Showing results 776 - 800 of 952 matches May 19, 2006 Link to this post Soldiers of War, Ep 7 - and More QuickTactical and crew has been creating the machinima series Soldiers of War for some time - Season 2 just kicked off, and Episode 7 (the first of the new season) passed the MPRRS. Things are looking grim for the Americans... It seems silly to me that we host 2, 5, and 7, but not the rest - so I've put all 7 episodes up for download, in both QuickTime and WMP9 formats. You can get descriptions of the videos, as always, at the Epic Films website; we're just providing a one-stop download shop. (A couple of the QT versions are not quite done yet - but you can check back in the next couple of hours for them.) Enjoy! (Louis Wu 13:45:02 UTC)
May 8, 2006 Link to this post Alonewinder EchoZuluFilms has released Alonewinder, a HaloCE map designed primarily for the machinimas ALONE and Major Tom Diaries. It's a 13 mb download. (Sounds like it's sidewinder with new vehicles and weapons.) One of the new weapons is the Boomstick; it started life as a simple shotgun mod, but now is a totally separate weapon. Thanks, PsiMatrix. May 3, 2006 Link to this post A home for machinima creators Edgeworks Entertainment (the folks behind the Codex Series and the upcoming 'The Heretic', among others) are now offering hosting and support for a select group of machinima creators; swing by their FAQ page for details on what's being offered, and what you need to do to qualify. (Louis Wu 13:50:59 UTC)
April 28, 2006 Link to this post Halo channel at Machinima.com We got email from Michael Yates, over at Machinima.com - he wanted to point out a fully-devoted Halo channel with over 150 machinimas. They also have great tutorials and plenty of pros to answer questions, if you're looking for help in making your own. Check 'em out! (Louis Wu 16:01:30 UTC)
April 24, 2006 Link to this post Gameplay May Change Trailer You might remember 'Gameplay May Change During Online Play', a vid released about a month ago, to great reviews; the creators have decided to send it around to the machinima sites, and wanted a trailer to break the ice. The MPRRS liked the trailer enough to pass it - so we're hosting it. 18 mb in WMP9 format, 17.5 mb in QuickTime format. Whee! (Louis Wu 07:02:39 UTC)
April 24, 2006 Link to this post Fadeout Mothergoat wrote a new song for the next episode of Sponsors vs Freeloaders... but that series was in limbo for a while, and although things are looking up again, it almost certainly won't be out before June. So MG got the go-ahead to release the song now. It's Halo-related mostly in the sense that it was created for a Halo machinima series; it's original work, doesn't seem to be based on Halo themes. That said, though - it's pretty solid stuff - go listen! It's pretty short (under a minute and a half) and pretty small (under 2 mb) - but there's a lot of energy packed in there! (Louis Wu 06:52:32 UTC)
April 16, 2006 Link to this post A Different Kind of Machinima Funky. Bloody Grunt and Black Sky Productions are putting together 'Endurance Halo' - fourteen players will face off in smaller and smaller teams, until only one from each team remains; finally, until only one remains. The entire thing will be filmed, and cut into an 'unscripted combat gameshow'. It won't be happening until this summer, but if you're interested, sign up now (check the links on the site). Thanks, HavokBlue. (Louis Wu 04:46:52 UTC)
April 4, 2006 Link to this post Major Tom Diaries - Primer So there's a group called Echo Zulu Films that has created a couple of machinima series - Alone, and the Major Tom Diaries - and they've recently released a Major Tom Diaries Primer episode, to bring new watchers up to speed on where the series is. If you'd like to check out the Major Tom Diaries, but don't have time to watch the existing vids (there are 5 of them), you can grab this video at HaloMovies.org, in either WMP9 or QuickTime formats. It weighs in at about 25 mb, depending on version. Thanks, Dennis. (Louis Wu 15:50:21 UTC)
April 4, 2006 Link to this post Tablesaw Anatomy Episode 1 Fwankman88 and friends at Force Lightning Studios created 'Tablesaw Anatomy Episode 1 - it's the start of a new machinima series. Two Ex-Marine bounty hunters stumble on a secret lab during a "sting". Questions are left as they try and figure out what they really saw. Production values are quite high; great effects, great sound quality. This is one to follow. The MPRRS liked it, too, which is why we're offering you downloads in either WMP9 or QuickTime formats (22.3 mb, 8:23). Go grab it! (Louis Wu 01:48:45 UTC)
