Must Be Some Serious Party!
Today's Halo: Resolution continues the holiday theme... sort of. Gettin' funky... (Louis Wu 03:16:39 UTC)

I hate it when that happens.
Halo Babies is back up! Bandwidth restrictions have lifted a bit, so there's a strip today, and there'll be another on Friday. There's also a PayPal link, if you want to help out with their moving costs... The strip itself is Christmas-themed... and a harbinger of things to come. Ouch! (Louis Wu 22:13:53 UTC)

Yes, even YOU can enter.
Last year, Bungie.org ran the Pillar of Art contest, where we solicited traditional-media artwork from Bungie fanatics. With $500 in cash, plus oodles of schwag (and some pretty cool stuff straight from Bungie), we were assured of fierce competition. We brought out the best in people... but for some, the best wasn't good enough. Never let it be said that bungie.org neglects the little guy. Introducing... The Plinth Of Art - the contest for the rest of us. All you have to do is come up with an art-themed One One Se7en strip, and you could be a winner! Full details, including rules, prizes, and deadlines, can be found on the Plinth page. Remember - it's not how good you are, it's how many people you can claw your way over. Carol of the Marines
Ross Mills has whipped up a short Christmas-themed film for you; only 26 shopping days left! Timing's nice, though it would have been more impressive had there been no need to manipulate pitch... it's 1:21 long, and available in both WMP9 and QT formats (4.8 mb each, you choose). Don't hate him for the suffering he's caused... think of the artistic value. Update: DOH! I thought this was a remake of 'Carol of the BOBs', an older Marathon-based piece... it wasn't. It actually USED Carol of the BOBs as the soundtrack. My bad. (Sorry, Jester!) (Louis Wu 12:05:50 UTC)

Roasted Turkey
DOH! mrsmiley stepped in and created a Thanksgiving-themed Halo Babies when Gruntsbane had family obligations... we missed it because we took yesterday off. Take a look! (Louis Wu 12:41:26 UTC)

Halo-ize Panther.
Unsanity, a company devoted to tweaking the user interface of Mac OSX, has announced ShapeShifter, a product that will allow you to add 'themes' to your interface. One of the first themes released (in fact, installed with the program) is called Eylo (rhymes with Halo) - and a quick look at the theme shows why. Check it out! (Thanks, Mig.) Red vs... who Part 3
Yesterday's One One Se7en guest strip is followed up by ANOTHER one from Devilmingy, in the same theme; this time looking at the Sidewinder Saga (which has also folded). Such is life. (Louis Wu 16:03:55 UTC)

Halo Vice
Rico has submitted an introduction sequence for an upcoming video project entitled 'Halo Vice' - in his words:

Originally I just wanted to use the footage to better understand my new editing system, but after suggestions from several friends and input from members of the RHOH chapter at Bungie.net I have decided to create a series of "shows" that can be freely distributed openly on the internet and on DVD. The goal is to have a moody, action-highlighted drama along the same lines as the classic 80's television show Miami Vice (hence the theme music lifted off of composer Jan Hammer's "Escape From Television" album). I even managed to find a similar font for all the titling! All images were compiled on miniDV and edited in Final Cut Pro 4.0.2.

The video is 2:44 long, encoded in MPEG-4, and weighs in at 16 mb. You can contact Rico through his 7th Column chapter, Rico's House of Halo. (The movie was originally uploaded to FilePlanet - but was then redone. The current FP version is out of date - you should grab the files.bungie.org one linked above. When the FilePlanet version has been updated, we'll post news about it.) (Louis Wu 20:47:35 UTC)

Strings.
SilverBrin**** has submitted another impressive piece of Fan music; this one's called 'Mombasa', and it weighs in at a hefty 7.4 mb. (It's just over 4 minutes long.) Here's what SB has to say about it:

Ever since seeing the Halo 2 demo played at E3 and watching videos of it, I have been taken with the broad and epic tone of the orchestral music accompanying the fantastic New Mombasa level. It think it is one of Marty O'Donnell's biggest successes to date. Last week I decided I would like to totally remake the orchestral theme accompanying the video and accentuate my favorite themes and melodies and add some moments of my own. So I started from scratch and finished with this four-minute remake of the New Mombasa demo music and named it "Mombasa".
Mombasa.mp3 is actually part of a much much larger Bungie audio/fan-music based project that Jester and myself will be showcasing on Psyjnir. Jester will be talking more about this project "SitKoB" later. Enjoy this file and feel free to give us feedback!
Because I'm loathe to add email addresses any more to the front page (spam is evil), your best bet for feedback is our forum. (Louis Wu 08:51:25 UTC)

