Showing results 1 - 25 of 99 matches March 5, 2025 Link to this post The Autumn! She's been hit! Sometimes I'm amazed this site is still online; it launched in 1999, more than a quarter-century ago, and although it's not quite as lively as it once was, it's still visited by people who love the Halo franchise and love the creations that have been brought into being via that franchise. I have thousands of good memories associated with this site and its community... but few are as cherished as the lanfest I was invited to in 2001, where we celebrated the final chemo treatment of Brian Morden. (If you don't recognize the name, type it into the search bar here; there are plenty of links.) We honor him every February 15, with a symbol on this website... but today I listened to a podcast where his best childhood friend, Brian Johnson, remembered him and his contribution to the Halo universe, and I was reminded, again, how powerful hope can be. (It really couldn't have come at a better time, so huge thanks to Brian - well, both Brians - to the Twenty Thousand Hertz podcast, and to Adam Daniel, who brought it to my attention.) Go listen. it's a great story. (Louis Wu 17:01:36 UTC)
June 4, 2013 Link to this post HBOhio '13 - a look back DayandKnightly got a chance to write up his experience at HBOhio (a lanfest that took place in mid-May) - swing by his forum post to experience all the fun! (Louis Wu 20:31:07 UTC)
January 24, 2013 Link to this post Ohio, where the wind co- wait... Do you live near Ohio? Do you love playing Halo with fun people? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you might be interested in HBOhio, a LANfest being planned by Revenant1988 - go read about it and see what's going on! And don't forget to block off the weekend of April 20th on your calendar. (Louis Wu 15:05:41 UTC)
June 13, 2011 Link to this post Halo LANfest in Ohio Andy Deck is a Halo fan who lives in Cincinnati, OH - and he will be hosting a Halo REACH LAN party on the weekend of June 24th and 25th. It's the 7th event he's hosted like this - but some of his regulars can't make it, so he'd like to open it to folks who've never been. If you're in the area, drop him an email! (There's a bunch more info in a Facebook post - but I don't have a link.) Update: If you're logged into Facebook, you can see the LAN page here - Andy just let me know that he's got 5 spaces available at this time. (Louis Wu 17:34:44 UTC)
September 23, 2008 Link to this post TTL Tuesday - it's back! Tied the Leader, quiet on the blogging front for a bit, is back with a sizeable update. There's a reminder about the Tied The Leader Foundation, and the latest fan-driven efforts to aid its mission. There's a huge, picture-filled recap of ChicagoLANd 3.0, a TTL lanfest that took place over Labor Day weekend in (um... duh?) Chicago. And there's a video highlight reel of some of the fun Gunslinger moments captured over the course of August matchmaking. Go read, go watch - these folks embody the spirit of the Halo community! (Louis Wu 13:16:53 UTC)
June 21, 2008 Link to this post Library Learns from Halo LAN Heh - the Plumsted, NJ public library has discovered that you can attract a little-seen demographic (young adults) by hosting a Halo lanfest. (The article mentions that young MALE adults were brought in - but the picture accompanying the story shows a mixed audience.) The question is, are they checking out books before they leave? (Louis Wu 12:44:45 UTC)
October 6, 2007 Link to this post Drink Up.
ViralSyris noticed some new party cups in the Bungie Store - perfect for lanfests. (Louis Wu 14:50:08 UTC)

You might remember Zach Wigal, the guy who had his dreams of a Halo lanfest dashed by his school administration, and went on to form a charity in response... well, that charity's website is now up and running. Go check it out! (Louis Wu 13:32:17 UTC)
April 2, 2007 Link to this post How to set up a LANfest Zerowind117 put together a short documentary about setting up a LANfest - specifically a Halo 2 LANfest. Video is hosted at Google. Take a look. (Louis Wu 18:00:08 UTC)

Nomi is a regular of the irc.bungie.org #hbo channel - and last fall, she was one of the attendees at a LANfest in Ohio, hosted by Tarny. What started as an insert for a Christmas card/thank you note to Tarny has grown into almost a cottage industry - check out her ultra-cool Paper Spartans! (Louis Wu 19:43:07 UTC)
January 4, 2007 Link to this post Furhman can sleep anywhere. The LANfest that took place here last week has now been written up on Bungie.net - KP got a little hyperbolic, but there are some great pics. I'd said the last time I'd posted about this LAN that I'd summarize the rest of the writeups at a later date - this seems like a fine later date. Blackstar posted a video slideshow of his photos (you can see the individual pics at Rampancy.net), Jillybean summarized her experiences in the Home of the Free, and rets posted a huge video of a 1v1 match against Schooly D. (If you all download this, you will likely crush his server; only grab it if you really want to watch it.) Finally, Mintz posted a writeup over at Hushed Casket. There will likely be one more post down the road - I've got a whole lot of photos to go into a bunch of galleries - but don't hold your breath for that. Once again, thanks to all who came, and apologies to all who should have, but didn't. (Louis Wu 23:27:45 UTC)
December 31, 2006 Link to this post Deadly Night - First Looks As is probably known by now (since Frankie mentioned it in the Weekly Update on Friday), there was a lanfest here at HBO Central this past week; it was fun. Folks with more energy than I've got have already begun posting writeups on our forum - Ma1agate was first, with retsamolah not far behind. Eventually, there'll be lots of pics online as well. (I'll probably hold news about updates until I can write one big one, so that you don't have to see lots of little news posts.) These are fun reads; there or not there, it's often fun to get a real-life view of folks you spend time with on the forum or in IRC. (Louis Wu 21:57:04 UTC)
