Watch out!" yelled Corporal Jones. BOOOM!!!! A loud explosion went off as the covenant plasma mortar landed. The marines of the 501st had been on Eridanus 9 for a long time since the covenant took the main planet of the system. They where running low on just about everything, ammo, food, medical supplies. They where barely scraping by the only good thing was that the new Spartan 5s had made a hell drop onto the planet, they where the only reason why they where still here. The new Spartans quick thinking and considerable training had been of the most help, and there new weapons and armor. The new weapons where a more powerful sniper rifle with a 100 x zoom that could hit targets as far away as the computer controlled scope could see. The rifle scopes also had target identification and auto lock which enabled the Spartans to have more accuracy. The other new weapons where new assault rifles, C90 explosive which could blow up a city block, a quick lock rocket launcher and a portable, light and extremely durable 50 cal machine gun. The new armor alone (without shields) had the power to sustain as much attack as the old mark 4 armor and shields. The new mark 8 armor shields where 5 times as powerful as the armor (without shields). So the new Spartans Phil, Ben, Sean where almost invincible and with the built in cloak shield they where the best ever Spartans.
When the first covenant mortar landed killing 2 marine guards. Jones (distantly related to Private Jones from the 1st halo) knew they where in trouble. The covies had been stocking them for days. The Spartans would usually step back a few hundred yards to practice the shooting on the covenant grunts." CRACK, CRACK" a sniper fired twice and Jones heard four squeals. "Wait four squeals, o the covenant must be lining up for the snipers ha-ha" thought Jones " ahhhhhh" screamed a marine then an explosion. He had been hit by a Needler. Over the command freq Jones heard "corporal the covies are coming in fast I count 100 of the *********. You better find some cover fast I estimate thell be on your position in 20 minutes." Yelled a Spartan.
Since Jones's men where in a bombed out forest cover would be easy to find. They could pull dead trees to cover the craters and they could put 15 minute quickcrete to make bunkers. The Spartan that had stayed with the marines had also been carrying the 50 cal machine gun would use the bunker. The marines quickly dragged trees to cover the shell holes which would double as bunkers. The marine mortar men had set up there mortars behind the bunker. The 90 battle hardened ODSTs where more than match for the inexperienced covenant troops. Plus the ODSTs had three Spartans which would further tip the hand to the humans. This wouldn't be a battle, it would be a slaughter.
The last two Spartans came in hot. They where being followed by 100 covenant troops. On the Covenant side there where grunts, elites, jackals commanded by five brutes.
The brutes charged and where quickly cut down with out even coming close
He covenant troops where more experienced than thought and really numbered 200. Just as things where getting desperate an unexpected call came over the command frequency.
"This is fleet admiral Rodgers to any UNSC forces in the system we have beaten the covies back, but before we did they launched a massive force at Eridanus 9 be advised over"
UNSC Fleet this is corporal Jones we are located at Eridanus 9 and are under heavy attack we would be grate full if you could send help over (background sounds: screams
Shotgun blasts, rapid fire from weapons).
"We copy Corporal we are sending men over there to aid over"

The as soon as he got off the radio he heard many aircraft. Then he saw them Pelicans, bombers, and Longswords. Then came the napalm. The marines had set up an emergency fire proof shelter in case of napalm. The marines rushed over to the shelter and closed and bolted the door. An immense heat washed over them as the napalm incinerated everything. Nothing was left as proof to the great battle. In a matter of minutes the napalm burned out. The pelicans landed and unloaded there cargo. 30 tanks, 20 warthogs, and 10 gauss warthogs. Then came the marines, all of them where hell jumpers armed with an assortment of weapons most of the 200 where armed with battle rifles 10 had snipers, and15 had rockets. The first marine out was a general Called Trigger head. "Corporal I am assuming command and you are to be my second in command. Are orders are to wipe out as many covies as possible. We will have air support and plenty of reinforcements. There are four specweap and specforce units out there dismantling key enemy targets. Are first objective is to proceed to grid 5 by 14 and establish a base of operations so we can land are small Air force so they can reload and gas up. There is a engineering wing of small ships to bring the prefab parts. They will also deploy ground and air defense turrets to protect the base and special weapons and equipment. Understood. Stated the general
" sir yes sir " replied Jones
The task force set out to complete their objectives all the time unknown to them they were being watched by a pair of covenant stealth ships which where recording and sending every thing they said and did to the secret base at the moon of Eridanus 2.
The Commander of the system had made it look like he had been defeated. He had told his new stealth ships (normal fleet ships with stealth generators) to release spare parts and explosive objects and cloaked and retreated to their cloaked base. The Commander was a military genius. He had organized the assault on Reach and most of the inner colonies
victories. He had been awarded many medals of courage and honor by the high prophets.
He was considered the best of the best of the best .After he got the info about task fore alpha he thought about what to do about them. He decided to let them be then hit them with overwhelming numbers and airpower, but the orbiting ships could be a problem with getting reinforcements to the attack. He had heard about the humans fighting with unmatchable ferocity when over whelmed He didn't want to challenge them until they where to comfortable.