Too much time getting toasted by the Halo PC beta testers, not enough time updating this site. Hmm. Anyway, before hitting the sack, here's Wednesday's One One Se7en, from Stuntmutt - continuing in the Flash Pelican theme. I know where that lady is coming from... (Louis Wu 03:05:06 UTC)

New Themes, New People
4 new themes have been added to the 7th Column roster - you can make your Chapter over in one of three Halo-related themes (Shotguns is pretty cool), or (my favorite) a 7th Column theme known as Euphoria Station. SketchFactor also managed to slip in the information that there are two new members of the Bungie Online Team - Claire and Zoe (last names and handles were not included). Welcome aboard, from your dedicated fanbase! (Louis Wu 11:10:32 UTC)

It's coming... (cue Jaws theme)
Apologies for the short downtime this evening. No, the box isn't having troubles - it was actually up and running, just not serving this website. Why? because it was preparing for tomorrow's massive Halo goodness (that oh-so-luscious direct-feed footage we've all been waiting so long for). We've been helping Bungie do a little bit of mirror site setup. I figure half an hour of downtime tonight is easily compensated by what you're gonna have access to tomorrow... Now THAT'S some cool music.
Last year, Justin Durban turned in a pair of pretty nice pieces of music based on the halo theme (here and here). He's done it again - today we got a copy of Ruined Desert, a 5.4 mb mp3. Here's what Justin says about it:

This one gives it a small bit of an ethnic feel. I'm imagining a desert scene inside a HUGE sandlike temple. Almost if it was back in the day of Caesar and the Romans. Or even the ancient Egyptian times. Perhaps a gladiator type arena fight and preparation?

Of course, I have to thank Marty O'Donnell again for creating a kickass soundtrack and inspirational music.

Go grab a copy, and see what you think. I can see the dunes now... (Louis Wu 00:32:34 UTC)

Timing
Well, Mythica's back down to it's standard 5 Mbit/sec serving rate, so the Birds spike is over; time for the NEXT movie. This one's from Mister E, and it's called 'Timing'. The theme is exactly that - there are lots of 'kill and then die' sequences, with some very nice integration with the trance-like music. It's just under 2 minutes, and is available in both Windows Media Player 9 (18.1 mb, 640x480) and QuickTime (12.4 mb, 480x360) formats from Mythica, as well as mirrors at That Weasel Television (the QT version there is 10.1 mb, and of lower quality) and the Psyjnir Complex Hotline server (the QT version is the 12.4 mb version). The Seventh Column just got spiffier.
Three new themes are now available for your Bungie.net Seventh Column chapter, thanks to poena.dare - two are Pathways Into Darkness-related, but the third (First and Last) is a Halo theme (thus warranting a news post here). Check 'em out! Thanks to SketchFactor for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 02:07:29 UTC)

The Case of the Missing Screenshots
I'm fallin' out of my seat, laughin'. We got a note from ed, asking us if we knew anything about the new Halo 2 shots showing at Giga.de, a german TV affiliate of NBC-Europe. In ed's words,

Giga is a well-known show about all sorts of internet-themes, and I don't think they would lie, but I wonder if these pics are real, because they have no Bungie-logo on them, and they are still not shown at BungieÇs T&R-site.

To see the pics, follow this link, then hit the 'Shots'N'Pics' link underneath the action figure picture. Alternatively, here's the frame in question. When you're all done, follow this link, posted on our news last week, and if you want, you can even follow the internal links from there for the original source. When you're all done with that, sit back, laugh, and then send Roger Wilco some email, telling him just how cool his work really is. (ed, you were right to be suspicious... but if you ask me, those are good enough to be in the game anyway.) (Louis Wu 01:46:13 UTC)

Everybody's a comic
In an attempt to show up Lorraine R. McLees, Stosh has put up a Valentines-themed comic of his own. (Give it up, Stosh.) Don't forget the site itself... I think he's just bitter cause he got beat by a girl. (Two, if you count Lorraine.) Update: DOH! Wrong comic. (No wonder I had troubles with it...) Try this one. (I still give the round to Lorraine, though. This one's pretty funny... but the Halo Babies can't be beat.) (Louis Wu 00:44:58 UTC)