December 6, 2006 Link to this post Halo 1 Lanfest Whoa. If you're pining for some good old-fashioned Halo 1 LAN action, check out this post on the High Impact Halo website. Kansas in mid-January... I hear it's cold, but you'll be inside. Thanks, Ducain. (Louis Wu 22:56:41 UTC)
August 16, 2006 Link to this post Open Letter to Will Smith Wannabe Tied the Leader has a couple of bits for you this week - there's a private message to a hacker, detailing ways to get to Bungie, and there's a virtual walkthrough of the loft that will be used for their upcoming lanfest early next month. Thanks, XerxdeeJ. (Louis Wu 10:50:15 UTC)
August 16, 2006 Link to this post Boisterous spirits KP has written up his version of the events in Atlanta this weekend - swing by Bungie.net for text and pictures (including a shot of Schooly D's butt) of LANbex, which sounds like a truly old-school lanfest. (Louis Wu 02:36:18 UTC)
July 30, 2006 Link to this post Buttonbasher interviews Eric Nylund Yesterday was spent in the pursuit of the perfect Halo kill; a really fun lanfest hosted by a (relatively) local RvB fan. As such, news was... on hold around here. Time to clean out the queue. First up: Klind posted his interview with Eric Nylund - Eric talked a little bit about the different vehicles Bungie uses to tell the Halo story (books, the game, the HGN, the upcoming movie), and how they might tie in to each other. He was asked a number of good questions by fans, and his answers bear reading! Check it out. (Louis Wu 14:33:42 UTC)
June 3, 2006 Link to this post Knowledge Dan Chosich put together a pretty cool montage of his E3/D3 (Dean's post-E3 lanfest) experience; it does a wonderful job of showing the insanity that is E3, and has a few Halo-related clips from the lanfest to boot. Two versions are available - a 'small' version, 87 mb, QuickTime format, 640x360... and an HDV version, 128 mb, 1280x720, H.264 encoding (be sure your computer is up to this before grabbing it). Presentation is spectacular. (Louis Wu 18:44:03 UTC)
May 26, 2006 Link to this post Cookout! Grenades! Cake! rapture sent word that recently the Hushed Casket held a LANfest - 'Cookout! Grenades! 2' - to celebrate one member's house purchase and the anniversary of the first Cookout! Grenades! LAN (with a shout-out to Midnight, who couldn't be there because he's in Iraq)... and of course, they had a Halo-themed cake (pic 1 | pic 2). Nice! (Louis Wu 17:05:45 UTC)
September 24, 2005 Link to this post The LAN Locator DoctorEvol has been working on the LAN Locator system - you can find it linked off the Coconut Lounge, his website. Add in the details of your next lanfest, and folks will be able to search the database for it! (This is only as good as the data it collects - so if you like the idea, use it.) (Louis Wu 17:48:47 UTC)
September 4, 2005 Link to this post Chanel No 117. In an attempt to give you some of the flavor of the LANfest held at Miguel Chavez's house last weekend, Stuntmutt has created a special Sunday One One Se7en. (Louis Wu 13:41:44 UTC)
August 29, 2005 Link to this post Can't be all bad. As has been mentioned a few times recently, a lengthy LANfest (6 days now, sort of, and counting) has been going on involving some community regulars. The first real writeup got posted to our forum a little bit ago - Stuntmutt, taking a page from Tolstoy's playbook, wrote a monster of a reminiscence of the trip so far. (I must say, I've been maligned. Possibly justifiably... but maligned nonetheless. Pistols at dawn, sir.) It's a great read, whether you were there or not - it sums up some of the high points of the event really nicely. (Pisses me off - he nailed pretty much every single point I wanted to cover in my OWN writeup. I may just have to admin his post and put my name on it.) Check it out. (Louis Wu 18:04:55 UTC)
August 28, 2005 Link to this post And to all, a good night. The lanfest that has been going on here for a few days will continue for a day or more to come - but unfortunately, it will do so without me. I need to head home to be with my family and responsibilities... but there was a game tonight that was notable for its competitors; we saved two screens, a pre-game screen (100K) and a post-game screen (86K). (This will only have relevance to folks who visit our forum occasionally.) I've said it before and I'll say it again - Halo 2 plus good friends plus many hours of gameplay equals some of the most fun you can have with your clothes on. (Even if you're wearing a pink shirt.) (Louis Wu 06:12:32 UTC)
August 27, 2005 Link to this post Suffer THIS! That's pretty much the end of updating for the day. An internationally-attended lanfest (notables include Stuntmutt, c0ld vengeance, BOLL, and Canada's Anton P. Nym, as well as US-based folks like Ducain, Warbow, and Shishka) kicks into full gear - it's been going for a while now, but the largest number of attendees will be here today. A game of folks who wanted to make it, but couldn't, was played yesterday - hats off. We'll be back in full swing updating tomorrow - for now, enjoy your Saturday! (Louis Wu 15:42:59 UTC)
August 23, 2005 Link to this post 2old2type ep 7: A little late Thanks to DSmooth, who pointed out Episode 7 of 2old2type, 2old2play.com's bi-weekly podcast. This one is about an hour long, weighs in at 28 mb in mp3 format, and covers their recent lanfest, as well as upcoming stuff and other stuff. And stuff. (They're also finally on iTunes, so you can subscribe from there.) Go listen! (I wish the volume had been punched up a bit...) (Louis Wu 00:02:09 UTC)
August 1, 2005 Link to this post Big Bawls LAN This weekend (GT)Juggler hosted a lanfest about 40 miles from here. I couldn't make it - which saddens me, because according to KP, it was a lot of fun. Juggler just posted a bunch of pics - take a look! (Louis Wu 18:25:26 UTC)
