Dan Baker - Halo Cornucopia

You might remember Dan Baker from his very cool Pillar of Autumn diorama, or his (sadly offline) Halo Comic - but he's back with three (count 'em, three!) new bits of Halo coolness. (This page went live in late January, 2011.)

Marine Kids "Since I have a full-sized R2-D2, my two boys have wanted to go as Jedi for Halloween, but this past year, they wanted to go as UNSC Marines. For most of October, I was in the garage scratch-building two kid-sized Marine armor kits. I made up the pieces as I went along, using screenshots for reference. The armor was constructed totally from cardboard, then coated in fiberglass resin and painted and weathered. I didn't quite finish as far as I'd have liked by Halloween, but the younger one never even knew. I re-painted a couple of the Toys r Us guns from a couple years ago to look like MA5B Assault Rifles as well."

Spike Grenade "I wanted to make something special for my little brother for Christmas. I went through a few ideas, and finally ended up spending about three weeks making him a full-sized Spike Grenade. It's about 3 feet tall, made of PVC construction, handle wrapped in real leather, and the blades are actually 3mm aluminum- and are very sharp. I slushed resin around the inside of the top and bottom sections to give it a good weighty feel, so the whole thing weighs about 10 pounds. The only things I left off (for time's sake) were the routed details on the top section, and the four spikes at the bottom. Even still, we stabbed our hands and arms multiple times on Christmas morning. And yes, my mom freaked. :)"

Metal 'Fight For Her' Sign "I was looking around the Net for a decent version of that old poster found in the Pillar of Autumn. There wasn't one. I'm a graphic designer at a sign shop, so I decided to make myself something special. I made a high-res version of that poster, designing it side-by-side with the screenshot. The poster was conveniently put on a grid bulletin board in the game, so I estimated that it came out to be 15"x24" when printed full size. I printed my high-res version on vinyl, laminated, and mounted it to 1mm aluminum, so it's kinda like a vintage metal sign. I had sold a couple other metal signs, so I made a few extra of these to shop out through Etsy.com. I only made six extras, but if there's interest, I'll definitely make more!"
