Guns on the Jeep

Recently, Erbium-=SUN=- wrote to us and said this:

I`ve seen the Geforce2 Demo movie... There you can see a gatling gun mounted on the jeep and not a machine gun. Maybe you know it already but maybe not. So one is clear, it is not in your FAQ. I hope you aren't busy and will make an up-date soon.

Now, here's what he's talking about. The jeep originally had one gun, a machine gun. Its barrel was supported by a structure that contained a pair of rods. These rods stopped just short of the end of the barrel. This was the gun that had always been seen mounted on the back of the jeep... until the advent of the 'E3 graphics'.

At this point, a blast shield was added, and the machine gun had been swapped for a rocket launcher. It wasn't clear if this was a permanent swap... or if the jeep would be available with both weapons as options.

In mid-May, though, Blues News released a screenshot that contained a new-style jeep firing a machine gun from behind a blast shield... and it was assumed that the rocket launcher and the gun would be interchangeable. Our FAQ reflects this assumption.

However, as the note above suggests, a new, third gun appears in the nVidia ad. This gun more closely resembles the original 'minigun' that the Marine used to carry (but that hasn't been seen since the graphics overhaul). It has three barrels, and fires from all three.

With hindsight, then, is the gun in the Blues News shot this same gatling gun... or is it the old-style machine gun (single barrel) with a blast shield? Thanks for bringing this point up, Erbium!
