It's Miller Time.
Hehe - today's One One Se7en was originally scheduled to be a Wednesday strip, so that it could properly whinge about the Legendary Walkthrough chapter that had been released the day before. We did some shuffling recently, and I guess I screwed up. Pretend it's Wednesday. In fact, pretend it's Wednesday a few weeks ago, since the MC's still in Cairo Station. Gah. Rise of the Machines
The Red vs Blue crew is at the Sundance Film Festival this week... and the Salt Lake Tribune has found them interesting enough to warrant a feature. A nice general overview... go read! (They see a million downloads a week? That's... um, like 25 or 30 terabytes or so. Gah.) Thanks, ICDedPpl. (Louis Wu 16:33:03 UTC)

Tribute to Burial Mounds
Gah. This was supposed to go up earlier this afternoon, but I've been gone all day. TheTaintedOne created a video he calls 'Tribute to Burial Mounds' - a glitch film with one important difference from other glitch films - it's in widescreen mode. Really nicely done, showing most of the funky stuff you can do on Burial Mounds, performed by his clan, The Custom Gamers Clan. He's hosting the low-res WMP9 version (14 mb) - and HALOChat has hosted a higher-quality WMP9 version (24 mb). We're using the bandwidth of the Mighty KP to bring you a low-res WMP9 mirror and a low-res QuickTime version (16 mb). So you understand - the screensize of both high and low versions are the same - there's more data in the large version, if you choose to expand it on your screen. (Louis Wu 01:05:18 UTC)

Play Halo with Chevelle
Weird. The Game with Fame promotion (play over XBL with famous people; previous participants include Willis McGahee and Ben Burnley) continues - with the band Chevelle. Sign up on this page; grand prize winner will get an Xbox and the chance to play Chevelle online on December 20. 100 runner-ups will also get to play (but won't get Xboxes). An additional 10 people will win a copy of Chevelle's new album. Thanks to DailyGame for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 18:32:09 UTC)

Clan HBO
Wow, I've been really remiss at dealing with this; sorry. We started up a Clan HBO on Xbox Live a bit before Halo 2 was available... but I've had no time to think about actually getting the whole membership thing off the ground. Maybe this huge delay will actually work out; many of the people who MIGHT have been interested in being clan members have probably gone out and joined other clans now in disgust. In any case, it's time; if you're interested in being a member of the HBO clan, shoot an email to clanrequest@bungie.org and I'll add you to the list. First come, first served, I guess; there are currently about 80 spots left. (Think of this as a mini-test; if you mail your request to a DIFFERENT email address, I'm going to assume you have trouble with simple reading comprehension, and I'm likely not going to bother adding you.) One thing to keep in mind; HBO has ALWAYS been about the fun of the game. If you're looking for a hyper-competitive clan... this ain't for you. I'm sure we're gonna have some decent players, and win games, and all... but the idea is to have a place to go to find like-minded people you enjoy playing with - that's always going to trump rank-h00ring for us. Update: Please - if you're going to send a request, do me two favors: remember to include your gamertag... and spell it right. Thanks. Update 2: Gah, the requests are pouring in WAY faster than they can be accomodated. We're currently at 100 members (the limit), though Bungie.net says 98, because two of the gamertags are having trouble. I'd love to accept everyone... but it won't let me. :( I haven't even figured out how we're going to organize matches - but maybe if we get something set up, we can build a second HBO team. (There were certainly enough people to fill a second 100-member clan...) Thanks, everyone - now get to playing! (Louis Wu 10:16:16 UTC)

Frankie interviewed on the Not So Late Show
Gah - I totally forgot to grab this this morning, or post it. :( clarksbrother interviewed Frankie yesterday on his local TV show (phone-in interview), and has made the audio available to the masses (almost 24 minutes, 8mb). Go grab it - then let him know what you think! I'm out for the rest of the day... (Louis Wu 16:49:19 UTC)

Inpunstible.
Stuntmutt has not one strip today, but TWO. There's his regular One One Se7en, which continues the study of the Drone, but there's also a Guest Halo Babies strip over at halobabies.net. Too many puns spoil the... something. (Louis Wu 16:21:01 UTC)

