Gird Your Loins
Gah! I click the wrong link and find that I've inadvertently updated the Comics section with Warbow's latest Calvin and Halo. Obviously, Calvin hasn't found CafePress yet. Update: Ooops. This wasn't supposed to go live before Tuesday, and it was supposed to be accompanied by a big welcome to Blackstar, who's joined Warbow on the Calvin and Halo team. (There's a new banner at the top of the page, making this clear.) Warbow and Blackstar want to make it very clear that they're not accepting ANY guest strips for this comic; Warbow, in fact, was forced to add Blackstar to the crew BECAUSE he needed the strips being submitted, but couldn't accept them since they were guest strips. (They're not adding anyone new to the team, either, so don't even try.) Strips without attribution are submitted by Warbow, while Blackstar's creations will be signed by him. He's done a great job of maintaining the high standards Warbow set - enjoy! (mnemesis 05:23:42 UTC)

Figuring the odds
Gamepro has reviewed the second wave of Halo action figures (to go with their review of the first wave); if you want to read about these puppies before you buy 'em, this is a good place. Thanks again to KP. Update: GAH! I feel terrible; we got word from Gamepro yesterday about this article, and I completely missed it. One bit of info that I overlooked was that they're giving away an entire case of these figures - look for the contest link at the bottom of the article. I've really got to learn to read my email better. (Louis Wu 11:00:19 UTC)

Articles over at BGH
Gah - missed stuff. We got word this morning from Rams, over at Battleground: Halo, that there were two more articles posted today; the first was a review of First Strike (FULL of spoilers), and the other is a rambling look at Xbox vs PS2 gamers. I blame the lateness on KP. (Louis Wu 02:19:57 UTC)

Wait, I think you missed one...
In the 'too much time on their hands' category, Hikaru-119 takes home the golden penguin for his Munitions count on all campaign levels of Halo. Gah. (Louis Wu 15:51:41 UTC)

That's just too many words.
The guests have gone, the cleanup is mostly finished, and I came down to look at the Fan Fiction queue, knowing that the last time I did so was 3 days ago. Gah... 35 new pieces! (And that's after rejecting the ones that shouldn't have been submitted...)

I guess you've got some reading to go with your digesting, this evening. (Louis Wu 00:20:23 UTC)

New Halo 2 material - on store shelves?
Whoa. So back on August 31, Rampant Cowboy pointed out a thread over at TeamXbox which was discussing a product someone found in their store's database called 'XBX-Halo 2 BUNDLE' - price was $19.99, release date was November 15. RC's thread went nowhere - there were a couple of posts, but I think MY feeling at the time was that this was a packaged version of the E3 demo, or something. On November 2, RC brought it up again, because there was new info over at TeamXbox. Again, the thread went nowhere - this time, because Mat Noguchi (a Bungie programmer) shot it down. Yesterday, however, Opie301 mentioned SEEING something like this on the shelf at his local Best Buy... and SketchFactor actually confirmed that there IS something to it. He was under the impression that it wasn't supposed to be released before Thanksgiving... but it really is new Halo 2 material, and it's not just the E3 demo vid. A cookie to the first reader who tells us what's actually THERE. (And thanks, belatedly, to Rampant Cowboy, for not getting discouraged. :) ) Update: Gah, I should read the whole thread before posting. Opie went back to Best Buy, and picked up the package (a DVD/Controller bundle) - and it's all material he's seen before. (The 'Behind the Scenes Halo 2 Documentary' sounds like it might be the Discovery Channel piece that we weren't able to put online for legal reasons... so maybe there IS a valid reason for buying this if you don't need the controller.) A full list of what's on the DVD is in that last post. (Louis Wu 12:04:15 UTC)

Trick or Treat...
Gah. Chris Macias uploaded a picture of his Halloween costume a couple of days ago... we didn't get to it. Better late than never! He went as an Xbox (240K), and the costume was good enough that he received a copy of Halo from the Microsoft employee that lived at one of the houses he visited. Not too shabby! October Screens added
Gah. All these Halo reviews... the Screenshots database was out of date. I've just added 18 collections (334 shots) to bring us up to the weekend. It never ends... (Louis Wu 17:00:59 UTC)

They had a party - but nobody came
Gah - nobody showed up! SeeMePlayMe held a tourney yesterday... and the HBO team of synide, goatrope, jayWHY, and devin were the only folks there. :( People - try this out. It costs nothing to enter, and there are prizes to win. (Next tourney is Thursday, a 2v2 event.) (Louis Wu 08:35:14 UTC)

