slYnki's AMA slYnki has been tricking in Halo for a long time - and he's decided to do a reddit-style Ask Me Anything interview. Watch his video for more details - and then ask away! (Louis Wu 23:20:31 UTC) (permalink)
Getting out of ODST's Coastal Highway TermaciousTrickosity is back with a new vid - this one gets you out of ODST's Coastal Highway. Pretty ingenious way of solving the 'there's no way out' problem! (I love seeing this stuff. I'd probably go crazy trying to do it myself - but I love seeing others do it.) Thanks,
t00lbox. (Louis Wu 23:15:36 UTC) (permalink)
Master Chief v. Captain America Alternate Ending robofin117 stopped in with word of an alternate ending for Bat in the Sun's Captain America vs Master Chief battle (we mentioned the original back in March). It might make some of you happier. (Louis Wu 23:10:02 UTC) (permalink)
How you get up dere? Rockslider has gone back to a crazy glitch he brought to light years ago... and pushed it to an entirely new level. Go watch. (Louis Wu 23:07:14 UTC) (permalink)

Reach - AI Battle - Guta Versus All Gamecheat sent word that he released another AI battle video - this time we get to see Gútas face a variety of Covenant and Human AI. Gamecheat was a little disappointed with the results, but I still found it pretty darn fascinating. Go watch! (colindosaj 22:02:06 UTC) (permalink)

Halo TV Show Intro
It seems that Blamite stumbled upon a leak of the intro for the upcoming Halo television series. I wouldn't normally post stuff like this, but all I can say is WOW ;). (colindosaj 09:26:30 UTC) (permalink)
Marlin the Elite - Episode 88: Warm Reception Layne Thomas sent word that episode 88 of 'Marlin the Elite' has been released. In this episode Marlin's TV service is interrupted so he calls tech support for help. Will they be of any use? Go watch and find out! (colindosaj 06:40:21 UTC) (permalink)
Chettlar's Halo UI Mockup Chettlar from NeoGAF put together this rather impressive Halo UI mockup. There are plenty of pictures as well as detailed explanations of how the UI functions. I have to say that I like the tab feature and visually the menus are aesthetically pleasing. Oh, he made the whole thing entirely with powerpoint - so double impressive. Check it out! (colindosaj 06:29:42 UTC) (permalink)

Talking to Cortana Sespider came across a video that shows off some of the functionality of the Windows Phone Cortana app - the video mostly demonstrates Cortana's witty replies and humor and I have to say that I'm pretty impressed. Go watch! (colindosaj 22:05:31 UTC) (permalink)

Fails of the Weak 188 Fails of the Weak is heavy on the Reach fails this week - again, Emile is kind of a dick and there's a lot of stuff that can drop on your head when you're not paying attention. Watch it on AH.com or YouTube, and say thankya to Nikko B201 for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 19:08:03 UTC) (permalink)
AI Battle - Crawlers vs Imperial Grunts
Gamecheat sent word that he posted another AI-on-AI battle - this one pits Crawlers against Grunts and there are plenty of wonderful moments! As Gamecheat points out, even though the Crawlers have a slight advantage because they can spawn with Boltshots (see, it is overpowered) the Grunts still manage to put up a fight. If you’re interested in seeing more AI-on-AI action make sure to leave suggestions for future videos - I’m thinking 20 Gútas versus 20 forklifts. (colindosaj 07:17:56 UTC) (permalink)
Halo Music Video - Bring Me To Life TheSparbiter put together another Halo music video - this time using the song 'Bring Me To Life' by Evanescence. It focuses a little more on Cortana's story, but there's plenty of Spartan action as well. Nice work! (colindosaj 07:04:33 UTC) (permalink)
You'll Shoot Your Eye Out After four years of hard work, Redshirt98 finally completed his airsoft Spartan Laser - the weapon functions and looks pretty much like the in-game model, minus the intense beam of directed electromagnetic radiation. There's a video of the Splaser in action as well as a demonstration of what happens when you fire an airsoft gun at a person. Thanks, bsangel

Master Chief Shane Blair sent word that he's released 'Master Chief', an original song relating the saga of Halo. Really well-done! Great choices of video, and pretty impressive storytelling-via-song! Go watch. (Louis Wu 22:02:30 UTC) (permalink)
GSML - Invasion on Hushed Apprentice The Great Smokey Mountain LANboree is over now - but at least one Invasion game lives on, thanks to YouTube. You can watch it on DBO, I guess (because Paddy was too lazy to post it here). I have an intense desire to fire up Reach right now... (Louis Wu 16:37:39 UTC) (permalink)

