7:19 PM over New York City, 5-18-03

"Everyone ready?" Sergeant Happel announced.
"Sir yes sir!" all of the marines in Pelican Dropship 033 rang out.
"Good," The Sergeant turned back to the pilot.
"Sir, everything down there is all fricked up, thermals are reading Marines, but I can't get a decent signal," the pilot said.
"Well, keep trying." Happel turned back to the men, "Alright! We got a special assignment for ya'll!! Turns out that a new Spartan II was heading down to New York a few hours ago. Your mission is to find him, arm him, and get somewhere where he can kick some Covenant ass! Alright?"
"Sir yes sir!" they rang again.
The dropship swooped down into a ruined stadium of some sort, and the Marines rushed out of the ship, rifles in hand. They ran up to an entry gate and half of the unit got down onto their knees, the others moved forward, crouching.
"Intel says that he is 600 meters from our current position!" The unit leader, Johnson, shouted out. The left flank of Marines ran out into the street, and gave the all clear. The remaining Marines ran out into the street and looked up. At least 15 Covenant Bandits were lowering down into the area. The Marines tensed as the sound off safeties being clicked off filled the air.
The doors on the side of the Bandits opened, at Brutes and Grunts rushed out from the sides. Gun smoke filled the air as the front row of Marines fired off into the mass of aliens. The second and third row of Marines fell back, and began creating cover out of cars, and turned over walls. When the Marines fell back to reload, the Brutes rushed the Marines as the Grunts provided cover fire.
Two Marines, Opie and Wolfgang retreated backward into the general direction of the Spartan soldier. Opie stopped abruptly, he had run into something.
" What's the matter man! We got to go!" Wolfgang shouted. He looked up and saw Opie backed into a Hunter. Wolfgang rolled out of the way, as the Hunter crushed Opie's tiny body with a melee attack. Wolfgang put the crosshairs of his rifle onto the Hunter's head, and began to fire hopelessly.
Suddenly, the hot, orange blood of the Hunter spilled onto Wolfgang's face. The Hunter fell a few feet away from Wolfgang, and the Spartan warrior stepped up.
"You boys better watch were you're going next time," the Spartan said, and held out a hand for Wolfgang to help himself up with.
"Sir, may I ask what you are carrying?" Wolfgang straightened out his, muscular, lean body, and saluted.
The Spartan smacked down Wolfgang's hand, "Boy! You better watch where you're saluting me! If a Brute sees us we're both cooked! And to answer your question, I'm carrying my pistol, why?"
"I have special orders to deliver weapons to you!"
"Well, then, hand them over," a giant smile spread itself across the Spartan's covered face, "show me where your platoon is."
The Marine pulled off his backpack and tore it open. He removed a battle rifle, 10 magazines for them, and two sub-machine guns, and three magazines for each. "Here you go."
"Are these new?"
"Yeah, they were on their way to Reach from Earth, right before the Covenant hit."
"Well, show me were your men are."

A few minutes passed, and they were back at the battlefield, the Marines had prevailed, and they were checking the bodies for survivors, or possums.
"Nice to see you Chief!" one Marine echoed.
"Thank the Almighty you're here!" another said.
The Spartan warrior stepped up to announce something, "Let's check for civilian survivors."

10:45PM, New York City 20 miles from stadium, 5-18-03
The Marines approached a small block of housing, and one man began to weep.
"What's the matter man?" another Marine asked his buddy.
"That's my house," the man pointed to a ruined home with a woman holding two infants burnt a crisp in the corner.
"Ahh, shit, sorry man," the Marine said and stepped away from his friend.
The weeping Marine ran up to his family, and looked them over, then looked up to the sky, and shouted at nothing, "You bastards! I'll kill every last one of you!"
The Spartan, now called Chief, walked over to the man.
"We have four Covenant snipers aiming at us right now, if you want to give them a free shot that is your choice," Chief stood up and joined the rest of the group.
The Marine stood from his family, and raised his gun. He searched the windows for snipers, and saw at least two of them. He then fired his sub-machine gun hopelessly into the air, and screamed. The snipers fell from the buildings, and the man, dropped to the ground. The rest of the Marines ran up to him, and saw that he had been shot in the stomach.
"Do we have any medics!?" Chief asked.
"Not for a belly shot sir," the Marine looked away and vomited.
"I killed them," the man said, blood erupting from his mouth.
"I saw you," Chief said back to him.
"Do you think they killed my family?" more blood.
Chief thought about the man's pain, and knew those Covenant hadn't done it, "Yeah."
"Thanks Chief."
