Epic Kill-Steal
Magni Harvald noticed a pretty funny vid on YouTube - guy snipes a fusion core (through another target, actually), which slams an opponent into a wall, killing him with a splatter kill... milliseconds before he would have died from a melee attack in the back. Definitely an epic kill-steal! Update: Blackstar submitted a custom medal for this one - have you been Rico-stealed? (Louis Wu 14:46:00 UTC)

Working for Bungie - Remotely
CGSociety has a short profile on Dana Boadway, a freelance animator who did some cinematics work on Halo 3. I guess I'd always thought the in-game cinematics were scripted, in-engine...apparently not (or not entirely). Interesting stuff! (Louis Wu 14:12:25 UTC)

Input and Output
Some nice goodies over in Hawty McBloggy's little corner of the net - she found a fun site that shows you what might get lost in translation... and while her Halo 3 pickup lines might lose some of their efficacy, they absolutely gain some hilarity. She also found a truly gorgeous set of customized input devices - a keyboard and two controllers - painted with a Halo 3 theme. I'd buy those... in a heartbeart. (Louis Wu 16:06:55 UTC)

Darth Maul Spartan
Hawty McBloggy noticed a custom Halo 3/Star Wars action figure for sale on eBay - current bid is $14.99. (I mean, really, it's just a McFarlane figure with some horns glued on, and a felt cape, and some custom paint... but hey, how often are you gonna find one of these?) (Louis Wu 18:53:10 UTC)

Bungie Weekly Update
Last night was Friday night - so Bungie, as is their custom, wrote up a Weekly Update (which, of course, is also available in our Weekly Update Archive). It contains information about a couple of glitches related to the Legendary Map Pack release, some very vague news about what's going on in the Bungie headquarters, a recap of the MLG Meadowlands event from the standpoint of Bungie's Luke Smith, and a section on how not to get Recon armor. (If you want Recon armor, read this. More than once.) When you're done reading - go play some Halo! (Louis Wu 14:17:07 UTC)

A wearable Scout helmet
As mentioned earlier, we had another batch of fun content from GhettoMole - not only did he send us a link to a custom-built Jackal, but he's working on a wearable Scout helmet. Swing by this page for progress pictures! (Louis Wu 15:18:12 UTC)

Them's Some Expensive Halo Cars
Hawty McBloggy found what might be the most expensive Halo 3 Hot Wheels customs ever. $700 for a pair of vehicles, with a total of four hand-painted figures. I guess if you're really, really rich and having trouble figuring out what to do with all that cash... (Louis Wu 12:42:57 UTC)

Vidtacular
I'm out of town, so news might be slow for a couple of days - but it's amazing how many movies were announced today. I can't even watch most of them, so you're on your own in terms of quality (you might be able to get some idea from the respective forum posts):

  • Vash10 pointed out a video called 'Diamondback', showing highlights of an epic game of CTF on a Forged version of Avalanche. This one I watched - fantastic.
  • AoD Deadite announced the Dispatch Custom Game Night #2 video - games played last week.
  • Howlingwolf came by with news of a trailer for 82nd Airborne.
  • Phatcorns told us about a montage put together from a single Neutral Assault game on Standoff - lots of kills, no win. (Nice timing with the music, though.)
  • Z sent along a link to Im'ma Shine, a hard-to-classify montage-like video. (I haven't been able to watch this yet.)

That should be enough to keep you watching for a bit... (Louis Wu 04:28:14 UTC)

FedEx'd.
Yesterday, AfRo SaUcE stopped by our forum to highlight an interesting betrayal. He was playing through Floodgate... and he was teamkilled by the Arbiter. (Not his buddy PLAYING as the Arbiter - no, this was the NPC version.) He's got the clip up at Bungie.net - or you can watch the YouTubed version, with his commentary and ready-made replays. To top it all off, Blackstar has created another one of his 'Custom Halo 3 Medals' to commemorate this hilarious occurance (it's at the bottom of the list). Who knew the Arbiter could be so clumsy? Customized Nightmare Armor outfit on eBay
Hawty McBloggy ran across this Nightmare Armor outfit on eBay - a standard Spartan Armor setup originally made by Nightmare Armor... then modified with lots of LEDs, and other mods. (You can read the details in the description. In really, really big letters.) Buy It Now price is $7k - but they'll consider your best offer. (Louis Wu 11:09:09 UTC)

Starship Trooper - look familiar?
Merc noticed a page selling a custom-made sculpted figure from Starship Troopers (well, maybe not any more - the page dates back 7 years) - it looks a lot like a Halo marine with Hayabusa shoulders. Interesting! (If you're interested in ordering, you might want to contact the creator first on this page.) (Louis Wu 15:08:31 UTC)

Dell Living the Game ad - now with sound
Last week, we mentioned a Dell computer commercial that showcased Adam Grumbo's custom Master Chief armor (among other things) - but the link we provided had no sound. Adam posted a new version soon after - but we didn't hear about it until this morning, when Crisis Panda dropped us a line. Go watch with sound! (Louis Wu 16:23:21 UTC)

Halo Custom Edition Mod Contest
Wave of Lag stopped by to announce that h2vista.net is running a mod contest; as part of the High Res Halo project (bringing a total graphical overhaul to Halo 1, via Halo Custom Edition), they're building an enormous map originally designed by Mrs Doublefire (who went on to work for Bungie). It's got a lot of space - so they're looking for help filling it. Enter your 'detail object' models, and win both a place in the map, and possibly cash. (More details in the post.) Halo Custom Edition Update
Dennis Powers sent along some stats for the Halo Custom Edition of the Halo Maps website - 56 original multiplayer map designs, 68 modified levels, and 3 single player levels have been added since 2008 began, bringing the total number of assets to 3050. Wow! He also pointed out 4 maps of note - check out Contact, Vestige, Augurer, and Sympathy! (Louis Wu 21:47:52 UTC)

Custom Spartan (Unusual) on eBay
Hawty McBloggy found a rather intense modded action figure on eBay today; if I explain what makes it intense, I'll need to put a spoiler tag on this newspost, so I'd rather just tell you to jump over to her blog post. You've got a few days to think about this... current bid is at $40. (Louis Wu 19:01:23 UTC)

Wow, really?
Product-Reviews has an article about 'Halo 3' modded controllers - they've got duplicated buttons on the backside, where your fingers have a better chance of finding them, I guess. $70 gets you a controller with the A and B buttons underneath... $90 gets you one with all four buttons on the bottom. Me? I bet I'd end up pressing buttons I didn't want to press, on a regular basis. (Louis Wu 21:59:40 UTC)

You don't need feelings, use these instead!
Okay, I'm officially too frickin' busy for life. AGAIN, I forgot to post yesterday's Another Halo Comic Strip. You still have time to make use of it, though - ZZoMBiE13's made you some AHCS Valentines; you can cut them out and customize them before tomorrow, no problem! (Louis Wu 12:17:35 UTC)

This Transformer is Not a Natural Formation!
Heh - Hawty McBloggy noticed another Halo-related custom Transformer on eBay; this one changes from the Master Chief to a Warthog (sort of). I got a lot of flak the last time I posted a Transformer auction - folks were suggesting it was a total ripoff, all the guy had done was paint a transformer and add an MC head. That's as may be - if you think it's worthless, don't buy it, don't bid on it. The simple fact is, finding some of these figures at ALL is hard - and not everyone's got the time to custom-paint one. If you're the type of person who'd rather buy than make... check this out. (Louis Wu 18:38:36 UTC)