March 30, 2006 Link to this post Zany troupe, indeed. Heh - the Rooster Teeth crew will be doing a film and Q&A session at the upcoming San Francisco Film Festival, in April and May. The title of the film? 'Cock Byte: Masters of Machinima' - you should definitely get tickets if you're in the area. (They go on sale to the general public next week, April 4.) Thanks, Cornballer. (Louis Wu 18:12:10 UTC)
March 19, 2006 Link to this post Clone Tutorial for Halo Machinima Makers Jamie98s used a pretty cool technique in his recent 'Mombasa Massacre' film; he had battle scenes with many more than 16 fighters onscreen. He's not the first to do this (ipushmycar did it in Biohazard, about a year ago, and I'm sure someone will remind me of other examples), but he's the first to write up a tutorial to help others use the technique in their own films. Swing by our Miscellaneous section to read about it in detail! (Louis Wu 19:14:55 UTC)
March 18, 2006 Link to this post Fragging Rights And in case you're not movied-out, you can swing by Halo2Forum, and grab a copy of shook on3's montage. Really, REALLY heavy on the effects... but the sniping's quite good, and there are a couple of very cool clips which use great machinima techniques in a pretty unique way, as far as montages go. 103 mb, WMP9 format. (5:33 long.) First heads-up came from shoeler, but I don't generally post H2F links unless they come from Z (which this one did, eventually). Update: There's a QuickTime version here (61.3 mb) for anyone who needs it. (Louis Wu 02:47:44 UTC)
March 18, 2006 Link to this post River Styx Elnea (who's known around here for her artwork, and around Red vs Blue for her funny journals) and OboeCrazy (who's not known around here at all, but is pretty visible at RvB) put together a trailer for an upcoming machinima that does what hasn't been done yet, that I know of - it incorporates footage from Halo, the Sims, and World of Warcraft (and in fact integrates them, so a Sims character is talking to a Pelican pilot who's flying over a WoW landscape, for example); this is pretty cool stuff. You can grab a copy in a whole bunch of different flavors: - MedRes - 540x360: QT (28.7 mb) | DivX (20.6 mb) | WMP9 (30.9 mb)
- LowRes - 360x240: QT (11.6 mb) | DivX (11.2 mb) | WMP9 (11.6 mb)
Actually, the large WMP9 is 720x480... but I was too lazy to cut it down. (The 540 versions actually look better, in my opinion.) Go grab one... and then let them know what you think of the idea! (Louis Wu 00:49:31 UTC)
February 27, 2006 Link to this post The Mombasa Massacre Jamie98s is turning out to be one of the top moviemakers in the Halo universe; I can't remember a film he's made that I didn't like. His latest work, The Mombasa Massacre, blew through the MPRRS without a scratch. It's a slightly different take on his last piece, Chaos on the Creek; this one also tells the story of two factions that lived in peace until violence broke out... but this time, it's a third faction causing the trouble. Cinematography rocks, and the huge battlescenes are REALLY well-done. This one's a watcher. It's big - 12:30 long, almost 100 mb to download... but worth it. Grab 'The Mombasa Massacre' in WMP9 format or QuickTime format. If you make machinima, study it. (Louis Wu 23:11:06 UTC)
February 23, 2006 Link to this post Team Conquest's Outbreak Trailer Okay... this is pretty odd. About a month ago, mike0619 of Team Conquest submitted a vid to the MPRRS called 'Outbreak'. It received high marks from every reviewer... except one. That one accused the team of plagiarism, and rated the film so low that it failed, even though everyone else passed it. It would have died there... except about a week ago, mike contacted me to ask about what had happened... and I reviewed the film. There was no plagiarism whatsoever, and in fact it's a pretty nice trailer (typos in the text aside). Be aware that this vid has no relation at all to the Outbreak trailer released last week by 3x8 Productionz. It's a separate machinima, produced by a different group, though it, too, involves mods. Definitely worth a look! We've got an WMP9 version (17.2 mb) or a QuickTime version (20.8 mb) - grab the one that suits you. And to the entire team... we're sorry for the confusion! (Louis Wu 03:06:37 UTC)
