Dressed all in green
and frozen, you are the last
of a slain tribe of soldiers
given over to the covenant.
Only you are left to fight
the great halo,

the vast, technological halo
who, over lush green
terrain sets the stage of the fight
until one race last
stands. The covenant
are everywhere and you hear the soldiers

scream in terror, everywhere the soldiers
are dying, one by one falling as Halo
waits in patience, as the Covenant
takes care of its business. Green beams
fly in a raging fury until at last
no one is left to fight.

The birds twitter and sing, as you fight
your way over the next ridge, looking for soldiers
any survivors that make these last
days worth living. But only Halo
is there in the distance. The green
valley empty, yet full of dead marines and covenant.

You pick over what there is to have amoungst covenant
carcass and mangled marine whose fight
was no contest, and though you wear green
as they do, you're not just 'one of the soldiers'.
Your computer explains that halo
must be stopped, or the forces won't last

much longer. After the last
dropship comes, the 'mercy' of the covenant,
they who worship the great Halo
and they who live must fight.
The final group of soldiers
spreads out, ready to die, and dressed in green.

Quick reflex, explosions, he wages his last woeful
fight
in these beaten hills, as soldiers and covenant alike
fall in agony, and Halo laughs with it's green smile.