Playin' with the stars
cptn mexico found an article that adds another player to the Game With Fame promotion (we posted the Willis McGahee press release last week) - guitarist Ben Burnley from Breaking Benjamin will be participating tomorrow night, 9 pm Eastern. Go play! (Louis Wu 14:28:50 UTC)

Movies
Two new video clips for you today, around the web; Xbox Central is hosting an MTV news clip showing the 'Halo 2 Council' (celebrities getting special Halo 2 goodies) and the Pelican case'd Xbox/screen that's among their loot: 8 mb, WMP9 format (thanks, Ben Bayes), and there's a higher-res version of the leaked EB Games commercial we saw a couple of weeks ago; unfortunately, the only place it's currently available is on a site hosting pirated information, so we're not going to pass out the URL. (It's also in French.) Thanks, Hikaru-119. Update: Gah, I should have passed on this news item altogether. Warbow points out that the MTV piece is no longer available, either. Sorry. The Halo 2 Council?
Gah. I wrote this up this morning - but forgot to post it. Credit goes to Rampancy.net, which is where I found it. Over on MTV.com, there's a story about "the Halo 2 Council", a group of '7' (if you count each of three bands as '1') who receive a specialized xbox/screen combination and a copy of Halo 2 before November 9. It's not at all clear 1) how this list was compiled, 2) WHY this list was compiled, or 3) why Bungie allowed these 7 discs out of their hands when nobody else is getting them... but that's the way celebrity is, I guess. (I'd be pretty unhappy if I were a member of Breaking Benjamin - I'm one of three popular bands to be featured in the game, and the OTHER TWO get Pelican cases? Ouch!) Thanks to the dozens of people who wrote pointing out that we missed this story. (Louis Wu 20:33:11 UTC)

That's sort of how I feel, too...
Gah. The other thing I missed yesterday was Blackstar's latest Calvin and Halo. Which is kind of a bummer, since it really was appropriate for yesterday. Go read. (Louis Wu 01:37:31 UTC)

I looked for a unifying theme... none, sorry
Gah - two OTHER comic-related offerings today from around the web; Dork Tower mentions Halo (thanks, Brad) and there's a new episode of Marines at Sector 7 (thanks, Wolfy). Go read! (Louis Wu 12:48:13 UTC)

Hah! It's Chumble SPIZZ.
Gah. I got so busy I forgot to come back and post Blackstar's Thursday offering for Calvin and Halo. I'm really sorry about that. Even more so because if you're in school, you might have been able to use this today. Such is life sometimes. (Louis Wu 12:18:04 UTC)

343 Guilt O' Lantern
An astoundingly generous fan - who wishes to remain anonymous - has donated some pretty cool schwag for use in a new Bungie.org contest; we're proud to announce 343 Guilt O' Lantern, a pumpkin-carving contest. Last year, Bungie hosted their own, and it was pretty successful - our fan wanted to see it happen again, and made sure it would by tossing an Xbox and all the trimmings into the pot. Unfortunately, we can't ship it to the winner in time to be able to play Halo 2 the day it comes out... but soon after that, the coolest pumpkin carver will have another toy. Go read all the details on our Contest page - and if you ever need to refresh your memory about the rules, or whatnot, the small pumpkin banner in our navbar will be available for clickthroughs until after the contest closes. Start your exacto knives! Update: Gah. Apologies... but it was just pointed out to me that we never specified what format this Xbox was in. It's an NTSC box... and although I HATE having to say this, I really don't want to have to ship it out of North America. So the contest is limited to the US and Canada... sorry. That's why they call it weekly, right?
Gah. Once again, I've forgotten to update the Bungie Weekly Update archive until the end of the week. It's updated now, with last week's quickie from Halo Babies. Just in time for today's NEW update. Erk. (Louis Wu 16:08:35 UTC)