WCG Tourney taken by TDT member
Gah. I gotta get a better junk filter. The MLG press releases get filtered right into my Junk folder, when they'd be far better off on HBO's front page... Major League Gaming announced on Friday that Matt "Zyos" Leto, a member of The Dream Team (a group MLG sponsors), walked away with top Halo honors at the World Cyber Games tourney in Seoul, Korea last week. (He pocketed $20,000.) Streaming video of the event is available on this page... you're looking for 'Leto vs Hebbada'. (The blow-by-blow is rather bizarre.) Go check it out! Donut or Bagel? Oh, wait, that's a different site...
Gah. I thought I could get away with not posting this... but there seem to be a lot of Gamespy fans among you. The current Gamespy Grudge match (visible on the bottom left of their home page) is between Halo's Master Chief and Half-Life's Gordon Freeman. Go vote. At the moment, MC's getting his butt kicked. First heads-up for this goes to jabond102, about 24 hours ago. (Louis Wu 01:28:35 UTC)

Making of the E3 Demo, pt 5: Engineering
Gah! How did we miss this? SketchFactor has put up part 5 of the Making of the E3 Demo series at Bungie.net - this one focuses on Engineering, and contains input from Chris Butcher, Michael Evans, and Damian (brought on board to work on the Halo 2 AI). It's a fascinating read. I'm drooling for Halo 2 again... even WITH the Halo PC info overload. (Louis Wu 21:43:35 UTC)

Dinner With Lara.
Gah. Stuntmutt went to the effort of creating a second Sunday Strip for One One Se7en... and I almost forgot to post it while it was still Sunday! I think I finally understand something that's been bugging me for years... (Louis Wu 21:55:19 UTC)

darkhelmet.org: down, but not out
Gah. Dark Helmet writes to say that his site, darkhelmet.org, is currently offline due to an administrative snafu. He wants everyone to know that it will be back, better than ever, as soon as he can make it happen. Dark Helmet was a pioneer in putting hogs on top of things; he went lots of places first. We can't wait until his site is back, with new content! (Louis Wu 02:19:58 UTC)

blam.bungie.org archives back online!
Yesterday, Ross Mills pointed out that the archive of our very early days was offline. A quick email to Aaron Davies, though, fixed the problem - thanks to him, some of our earliest history is now permanently stored right here on this site. Take a walk down memory lane (or see it for the first time, if you haven't been coming to this site for 4 years)! Gah. This reminds me... we missed our 4-year anniversary. :( (Louis Wu 18:24:28 UTC)

One One Se7en - times 7hree
Gah! We got behind because of E3 -I'm really sorry. There are three new episodes of One One Se7en for your viewing pleasure. (These are the episodes for last Wednesday, last Friday, and today.) I'll try and make sure this doesn't happen again. (Louis Wu 14:13:26 UTC)

Gettin' out the Artwork
Once again, the art queue has built, a little bit. Here are five pictures submitted to the Miscellaneous Art section over the past few days... Update: Gah, missed one. It's from almost 2 weeks ago, even. (Louis Wu 10:13:29 UTC)

He's just a boy.
Gah - sometimes, the updates get away from you. While you're all waiting for me to clear out the art queues, the fiction queues, the screenshot queue... go watch this movie. Figh7erbo1 is a short (1:39) piece set to Avril Lavigne's Sk8ter Boi... nice timing. 6 mb, in QT format, from chris_roc. (Louis Wu 20:08:39 UTC)

Tricks? You people remember tricks?
After 56 days of drought, the Tricks page gets updated through the end of July. Only 3 months behind! Gah. Anyway, go check out the 6 new tricks posted in the Gameplay Tricks section. (I've decided to leave out Frogblast's tricks until I've cleared the rest of the queue - there are just so many of them. Remember, all of his are documented at Utfoo.) August is coming as soon as I can get to it. (Please - sending mail asking when this section is going to be updated will do nothing but upset me. I can't answer the question, and every time someone asks, I feel worse.) (Louis Wu 19:49:15 UTC)

We like frogs
Gah. Sometimes life just kicks you in the - oh, never mind. HBO was down for a couple of hours this evening, but not because it changed IP addresses. It died because of user error (with me as the user). We got it up and running again - but the IP change has to wait for morning. So there will still be an outage tomorrow, on top of this recent outage. Hopefully, it won't be a long one. (The Time To Live on the dns records for this site were set to something ridiculously short this morning; in theory, that means that the downtime will be minimized. Some of you, of course, will be on networks that pay no attention to niceties like dns records, and HBO will be down for however long your service provider takes to update its files. Can't be helped.) Once again, I'd remind all that the HBO forum is on another network entirely, and will NOT be going offline. (Louis Wu 00:32:53 UTC)

binary wallpaper
Gah! First it's ascii art in html format... now it's ascii art as... ART! Well, desktops, anyway. Blizzard turns in a pair of desktop images for our Wallpaper section, and for good measure throws in the Halo logo, in binary code. (You'll find that last in our Logos section.)
