Blazon Path pt 1
Tim woke up. That in itself was a surprise. He was lying face down in on the floor of the cafeteria. He smiled to himself. He'd obviously drunk more than he intended. He tried to get up, but someone behind him roughly pushed him back down. "Get off," he mumbled and rolled over onto his back to see who was restraining him. The sight that met his eyes was enough to stop him breathing. Splattered in blood and holding a glowing plasma rifle was a blue armored covenant elite. Suddenly wide awake Tim looked round and saw human bodies scattered amongst a huge number of empty casings and upturned tables. He looked back at the elite. This one enemy couldn't have done all that. The covenant had come in force. "Shit," he muttered. He was trying to think of something to do when he caught sight of some movement behind the elite. A marine was slowly stalking forwards with his combat knife raised. Tim grinned, this elite was dead. Unfortunately when the marine was about three meters away his foot hit an empty casing causing it to roll across the floor. The elite turned aimed his plasma rifle at the marine. Tim did the only thing he could and kicked it in the back. It's shot missed wide and the marine leapt forward screaming and buried his knife in it's shoulder. The elite roared and ripped out the knife then back handed the marine who slumped to the ground. "No," screamed Tim and pulled out his pistol. He emptied it into the beasts head but its body shield sprang into view and the rounds didn't penetrate. Tim got up and started to back away. The elite turned and dropped its rifle, drawing its energy sword. Tim started to back away a lot faster when suddenly he tripped. He fell and his hand touched something metallic. After glancing at what was in his hand he looked back at the elite and smiled. "You are so dead" he said. The elite stopped. It couldn't understand the words but it recognized the confidence in Tim's voice. It spun round expecting to see marine reinforcements flooding into the room. But there were none. When it looked back Tim was standing up and holding a shotgun. "Bye," he grunted and pulled the trigger. The Elite erupted into a cloud of purple blood and gore. Tim sighed and dropped the now empty shotgun. A sudden moan from the other marine brought Tim back to reality. He ran over and helped him to his feet. He was badly shaken but apart from a lump on the back of his head he was fine. Tim looked at him. "Follow me," he said clearly. The marine was too groggy to speak and nodded. Tim walked over to the door. Took a deep breath and opened it. The corridor was empty. They moved through base to the armory. There were bodies everywhere but no sign of survivors. The armory was intact with a decent supply of weapons and ammo plus some sets of armor. Tim ignored the standard marine armor and walked over to where the ODST armor was stored. Slipping it on, he fitted on his helmet with a hiss. Then he walked over to the weapons rack. Unfortunately there were no shotguns so he took a battle rifle and submachine gun. Something caught his eye. Looking down he saw a rack of silencers. He took two, one for his M7 and the other for his BR. The marine took a silenced M7 and a rocket launcher. Tim swore. He'd missed that. He banished all resentment and walked over to the external door. He opened it slowly and looked out. A few meters away a group of jackals were hiding behind their shields. He looked round to the right and froze. There was a Wraith shelling the main part of the complex. He clicked he mic. The marine responded. Tim pointed out the wraith. "Take that out after I dispose of these jackals. The marine nodded and shouldered the launcher. Tim took out his M7 and stepped outside. He opened up and the jackals went down in a spray of blood. There was a whoosh next to him and wraith exploded. He heard faint cheering come from the main complex. He got on the net and said "anyone here get to the armory, we need back up. There's only two of us and I've got a visual of six elites heading our way." Almost immediately he got a reply. "Negative we've got hunters. I repeat we've got hunters. Sorry" Tim swore and signed off. He looked at the marine. Right lets set up shop." As an after thought he added "I'm Tim by the way." "Alex" replied marine drawing his M7. Tim looked around the armory for something to make a barrier with. That was when he saw the 50 cal. Wait here he said and disappeared back into the armory. He came back with a M98 50 cal machine gun with a stand and several belts of ammo. He set it up and was trying to fit the ammo in when Alex pushed him out the way and said. This is my department. Alex sat weapon and deftly fitted the belt in. he took aim and opened fire on the closest elite. It went down before it even knew what had hit it. The machine gun made short work of the five remaining elites before Alex turned it and raked fire along the front of the main complex taking out the covenant that were causing the marines in there a head ache. The weapon ran out of ammo and Alex was about to reload when Tim stopped him. "Come one lets deal with the hunters" he said. A short while later Tim and Alex entered the main complex. They could hear marines shouting plus the distinctive sound of the Hunters energy cannons. They ran towards the sound and found themselves in an open air storage area. The hunters were easy to see. Their hulking 8 foot forms towered over everything. Tim looked at Alex and nodded. Alex fired and the hunters disappeared in a ball of flame. A marine sergeant ran over. "Good to see you" he said "we've got to hold here, a pelican his coming to pick us in twelve minutes. Once we get the doors welded shut we should be fine. Tim nodded. "Is that all lieutenant" asked the sergeant. Tim frowned, luckily his visor was down and the sergeant couldn't see the gesture and glanced at his shoulder. Sure enough there were lieutenant bars on his shoulder. "Yes that will be all" he said. He decided it was better to pretend that he was in fact a lieutenant. He'd seen the look of relief on the sergeants face when he'd someone had come to take charge and realized that the man was close to cracking. He flicked on his helmets external speakers. "Right" he said "let's get these doors sealed and blocked off." "Yes sir," replied the marines In a short while they were sealed of and blocked with cargo modules. The marines relaxed some lit cigarettes, others went for a piss. That was when the first drop pod landed amongst them......
