This is based on a true story, it has been written to honor those who served in Somalia. However, it has been Halonized for the pleasure of the viewers.

Mike Durant pilot of the Pelican codenamed Super Six Four waited helplessly in the cockpit. He looked to his right and immediately looked away Ray Frank his co-pilot had been knocked over the head with a piece of debris. His eyes staring blankly his body unmoving, Mike Durant then came to the harsh realization that some of the men in his pelican might have died in the crash. He tried to remember the occurrences before the crash; he seemed to remember a rocket clipping the back of his bird. Then the next thing he knew his bird was nose down in the middle of an occupied Covenant city. He tried to pull himself out of the Pelican but he quickly realized his leg and back were both broken. He would have to wait until someone could come to his aid. He began to work to get the Pelican's radio back in working condition, when he heard a bang on the side of his pelican. "Friendlys." It was the simple most relieving word he had ever heard the rescue convoy had finally arrived. Two men, they looked to be UNSC Elite snipers judging by their insignia and gear, ran up to him guns leveled. "How bad?" One of the snipers asked Mike Durant.

"Well my legs broken and my back feels kind of weird," Mike said motioning to his arm and back as he mentioned them.

"We got to get you out of here buddy," came the cool reply from one of the snipers. Mike didn't know either of the snipers by name but he recognized their faces. One of the snipers grabbed him by the torso while the other steadied his leg. The two snipers took Durant over to some cover putting his back to the wall of a nearby shed. He was approximately fifteen meters away from the tail of the bird. Durant admired the snipers intelligent and efficient placement, from here Durant could protect the entire right side of the bird. One of the snipers handed Durant a M6D pistol and loaded a full mag into it. "Any grunts come around these corners you watch our backs." One of the snipers explained to Durant.

"Hey where's the rescue squad?" Durant asked, he was getting tired of sitting here but he thought they were just clearing room for the Warthogs or clearing a place for a bird to land.

"We're it." Came the reply. Durant thought he could here a slight quake in the voice of the sniper. That's when Durant realized for the first time their was no rescue squad, just two snipers. Durant unstrapped his helmet and took off his gloves, if they wanted a fight he would give them one.

Meanwhile the two snipers Sergeant Randy Shughart and Master Sergeant Gary Gordon struggle to keep back the mob of grunts. Shughart leveled his Silenced S2 AM Sniper Rifle and fired off two quick rounds into a grunt that ran at him with a plasma rifle. He fired off a few more shots at the angry mob, while he was faced with what was close to suicide he kept his cool. He turned around to check on his partner Master Sergeant Gary Gordon. Shughart held back the crowd on the other side of he bird until he heard a short cry of pain from behind him. He turned around to see Gordy slumped down plasma had engulfed his head, his blood staining his clothes. Shughart knew he would have to keep his cool if he was going to make it out alive. He resisted the urge to scream and lifted the weapon from his friend's cold and lifeless hands. He took it over to where the pilot Mike Durant sat and handed it to him, leaving him with only, 'Gordys gone I'll be outside." With that he went back outside four shots remaining in his gun.

Shughart made his way back to the position he had taken up on the left side of the Pelican. He had exhausted the ammunition from his S2 AM and had picked up the M6D pistol from the dead co-pilot. He shot one grunt to his left before taking overheated plasma in his right shoulder. His reflexes slowed a bit as he turned and took out the grunt on the other side. When he turned he was once again shot from behind this time his injuries were too bad for him to react quick enough to save himself. A grunt charged in and fired off four shots all hitting squarely on the sniper. He let out a cry as he slumped down next to his fallen comrade. The mob of grunts then proceeded to take all the UNSC forces out of the Pelican strip them down and parade them through the streets.

Mike Durant watched in horror as his comrades were stripped by the mob of animals. He was too injured to run and without ammunition he had no way to fight. He put the empty weapon on his chest crossed his arms and waited for what he knew was coming. He had seen what a mob of wild grunts from this are could do, needless to say he knew he probably wouldn't live to see his family. One of the grunts peeked its head over the Pelican; it saw Durant and made a cry in a language Durant couldn't understand. Then like a swarm of bees thousand of the grunts were upon him in seconds. One of them hit him with its gun making his face bleed and causing giant bruises to form. For the few seconds the grunts were on him Mike Durant couldn't feel a thing. The last thing he saw was a large hunter bound up and fire off his fuel rod cannon. He said something in the peculiar Hunter language, from what Durant could decipher it was something about alive. That was the last thing Durant knew before he blacked out...

(The two snipers Sergeant Randy Shughart and Master Sergeant Gary Gordon are the only people to receive the Medal of Honor post Vietnam.)

(Mike Durant was released after eleven days of being capture by Mohammed Farrah Aidid. He lives to this day because of the bravery of the two snipers sent to aid him.)

(The remaining crew of Super Six Four died in the tragic crash. They are dead but not forgotten.)

(Hope you liked this it's a rough draft short story preview of a longer story soon to come to a theatre near you. Ask Knightmare bet you he won't like this story.)