February 21, 2006 Link to this post Stupid Halo Tricks, indeed. Heh - you need an account at Red vs Blue to read this... but it's worth it. Burnie wrote up a journal entry showing off one of the tricks they've figured out recently; it turns off dynamic shadows in Halo 2 multiplayer - or adds them, selectively, to characters not affected. He's offered a reward (unspecified) for anyone who figures out how they did it. (I warn you now; there are over 300 comments in the thread, and most of them will numb your brain; figuring out what's already been suggested is non-trivial.) The pictures are really cool (there are more spread throughout the comments section, as Burnie has added new examples), and there's a short video showing the effect in the green room on Lockout. (Be aware that you are not seeing an unbroken stream of action there; the video was edited to show before and after, but the 'during' is gone.) Cool stuff! Update: Burnie created a new journal entry to explain the solution; basically, the 'camera' looks at the target in the desired lighting, and then the target moves to the new location (with different lighting) without the 'camera' watching. Once there, he stops moving - and when the camera gets there, he sees the target in the original lighting. There's a movie showing this at work if this is too confusing. Pretty cool glitch, and really useful in some machinima situations! (Louis Wu 14:22:19 UTC)
February 10, 2006 Link to this post Coming Soon... The Heretic On the anniversary of their first episode, the Codex Series team has released information about The Heretic, a new series in production. Cause for excitement from folks who like good machinima! Thanks to many for noticing - but squattingb was first ( even beating Nerrolken's own email by a couple of hours). Go read about it! (Louis Wu 14:31:18 UTC)
February 5, 2006 Link to this post Alone... Major Tom Diaries... Something. Laird points out that a Halo machinima which sort of disappeared for a while is back; swing by Echo Zulu Films for the first part of the Three Long Minutes trilogy. Filmed with HaloCE, this is a nice teaser for the series. 16.1 mb, WMP9 format. (Louis Wu 20:43:57 UTC)
February 3, 2006 Link to this post Legendary II - redux Yesterday, we posted the second episode of blackouTT's Legendary machinima series - but he was pretty unhappy with a few things. (Audio sync was off, for one... and at least one transition was missed.) He sent us a new copy of the film, which we've uploaded - the links in yesterday's news post will bring you to that copy from this point on. If you watched it and didn't notice the stuff that bugged him... don't worry about it. If you haven't watched it yet, or were unhappy with the sync issues - grab a new copy. (Louis Wu 19:25:48 UTC)
February 2, 2006 Link to this post Legendary Episode II: Prelude to Eternity A couple of weeks back, blackouTT made some noise with Legendary, the first episode in a machinima series he's working on. Episode 2 was submitted to the MPRRS this afternoon - and it passed with flying colors in three hours. Wow! As usual, great camera angles. The story is fleshing out. This one's big - over 8 minutes long, 83 mb large. Grab it in WMP9 format, or QuickTime format - your call. (Louis Wu 06:08:35 UTC)
January 29, 2006 Link to this post Heroes and Heretics Trailer A new movie passed the MPRRS yesterday - and while it's just a trailer to whet your appetite for the upcoming season... it looks great. (One of the reasons it looks great is that it SOUNDS great -the voice acting is top-notch. For all the machinima creators who say "well, ours is good enough" or "whatever"... you really need to understand that the difference between good machinima and great machinima is often the quality of the voice acting.) Grab a copy of the Heroes & Heretics trailer in WMP9 format (21.5 mb) or QuickTime format (21.6 mb) from our servers... and bug the creators (Slacker Entertainment) for more eps! (Louis Wu 17:19:58 UTC)
January 24, 2006 Link to this post Frequency imSuck, of HaloGrid.com, put together a new machinima piece called 'Frequency' - the Covenant tries out a new weapon. Film quality is REALLY high, cinematography is quite good. This thing breezed through the MPRRS in just a few hours. Swing by HaloGrid to download it - we're providing a couple of links there (WMP9 and QuickTime), and PraetoriaGuard is providing a WMP9 link. Fun stuff! (Louis Wu 21:59:42 UTC)
January 23, 2006 Link to this post It was a dark and stormy night... Cool beans. Dojorkan modded Outskirts to get a feel for how New Mombassa might look at dusk, with fog rolling in... the potential for machinima is staggering. Check out the pics, read the thread. Toss in your own two cents. (Louis Wu 02:36:08 UTC)
January 18, 2006 Link to this post Machinima - the local angle There's a sizeable article (5000 words) on the Codex crew (The Codex is a pretty well-known, and well-done, Halo machinima project) - a nice read. A bit disappointing that they've all moved on from Halo, though... (Louis Wu 23:29:39 UTC)
January 16, 2006 Link to this post Broken Console needs your voice Broken Console folks are looking for voice actors - swing by their website for details if you're interested in participating in The Squadron or other upcoming machinima projects! (Louis Wu 21:05:43 UTC)
