Dialogue Databank Updated
So over the past year or so, I've gotten WAY behind on submitted content of specific kinds; there's just been so much, and things have been going so fast. I'm happy to say, however, that one section is now up-to-date - the Halo 2 Dialogue Databank. There are 106 new snippets available - some sitting on my hard drive for more than 12 months, others submitted today. Go listen! (Louis Wu 19:22:31 UTC)

Stop bein' such a wuss.
As a Christmas present to you all, Captain Spark recorded one last batch of Halo 2 dialogue (he'd said a while ago that he was done) - you can find 13 new snippets, including the Cortana 'Leave me!' quote from the end of High Charity, in the Dialogue Databank. Enjoy! (Louis Wu 18:54:24 UTC)

Is that all?
Another 72 dialogue snippets have been added to the Dialogue Databank, courtesy of Hellhawk (they've been queued up for MONTHS, I'm sorry it's taken so long); there are still almost 100 snippets total waiting in the queue, but there's light at the end of the tunnel! In the meantime, go listen to a few dozen Elite and Female Marine clips! (Louis Wu 17:19:18 UTC)

Pretty, ain't it?
Captain Spark released another couple of dozen snippets today - some were upgrades on existing clips, but the new ones are all now browsable in our Dialogue Databank. (You can, of course, grab them from his website, as well.) (Louis Wu 16:57:12 UTC)

New Reversed Jackal Snippets (and a final home for all)
A couple of months ago, RVideo reversed some Jackal dialogue snippets, and did a nice job of remodulating them to be audible. We said, at the time, that we would add them to the Dialogue Databank at some point. Things, as usual, got in the way, and it never happened. Today, he stopped by with a few more; they were done around the same time, but he forgot to post them here. All 11 are now included in the Dialogue Databank. The Jackals seem to be the least consistent of all voice types - some clips are reversed, some aren't... some clips are heavily modulated, others just lightly so. I guess whatever worked! I've done my part today.

Let's leave 'em neutered!
Captain Spark turned in another bunch of dialogue snippets - you can grab them off his website, or you can browse them in our Dialogue Databank. Some really nice Stacker quotes in there! (Louis Wu 16:12:24 UTC)

The squeaky wheel gets greased, punk.
Unbeknownst to us, Captain Spark's been busy on his website; he's reorganized all of his 2005 dialogue submissions to include the new category names (individual marines, etc), and he's added two new collections (on September 20 and September 29). We've added all 37 new snippets to our Dialogue Databank - there are some classics in there! (Louis Wu 18:52:29 UTC)

Terminal Announcements
Jordan117 discovered that the loudspeaker announcements on the multiplayer map Terminal range from the mundane, to the Easter-eggish. I think anyone who's played the map knows that there are a variety of announcements... but nobody (that I know of) has gone to the trouble of transcribing them before. He didn't have any way to record them - but he gave such specific instructions on how to hear the snippets well that it was trivial for me to go in and record a bunch. I only let the recording run for 15 minutes, and captured only 18 of the 25 listed - but it's a fine start, and I'm sure someone else can grab the last 7. Great stuff! Go hear the snippets in our Dialogue Databank. Update: Thanks muchly to Psychophan7, who submitted 6 of the remaining 7 clips. (They're mixed in with the original 18 at this point.) Marty also stopped by to tease everyone with a question... got any answers? (Louis Wu 15:17:02 UTC)

Air's too thin to hold the scent.
Captain Spark turned in another 26 dialogue snippets for your perusal - you can grab them at his (newly-overhauled) website, or browse them individually in our Dialogue Databank. (Louis Wu 15:17:41 UTC)

More Jackal Audio
It's been known for a while that Jackal snippets are created from reversed audio (as Halo 1 Elite snippets were) - but decoding them has been a bit more difficult than the Elites were, because they're more tweaked. RVideo took a shot at 6 of them - did a great job, too. (His post contains a link to Halo2Forum.com - or you can check out local versions in this post.) These will eventually find their way into the Dialogue Databank. (Louis Wu 12:35:18 UTC)

Look at me when I talk to you!
Clubinator turned in a pair of Master Gunns quotes from the first 'level' of Halo 2 (the training exercise); we've added them to our Dialogue Databank. Don't mess with the gunnery sergeant! (Louis Wu 11:59:01 UTC)

Johnson Speaks.
As we mentioned a few hours ago, Rockslider uncovered a new speech by Sarge, normally not audible in-game because Johnson is (usually) encountered dead on a pelican... in that time, Captain Spark reproduced the situation and recorded the snippet. You can find it in our Dialogue Databank. (The discussion is still going on in Rockslider's thread.) (Louis Wu 02:51:32 UTC)

There you are, turtle-man!
Captain Spark his dialogue snippet queue - there are 27 new Brute bits in the Dialogue Databank. As always, you can grab the lot from his website, if you don't want to browse. (Louis Wu 17:21:58 UTC)

What did he do wrong? ...Just so I know.
Captain Spark posted another 30 dialogue snippets today; you can grab them from his site, or you can browse them individually in our Dialogue Databank. This is the first batch that has all the individual players broken out. (Louis Wu 19:42:42 UTC)

Haha - wait... I don't get it.
Captain Spark submitted another couple of dozen dialogue snippets; these are not yet broken down with Marty's new identifiers (that will start next week, apparently), but don't let that stop you. You can grab them from his website, or browse them in our Dialogue Databank. (Louis Wu 16:45:18 UTC)

Marine Sassy? Really?
Marty, taking pity on us poor fans, posted a list of all the individual characters in Halo 2, and the actors who played them. We've added this list to our Names behind the Voices page - thanks, Marty! (At some point in the not-too-distant future, there'll probably be some reclassification going on in our Halo 2 Dialogue Databank.) (Louis Wu 19:45:27 UTC)

There will always be more prey.
Captain Spark pinned down another bunch of dialogue snippets - this time exclusively Brutes. Grab them from his website, or browse them in our Dialogue Databank. (There's one I can't really decipher... it actually sounds like 'sentient chariot', but that makes almost no sense, unless the brute was riding Spark around the level...) Update: LeFishy suggests 'Vegetarian!', which sounds very right to me. (Louis Wu 16:21:12 UTC)

It's a Floor Wax. It's a Dessert Topping!
Normally, we let speculation run its course on our forum - trying to decipher what Bungie meant with some obscure tidbit is more than half the fun, after all. Sometimes, though, the little stuff really gets in the way; our forum has been swamped today, for example, with debates about one of Cortana's dialogue snippets in the trailer - half the debaters believe she's saying 'I am your sword', and the other half hear 'I am your source'. Well, according to Marty O'Donnell, who really should know... it's 'sword'. Carry on. (Hey - did you notice how I slipped in a small Dialogue Databank update there, courtesy of KMS Ahrnaieanin? Slick, eh? Sorry it's in the Halo 2 bank; I don't have time to make up a Halo 3 bank right now. Soon.) (Louis Wu 20:51:25 UTC)