Halo 2 Readiness Guide - finally
Gah. Almost a month ago, ferory pointed out a 'Halo 2 Readiness Guide' that had gone up on Xbox.com, giving information on what you might want to do to get ready for the release of Halo 2. I wrote back at the time that we'd already posted about that when it went up on Bungie.net; a couple of weeks earlier, B.net had posted a 'Prepare Yourself' article, and in that timeframe, a bunch of old B.net stories began to appear on Xbox.com, and I assumed that this was just another example of recycled content. I was wrong - it's a different article altogether, similar subjects notwithstanding. My bad for not checking more closely. Thanks to both forum posters and emailers who pointed out this article again in the last day or two, and made me look a second time. (Louis Wu 10:16:00 UTC)

Flight of the Marine
No, no, I was right... it's Movie Day. Hehe - if you wondered why folks thinking about entering High Impact Halo's The 3 Towers competition were happy to hear that Dark Helmet was a judge, and couldn't compete... watch this video (15.3 mb, WMV format) showing how it's done, with s7yle. (For you WMP-haters out there, I've ripped a QT version - 16.8 mb.) Thanks to Ash for pointing this puppy out. Update: Gah. Looks like Dark Helmet posted it himself on our forum, last night. Sorry, DH! (Louis Wu 09:51:51 UTC)

Play Halo, benefit a Tulsa hospital
GAH! This came in last week, but got lost. (Sorry, Peter.) The Tulsa Jaycees are hosting a video game contest to benefit a local Tulsa hospital on July 10. Halo is one of 9 games in the lineup (rules can be downloaded here, in pdf format). If you live in or near Tulsa, OK, this might be of interest to you! (Louis Wu 18:52:00 UTC)

Are you tired of Wallpaper yet?
Gah. In the mad rush to format 60 wallpaper submissions in the past few days, we managed to skip over a pretty amazing entry; it was released on the Red vs Blue site a few weeks ago - and we asked then if we could include it here. Nesnora said yes, so I added it to the queue - and even got as far as adding it to the 'images to be processed' yesterday. Somehow, though, it didn't get uploaded. Maybe I felt it needed its own entry, on some level. In any case, it's in our Wallpaper section now. Enjoy! (Louis Wu 08:35:11 UTC)

Gah. New Hands-on stuff at IGN
I HAVE TO GO! I'm gonna miss my plane. :( But I thought I'd make one last round of the big boys - and IGN has two new Hands-On articles up (Volume 2 and Volume 3) about their Halo 2 experiences. Go read. (Louis Wu 07:25:03 UTC)

Covenant Creature Catalog
Bungie.net has been updated with a new Top Story - A Covenant Primer: The Best of the Bestiary. There's some excellent background information about the Covenant itself (and how the Forerunners fit into the equation), along with individual descriptions of each client species. Absolutely worth a read for anyone interested in the backstory of Halo! I heard about this on the #hbo IRC channel this morning, but the earliest note I can find about it is from MC vince on our forum. Update: Gah, is right. Seems mnemesis actually posted this story when it first went live... I never checked the page. :( My bad! (Thanks, Dean.) (Louis Wu 10:21:15 UTC)

The Best Of The Bestiary
Hokey Smokes! Apparently, Frankie has gone insane and is actually providing official story information on the Covenant over on Bungie.Net. Godlike Forerunner! Engineers in trances! Jackal snipers! With needlers! Gah! Thanks to MC Vince, for noticing the story in the first place. (mnemesis 04:38:03 UTC)

My eyes are burning.
Geez - you don't update Fan Fiction for a few days, and suddenly you've got 29 entries to post.

Gah - I hope that's the last of it for the weekend... luckily, you've got two days to read all this. In the future, I'd appreciate it if folks would keep their handles to a minimum - post by your real name, or post by a nickname... but don't post by both, it makes a total mess of my front page. Thanks! (Louis Wu 11:28:02 UTC)

Gah. I managed to forget to add this almost until the next one came out... but last week's Frankie's Weekly Bungie Update, posted at Battleground Halo, has now been added to the Updates Archive. Sorry about the delay! (Louis Wu 17:13:06 UTC)
