The 3D revolution in real-time strategy continues apace as Sierra's Ground Control gets ready for launch in the summer. And for those of you waiting with baited breath for Halo to arrive, this title might prove to be just as desirable.

peapon who writes from Ireland says he was watching Skyrocket a sort of internet tv show on Sky One just before the magnetic pulse attack and noted that Halo was featured.

There was no new info just the usual about the great graphics, rolling shell casings and smoke trails blowing in the wind plus a strange comment about how romantic it all sounded?!? At the end of it the presenters strongly recommended that we go visit bungie's web site and check it out. Imagine how many people this will reach, bungie has really has gone global!

As reported on our forums by Bagman the Marathon's Story page reports a Newsweek article that discussed the battle field of the future. Buggies, supersoldiers, parafoils, all stuff we've seen in Halo. Best of all is the term "Swarm". "Small squads of 25 soldiers-linked by superb communications equipment-roam the battlefield. When one squad finds an enemy, it summons the others, and the units swarm." Hopefully this term will be adopted by Halo players rather than clans! Pax. (Crux Fidelis 19:57:53 UTC) (permalink)

Dennis Taylor sends word of a John Carmack interview over at Thresh's Firing Squad. In the section titled (strangely enough) "id is not a publisher", Carmack has this to say about Halo:

FS: Are you interested in Halo at all?

John: I've watched the movies of it; it looks pretty good. The one problem right now is that there's no way to really judge anything from screenshots because any halfway competent rendering engine can render any given scene. And it's only in how things tie together that there's any differentiation. Certainly the Bungie people, they've got a lot of talent. And they've been doing this basically as long as we have. They were kind of id's Mac shadow for many years. But now that they've gone ahead and had some mainstream PC success, they're doing pretty well.

Do you agree with his assessment of Bungie's place in the gaming industry? Sound off! (Louis Wu 18:58:29 UTC) (permalink)
