So lay down, the threat is real.
When his sight, goes red again.
Quite possibly the best advice ever given by anyone.

Jake stepped over some more bodies as he entered Traverse City, at one point this city had had both economic power, but also military power. Traverse City became the lead testing facility for SPARTANS and Marines a like. They offered special weapons training for Marines, and special vehicle training for SPARTANs.

He began to search for the MC, but he almost knew that he had fought his way through and left the area. He then searched for food, or anything of that matter, and found nothing.

Jake cursed under his breath, and then turned around, and headed back off towards Cadillac. Of course he noticed the bodies, the numbers seemed to increase every time he passed the area. Most of them were friendlies, but occasionally he saw some Covey bodies down on the ground too. As he neared the small town of Cadillac, his stomach began to churn. The smoke rising from the city didn't help his hope that the city may still be there.

When he stepped into the first building, he almost hurdled. Then, a little distance down the road, at Nicole's apartment, he found a message on her tape recorder going, stopping, rewinding and playing again.

He pressed the button, and sighed.

"Jake," the message skipped, and Jake's heart may of skipped a few beats too, "can't- don't come ho- we can't- fight- off- leave- forge- don't worry- I'll be fi- it's oka-"

Jake's eyes watered, but his SPARTAN soul kept him from crying, instead of getting sad the SPARTANS were programmed to get angry, very angry.

Jake soon began to feel his heart burn, it was like it was on fire. Then, his sight became altered, it began to flicker from normal to something much worse. He started seeing red distortion all over things, and he felt some kind of sickening, yet powerful air come over him.

"Hello?" a gruntish voice called out form outside her room, spent shells lying on the floor.

Jake walked up to the door, quietly, and put his hand on the knob. Just as he began to feel it turn, he swung the door open, and grabbed the Grunt by his collar area, and shoved him against the wall, far off the ground.

"Which one of you bastards killed her?" Jake thrust him into the wall once more.

"What?" the Grunt squeaked and kicked, but to no success.

"Who?" Jake roared.

The Grunt let out some alien name and then shut his mouth.

"No, keep talking," Jake felt a sick grin fall over his face.

"You look different from the other one..." the Grunt managed to speak.

"What one!" Jake demanded.

"The green one!" the Grunt kicked some more.

"Why do I look different?" Jake pondered.

"Because you're vis-," the Grunt thought a moment, "Your face shield, it's red."

"What?" Jake slammed into the wall, killing him.

Jake let the body slide to the floor, and walked away weapon drawn, his anger still being fed. He entered the street, and found cover, surveying the Covey's down the road.

Two Elites, Six Jackals, Fourteen Grunts, and Three Brutes. Jake made sure his weapon was full, and had one in the chamber. He then aimed, and waited for one of the Jackals to make a mistake.

The 9.6mm round ripped easily through the Jackal's head, and landed itself in an Elite's leg, taking him to the ground. The Covey's began to spread out and fire, but Jake was to busy shooting them to care. The Grunts went down first, then the Brutes, as the Jackals backed up against a wall and shielded themselves. He then gunned down the Elites, losing his shield in the progress. He then threw a grenade into the bunch of Jackals, and as they scattered, he picked them off.

Jake rushed the battlefield screaming with rage, then he fell atop one of the Elite corpses, and began to interrogate it. He then tried to read its nameplate, but it didn't look anything like what the Grunt had said, he slammed the beast's head into the dirt, and went to the next, and found his man.

"Why did you do it?" Jake punched it across its face.

"How could you kill an innocent person!" Jake was mad and confused, his head began to hurt, but let pain be relieved by a familiar hand.

"It's okay, I told you I'd be fine," she laid her head down on his shoulder.

"Nicole?" He turned, regular color returning to his visor.

"Yeah, it's me," she gave him a hug.

"Oh," he felt the tears rise again, but not even a SPARTAN could cry.

"It's okay, I survived," she looked into his visor.

"What about everyone else?" he stood.

"Most of them are dead, except that exMarine he made it, in the tower sniping."

"Oh, I see," Jake straightened out.

He looked up at the sky and saw a Covenant control ship towering above them.

He wanted to kill both the Covenant, and all of the infected Marines. The Trinity would be the next to go.
