Chapter two:
Orbital M.A.C. platform Malta in orbit around Earth,
October 20th, 2252, military calendar
1443 time
Linda ran into the firing control room and quickly cleared the room of the three grunts in there. Advance scouting party the rest will be here soon she thought to herself.
"Set up those blockades and arm those motion sensor mines" she ordered to the group of ten marines coming in behind her, the rest had died on the way down when a group of Bugs ambushed them.
After about three minuets of waiting the door burned red hot then melted away at the core leaving a gaping hole big enough to fit three Elites side by side. Three shots rang out and three grunts fell holes spewing translucent blue blood onto the deck, then an Elite came and chucked a plasma grenade and it adjured it self to Linda's helmet blocking off her view. With her adrenalin pumping everything slowed down to snail pace while she unclasped her helmet and threw it back towards the door thumping the Elite in the head with a dull kwathump, the dazed Elite took a second to recover from the shock of 10 kilograms of solid metal hitting it on the head, but that was one second to slow and the grenade detonated enveloping the Elite in the blast and then there was nothing left. After the initial shock of losing the forward party the Covenant regrouped and sent in at least 20 drones to harass the marines while more slipped in under the cover. A look to her right made Linda see three marines fall in quick succession forcing Linda to call a retreat. She ran to the door and while see was waiting for the marine to catch up she saw the aliens pull in a purple spiky thing that with a quick search on the navy computers it turned out to be a bomb equivalent to a nuke, she shut the door and turned around formulating a plan in her head. She saw that there was only four more marine left.
"We can't wait out here because they have the bomb they know we will have to go back in there" said Linda to what passed for the marine leadership.
"Well we reload our guns and get the hell back in there" replied the Sergent.
"Just wait I have to send a message to Will." Said Linda accessing the com channels.
"Their was too many of them they broke through our lines they've bought a bomb with them and armed it." Then Linda thought that Will would proberly come down here and said "no you get off this station I'll do what I can against the bomb." Then turning to the Sergent, "Ok let's go"
Linda fired her sniper rifle removing the head of a veteran grunt, one of the rookies took one look at the decapitated corpse and ran away only to be killed by some marines hiding around the other corner. They moved into the firing control room and opened fire on the large collection of aliens there. They had dug in well, they even used there own dead as shields and blockades. And in the corner of her eye Linda saw a bright flash of light and realised that it was the Athens exploding, she went around the corner and silently grieved for her fellow Spartan Fred was onboard while his presence had faded from her systems, she turned that grief into cold hard hatred and a vow to get revenge on all her brothers and sisters in the Spartan program. She rounded the corner and fired two shots in quick succession from her sniper rifle and removed another Elite from the battle. A small check confirmed that she was out of ammo so she took a SMG from a dead O.D.S.T lying on the ground.
A scream from behind made her turn around and she saw that all four of her marines had been sliced and diced by the last Elite and it was wielding a glowing hot energy sword. Linda rushed forward which was the last thing the Elite expected and charged straight into it Linda then proceeded to apply pressure to the Elites had until it dropped the sword. The Elite kneed her in the gut forcing her of the ledge Linda grabbed the Elite as well and they both fell. By some measure of luck they had fallen down right next door to where the M.A.C. rounds loaded into the cannon and from there on in it was a violent struggle for each fighter to gain the upper hand. Then Linda got the Elite in the neck and squizzed hard till the Elites eyes nearly popped out and she heard a crunch as the soft bone surrounding its neck caved in. Before the Elite could die she chucked the Elite into the firing tube and before the Elite had time to react she had sealed it shut saying.
"Get the hell away from earth, you split jawed freak." She then hit the fire button and the Elite was blasted into space at over 300 thousand km per second.
Linda ran to the bomb and had one look at it and thought I'm not disarming this without help. She contacted Cortana and asked how to disarm the bomb, the reply was,
"Wait a bit I've got to adjust the carios firing angle. Now to the bomb place your hand on the glowing panel and push the centre sphere hard. Linda rushed to do it and just as her hand hit the bomb it grew extremely hot and then exploded in a magnificent flash of plasma blue and in the nano second that Linda was alive she thought…..
Dang it.
