Helix Canyon
FireDragon04 points out a new map for Halo Custom Edition entitled Helix Canyon. You can find a discussion thread (with screens) on the Gearbox forums, and another on the Halomods forum. Give it a look - and a download! (Louis Wu 21:39:15 UTC)

Hot Stuff in the HaloCE World
TheGhost has moved his pretty amazing collection of links to HaloCE tutorials to a permanent home at Halomaps.org, courtesy of Dennis Powers - swing by for links to every fan-created tutorial related to content creation for Halo: Custom Edition you can think of! There've been a number of significant updates to this project since we first mentioned it in November. (And while TheGhost had our ears, letting us know about this move, he pointed out a pretty amazing release by Tiamat; a map called Coldsnap, with jets, Longswords, and Pelicans in play, along with mechs, walking creatiures, and a number of original vehicles - plus C4 explosions, new weapons, and more. Go grab a copy!) (Louis Wu 03:28:27 UTC)

Misc Art Update, Part 2
I'm STILL not done... but there's another large batch of stuff in the Miscellaneous Art section today; I'm getting CLOSER to cleaning out the queue. There's some amazing stuff in this round; I hate to draw attention to specific pics (because I worry that folks will look ONLY at those), but don't miss Khan's Forerunner, or Sabarika's furry Chief. There's also a pretty cool background you can turn into a custom Halo clock, from Bry-guy12. And there are a couple of dozen OTHER pics - all of them are worth your time. Go look! (Louis Wu 19:38:00 UTC)

Halo PC Campaign Levels - now for HaloCE
Dennis Powers points out that you can now play all the Halo PC campaign levels in HaloCE; all you need to do is download one of the custom UI files that supports the 'Campaign' menu function (like this one, or this one, or this one), and then grab the Single Player levels off this page, and you're good to go! (He warns that the campaign level conversions have not undergone strict quality control, so while each one has been played through successfully, you should use at your own risk.) Ross Mills found a UNSC Marine armor set for sale on eBay(uk). It's not completely finished - but a bunch of it is. (I'm wondering what happened to the model's arm...) Four days left, nobody's bid yet. (Louis Wu 15:43:03 UTC)

Spreading The Love
This one's offtopic... except for the people involved. Great read, though. Over at CGSociety, there's a tutorial by Mike Hill - if the name doesn't sound familiar, search our news archives. The tutorial isn't Halo-related, it shows how he put together a specific piece (and there's a ton of interesting info in there, even for non-artists like me)... but in the short blurb at the end, he credits Craig Mullins as his main inspiration - not for this particular piece, but for his desire to be a concept artist in the first place! Coolness. Thanks to Veegie for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 22:49:04 UTC)

Last eBay update for a bit
The eBay'd Halo goodies continue to flow - Cassius let us know about this 3.5 foot statue and this partial statue, Flamechu found a 6-foot statue, Phil Shiel found another Muckle statue, and Steve Ray points out that he's selling an airbrushed Halo 2 Faceplate for an Xbox 360. I think we're gonna take a break from mentioning eBay auctions for a while - there's always SOMETHING Halo-related there, and I don't want this site to turn into HBeBayO or something. It's about The Dream Factory, a Lego custom kit builder - and one of the kits on display was designed by Bungie's Rob't McLees - it's a Warthog! Now we just need the Feb issue... Halo Custom Edition - Alive Again!
We got word from Dennis Powers that there's been a resurgence in HaloCE interest in the past month - more than 47 different maps have been released since October 1 (bringing the total available for download at Halo Maps to 568). Maps are getting more sophisticated since the release of the complete Halo tag set in October. Swing by and see what you can find! While you're there, you can check out the Halo CE Chronicles DVD - he's giving out the entire story (two seasons, 20 eps) to folks who've donated $10 or more to the website.