Ooh, trading cards! Yesterday's Halo Bulletin focused on matchmaking updates (yay, Heavies!), the recently-released Escalation #05 and some fantastic melee screenshots. Check it out - either at Halo Waypoint, or right here! (Louis Wu 22:23:02 UTC) (permalink)
DogTag Origins Meant to get to this yesterday - sorry. Halochief89 stopped by with word of a fan fiction comic called 'DogTag Origins' - it focuses on a Spartan named Melissa. You can read her data file (and some expanded backstory) on his DeviantART account, or just jump through the pages in this Imgur album. Interesting! (Louis Wu 21:56:06 UTC) (permalink)
Halo - Bartholomew Music Video TheSparbiter dropped by to let us know about his latest Halo music video. The video utilizes the song 'Bartholomew' by The Silent Comedy and it fits nicely with the visuals. Check it out! (colindosaj 21:37:41 UTC) (permalink)

Shoulda Snarled Back 343 Industries and Dark Horse Comics have just released Issue #5 of Halo: Escalation. Some things are really starting to heat up in the Halo Universe! Some key questions answered, and even more raised. If you are still on the fence, then get down, it's dangerous. Also, you can check out a couple of previews from Waypoint and from Dark Horse. Go read it! (GrimBrother One 13:45:23 UTC) (permalink)

AI Battle - Knight Battlewagons vs Hunters Wow, this is actually pretty cool. Gamecheat set up some AI-on-AI battles to see which was more badass - Covenant Hunters or Forerunner Knight Battlewagons? From 1v1 up to 20v20 (which might be a little out of Halo 4's processing range, actually), check this film out to see how these guys choose to fight each other - and who's stronger! (I actually found myself impressed with how the AI handled the varying fights - not from a FIGHTING standpoint, but from a TACTICS one.) (Louis Wu 16:03:20 UTC) (permalink)
News April 21 2014
Halo | Godzilla Mashup Gugga Leunnam put together another mashup trailer - this time he took the audio from the Godzilla trailers and edited it to various Halo footage. As always, the end result is pretty superb. Check it out! (colindosaj 17:40:20 UTC) (permalink)
Never the same game twice Yesterday, Edge Magazine released a retrospective on Halo - one of a very few titles to ever earn the coveted '10' in an Edge review. It's a look back at what made that first title so special - and how gaming has changed forever in response. As with most Edge articles, it's full of memorable writing (the description of the Library as "the long dark night of the shotgun" was especially enjoyable), but mostly it's just about revisiting an old favorite through the eyes of someone who loved it as much as you did. Go give it a read!

Help us Gaben, you’re our only hope
Earlier this month we found out that Gamespy planned to shut down its servers before the end of the year leaving Halo PC and Halo CE players without a hosting service. robofin117 let us know that a group of fans started a petition for Halo PC/CE support on Steam. So far over 15,000 people have signed. Even if you don't sign, it’s worth checking out some of the neat stories from supporters talking about what the game means to them. A Crazy Halo 3 Easter Egg Surfaces... on Easter, 7 years later In January, Lord Zedd posted a short video purporting to show off a newly-discovered Halo 3 Easter Egg - but refused to explain how to reproduce it. (He preferred that fans find it on their own.) There wasn't enough in the video he posted for me to be able to tell if this was staged or real - so I left it alone, figuring that sooner or later, we'd know, one way or the other. It's Easter today, so I guess Lord Zedd decided it was time - he's posted a video showing how to trigger the egg. (It's pretty ridiculous - I don't think this would EVER have been found if not for modders looking through the code.) Go watch - I'm guessing whoever put that into the game knew they were moving over to 343 after Halo 3! (Or maybe they were just commenting on the franchise; the decision to relinquish the Halo IP was finalized in the summer of 2007, just before Halo 3's release.) Pretty cool! Thanks, gamerguy2002. (Louis Wu 17:03:41 UTC) (permalink)
The Chalk Stick is Mightier than the Sword SEspider found a pretty fun video called 'Chalk Warfare 3.0' - well-done effects, and the Halo Energy Sword plays a pretty important role! Check it out.

Fails of the Weak 187 I enjoyed the fails this week - there were some funny ones I'd never seen before. (The Kat murder clip was pretty amazing - I'm not sure what the programming behind the behavior might have been.) Watch it on AH.com or YouTube, your choice. Thanks, Nikko B201.

Rockslide megabattle pistol fiesta Rockslider returns to Halo's rockslide megabattle, this time focusing on pistol action (with a liberal sprinkling of grenades). Sometimes it's amazing to think how much fun can be generated from this one small area of the original game's campaign! (Louis Wu 16:46:23 UTC) (permalink)
Bravo: Saving Lives, Every Day Yesterday's Halo Bulletin is lighter than usual - mostly playlist updates and info about a new Spartan Assault feature - but there are also some answers to community questions, and some cool Adrift screens. Go read! (As always, there's a copy in our Halo Bulletin Archive, too.) (Louis Wu 16:35:38 UTC) (permalink)
Rogue's Cortana Suit - Behind the Scenes Robowski shot us a note about Th3 Rogue, who put together a 'behind the scenes' vid showing how she created her Cortana costume - fun to watch. It's not particularly SFW - there's footage of what got on her body after the suit came off - but it's pretty cool to see how much time goes into this sort of thing. Check it out!
(Louis Wu 16:25:40 UTC) (permalink)
Halo | Transformers: Age of Extinction Mashup Gugga Leunnam sent word that he's got another mashup for you - this one capitalizes on the 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' trailer. I was actually surprised by how well some of the bits worked. Really nicely done! There's even a poster to celebrate. (Louis Wu 16:17:22 UTC) (permalink)

