New Music
Two new Halo songs (three songs altogether) have been uploaded to SexyJosh's website; one is called XBC Halo, the other is Josh's take on Nico's Red vs Blue theme. Go get 'em! (Louis Wu 10:22:17 UTC)

Tina Leyk, Halo Artiste Extraordinaire
A couple of days ago, we got an email from Tim Leyk, who wanted to point out a Halo fan comic created by his sister, Tina Leyk. I visited the site, and was blown away by what I found - she's a fantasy/furry artist, and Fur-lo (her Halo comic) incorporates furry art with Halo themes and not a little bit of humor. The work, quite simply, rocks. Browsing the site, I discovered an entire treasure-trove of Halo-related art, ON TOP of the comic strip - and Tina was kind enough to let us archive her work here so that Halo fans could enjoy it. So here you go: for your viewing pleasure, there's a subsection devoted to Fur-lo, Tina's Halo Furry Fan Comic... and another section devoted to her Halo Fan Art. Enjoy! (Louis Wu 02:52:55 UTC)

A Song to Kill By
Here's a Halo Fan Music submission unlike any other we've received... this song comes from Mothergoat, the composer of the Hail 117 Anthem, and while it's Halo-inspired, it's not as obviously based in Halo's themes; it's designed for fan music videos.

Seeing the Oddbrawl video made me realize the Hail 117 Anthem is more theatrical than it is good for constant firefights. So now I bring you "Repeater," a faster-moving overdrive fury with a good pinch of Halo. There's a lot of repetition on purpose. The tune was made as background music for use in fan videos.  Anyone can freely use it by just giving me credit in the video.

It's a 3 mb mp3, 3:20 long, and as Mothergoat says, would probably work very nicely as a backdrop to Halo carnage. You can grab our local copy. (Louis Wu 11:23:57 UTC)

Halo-Themed Music
SexyJosh, from Team Sexy Films, has been writing some Halo-themed music recently; there are currently two songs available on his website. Lament to Keyes is a 4-minute ballad, and Cortana is half as long, twice as fast, and a bit ruder. If you like the music, explore the site; there's quite a bit more, non-Halo-related, stuff. Check 'em out! (Louis Wu 18:01:12 UTC)

Hard-rockin' Fan Music
Mothergoat of Clan Boomstick, dropped off a pretty cool piece of music he put together. Here's what he says about it:

This isn't any sort of easy remix or anything, this tune was built with full instrumentation from the ground up. Matt Cox (me) of the band Windsor Medium wrote this new theme for Halo, inspired by Marty O'Donnell's favorite melody. I play every instrument heard. NOTE: This is just a 2-minute clip of the 5-minute song it will be soon. I will be adding piano and strings to the final version.

This is the kind of music I want to hear while searching, then bullet-dancing with Gold Elites...with a butt-load of explosions, too.

Go grab Hail to 117 (1.8mb, mp3) and look for that Gold Elite! (Louis Wu 01:22:41 UTC)

Halo music used in political video
Mooreburg found a rather strange report - apparently, according to the Palestinian Media Watch organization, the Palestinian Authority is using Halo's theme in a video aimed at promoting the Palestinian cause. Microsoft has made a statement that the use of the music was wholly unsanctioned. If you decide to participate in the forum thread on this subject, please remember that political discussion is simply not allowed on our forum; keep your comments Halo-related, or the thread will end up locked. (The wider topic is pretty incendiary, and we simply don't need it here... we're a game site.) (Louis Wu 19:49:02 UTC)

Halo Babies is back up! Bandwidth restrictions have lifted a bit, so there's a strip today, and there'll be another on Friday. There's also a PayPal link, if you want to help out with their moving costs... The strip itself is Christmas-themed... and a harbinger of things to come. Ouch! (Louis Wu 22:13:53 UTC)

Halo-ize Panther.
Unsanity, a company devoted to tweaking the user interface of Mac OSX, has announced ShapeShifter, a product that will allow you to add 'themes' to your interface. One of the first themes released (in fact, installed with the program) is called Eylo (rhymes with Halo) - and a quick look at the theme shows why. Check it out! (Thanks, Mig.) Halo Vice
Rico has submitted an introduction sequence for an upcoming video project entitled 'Halo Vice' - in his words:

Originally I just wanted to use the footage to better understand my new editing system, but after suggestions from several friends and input from members of the RHOH chapter at Bungie.net I have decided to create a series of "shows" that can be freely distributed openly on the internet and on DVD. The goal is to have a moody, action-highlighted drama along the same lines as the classic 80's television show Miami Vice (hence the theme music lifted off of composer Jan Hammer's "Escape From Television" album). I even managed to find a similar font for all the titling! All images were compiled on miniDV and edited in Final Cut Pro 4.0.2.

