this vid shows off great camera work, solid voice acting, and a plot that's not just there to validate the filmmaking. Grab a copy! (Nerrolken started a thread on our forum, and HALOChat has already chimed in with mirrors; both at HALOChat and at Filefront. (Louis Wu 16:07:41 UTC)

Two movie groups find a home
That Weasel writes to let the Halo world know about a couple of new Halo machinima projects that now live as subsites on the That Weasel Television website. Team Destruction can be found there (their trailer vid was mentioned a couple of weeks ago, but now it has a proper home, and multiple formats), as can Masters of Devastation. (The latter group doesn't seem to be doing machinima so much as Halo PC tricking.) See what you can find! (Louis Wu 22:50:08 UTC)

I Am What I Am
Dennis Powers writes to point out that Episode 4 of the Halo CE Chronicles is now online at Halo Maps. Conceived as a showcase for Custom Edition works, this flash-based series is pretty different from most Halo-based machinima... it's a lot less violent, for example. This episode continues the development of the Spartan and AI characters. (Louis Wu 15:25:45 UTC)

Delta Squad Episode 1
KingFarnox and the rest of Chronic V1RU5 Studios have created the first episode of a new machinima series, Delta Squad. Episode 1 is called 'Zanzibar: Hostage Rescue'. Camera work is very nice; has the feel of wartime journalism, at least at the start. Nice timing, nice moves. Originally a 23.7 mb WMP9, I created a 22.1 mb QuickTime as well. (The WMP9 is higher-quality; if you can view it, do so.) Both are 640x480, 4:18 long. Almost a week ago, Farnox posted a low-res QT version on our forum - this one is high-res, and far more polished. We're providing two mirrors each for the WMP9 (mythica.org | bungie.org) and QuickTime (mythica.org | bungie.org). Give it a look-see! (Louis Wu 22:17:17 UTC)

The Codex - Episode 1
The Codex, a new machinima series that released a trailer about a week ago, has made good on its promise to release Episode One on February 9th. Go visit for the new episode (QuickTime now, WMP9 and DivX coming very soon), as well as lots of new updated content. We'll be posting mirrors if they decide they need them; this one's quite nicely done. (Louis Wu 01:41:37 UTC)

Finders Keepers
Stryke Force, an up-and-coming machinima series, has just released episode 3, 'Finders Keepers'. If you haven't seen these yet, go watch episodes one and two first - this series is among the best out there, in terms of production quality and voice acting. Episode 3 continues the hunt for Venom - you'd be amazed at how big Blood Gulch really is. The download is currently WMP9-only, but I've already shot them a QuickTime version, so hold tight. Visit their forum for the latest download! (The WMP9 is 26.1 mb, just under 6 minutes long.) Update: The QuickTime link is now up, in the same forum post that contains the WMP9. If you want this right now, you need to register for their forums (free). If you don't want to register, the movies should be available via direct download soon. (Louis Wu 11:43:11 UTC)