I should have embedded 'Siege of Madrigal' It's not really Halo news, since it doesn't change anything related to the game or its music... but it's pretty big news, at least in my world, and it's certainly Halo-related: Marty O'Donnell no longer works for Bungie. More details can be found in this post on our Destiny site. (Louis Wu 19:11:53 UTC) (permalink)

Going... going... gone. Reach's Emile plays a larger-than-usual role in the latest Fails of the Weak (AH.com | YouTube). That guy should spend less time polishing his knife and more time avoiding out-of-the-park swings. Thanks, Nikko B201. (Louis Wu 20:49:48 UTC) (permalink)

100 not out Rockslider continues his habit of pushing Halo glitches to their extremes; for his 100th video, he decided to mess with the Spirit dropship, in an attempt to keep it from its normal path. He's successful - to a point. (The end of the video shows some really nice flying.) Check it out!

Halo 3 ODST - Sword Slaughter Hey, it's Thursday, time for a little catch-up! We got a note a couple of days ago from Gamecheat - he modded Halo 3: ODST to allow the Rookie to wield an Energy Sword. Pretty satisfying! (Might have been moreso without infinite ammo and invulnerability... but hey. Sometimes you just gotta cut a Grunt.)

Halo TV series - maybe behind schedule? Running REALLY low on free time - but there's enough to slip you the info that mikimarquez shot our way: it looks like the Spielberg-helmed Halo TV project announced last year has been postponed a bit - according to Deadline, it's still in the 'deal-making phase'. No word on what that might mean for the projects that came AFTER it - like the recently-announced Ridley Scott-produced series. (Louis Wu 23:55:27 UTC) (permalink)

Pfft. He thinks he found all the cameras. Once again, we're late posting news of the Halo Bulletin - which is sad, because it's a great read this week. Word of the Bravo-Cam, descriptions of Matchmaking updates, the skinny on a new Mega Bloks release (and giveaway!), news about Spartan Assault, an interview with a community Forger, and a dozen grenade screenshots fill this issue. You can, as always, read it in our Halo Bulletin Archive, if you so desire. (Louis Wu 17:41:31 UTC) (permalink)
Travelogue Quagga released Travelogue - a snapshot, as he says, of his time in Halo 3 and Reach. It's not a montage, in the normal sense of the word; it's not a collection of incredible shots and plays... it's a collection of moments, some good, some bad, some both. It's a fifteen minute summary of his time in these games, and if you're like me, watching it will make you want to fire up your Xbox. Go enjoy it.

And a t-shirt. Package price - $35. (Remember - the Vinyl LE, all by itself, was $75 when it was released.) Not too shabby! (Louis Wu 16:40:47 UTC) (permalink)
It's been a good ten-year run... FyreWulff pointed out that Gamespy is shutting down its game hosting service before June of this year - this means that online players of Halo PC (and Halo CE) will no longer have a centralized place to find games to jump into. New Video Project Surfaces Interesting thread on our forum last night - thanks to Grizzlei for kicking it off. Looks like a new live-action series is ramping up - it will be produced by Ridley Scott (among others), and directed by Sergio Mimica-Gezzan (best known for his work on Battlestar Galactica). You can read about it at Variety, The Wrap, and IGN, and likely a few dozen other outlets. Interestingly enough, a rumored project from a couple of months ago (that was then debunked, according to the Escapist), might have been this same deal. (Louis Wu 18:47:24 UTC) (permalink)

Me. Inside Your Phone. Now. Revenant1988 shared an article from Engadget confirming Cortana for Windows Phone, Microsoft's answer to Siri. Arithmomaniac chimed in and pointed out that The Verge posted an in-depth article about Cortana. The most relevant information is that 343i and Jen Taylor helped work on Cortana. There is also a video walkthrough of Cortana that shows off what is possible - the synthesized voice isn't that convincing, but the dialogue Jen Taylor recorded is a nice touch. It does seem that Microsoft plans to keep working with Jen on future Cortana developments. Neat! (colindosaj 20:49:45 UTC) (permalink)

The Halo Community, and its influence - one fan's view Hey, let's do a little catch-up. It's been a busy week (and yes, it really did just start). A few days ago, Gagnon 30 wrote an article looking at the "Halo Community" (it's in quotes because in this context it's pretty hard to define), and what they want - or, more accurately, what they SAY they want. Or what SOME of them say they want. Hmm... these qualifiers could become a pretty deep rabbit hole if I'm not careful... Anyway, Gagnon 30 has a pretty strong view about this subject, and you can read his thoughts (and comment on the article) at Teabag or Die. (Louis Wu 18:30:03 UTC) (permalink)