The video is 2:44 long, encoded in MPEG-4, and weighs in at 16 mb. You can contact Rico through his 7th Column chapter, Rico's House of Halo. (The movie was originally uploaded to FilePlanet - but was then redone. The current FP version is out of date - you should grab the files.bungie.org one linked above. When the FilePlanet version has been updated, we'll post news about it.) (Louis Wu 20:47:35 UTC)

Strings.
SilverBrin**** has submitted another impressive piece of Fan music; this one's called 'Mombasa', and it weighs in at a hefty 7.4 mb. (It's just over 4 minutes long.) Here's what SB has to say about it:

Ever since seeing the Halo 2 demo played at E3 and watching videos of it, I have been taken with the broad and epic tone of the orchestral music accompanying the fantastic New Mombasa level. It think it is one of Marty O'Donnell's biggest successes to date. Last week I decided I would like to totally remake the orchestral theme accompanying the video and accentuate my favorite themes and melodies and add some moments of my own. So I started from scratch and finished with this four-minute remake of the New Mombasa demo music and named it "Mombasa".
Mombasa.mp3 is actually part of a much much larger Bungie audio/fan-music based project that Jester and myself will be showcasing on Psyjnir. Jester will be talking more about this project "SitKoB" later. Enjoy this file and feel free to give us feedback!
Because I'm loathe to add email addresses any more to the front page (spam is evil), your best bet for feedback is our forum. (Louis Wu 08:51:25 UTC)

New Themes, New People
4 new themes have been added to the 7th Column roster - you can make your Chapter over in one of three Halo-related themes (Shotguns is pretty cool), or (my favorite) a 7th Column theme known as Euphoria Station. SketchFactor also managed to slip in the information that there are two new members of the Bungie Online Team - Claire and Zoe (last names and handles were not included). Welcome aboard, from your dedicated fanbase! (Louis Wu 11:10:32 UTC)

It's coming... (cue Jaws theme)
Apologies for the short downtime this evening. No, the box isn't having troubles - it was actually up and running, just not serving this website. Why? because it was preparing for tomorrow's massive Halo goodness (that oh-so-luscious direct-feed footage we've all been waiting so long for). We've been helping Bungie do a little bit of mirror site setup. I figure half an hour of downtime tonight is easily compensated by what you're gonna have access to tomorrow... Now THAT'S some cool music.
Last year, Justin Durban turned in a pair of pretty nice pieces of music based on the halo theme (here and here). He's done it again - today we got a copy of Ruined Desert, a 5.4 mb mp3. Here's what Justin says about it:

This one gives it a small bit of an ethnic feel. I'm imagining a desert scene inside a HUGE sandlike temple. Almost if it was back in the day of Caesar and the Romans. Or even the ancient Egyptian times. Perhaps a gladiator type arena fight and preparation?

Of course, I have to thank Marty O'Donnell again for creating a kickass soundtrack and inspirational music.

Go grab a copy, and see what you think. I can see the dunes now... (Louis Wu 00:32:34 UTC)

Timing
Well, Mythica's back down to it's standard 5 Mbit/sec serving rate, so the Birds spike is over; time for the NEXT movie. This one's from Mister E, and it's called 'Timing'. The theme is exactly that - there are lots of 'kill and then die' sequences, with some very nice integration with the trance-like music. It's just under 2 minutes, and is available in both Windows Media Player 9 (18.1 mb, 640x480) and QuickTime (12.4 mb, 480x360) formats from Mythica, as well as mirrors at That Weasel Television (the QT version there is 10.1 mb, and of lower quality) and the Psyjnir Complex Hotline server (the QT version is the 12.4 mb version).
