March 15, 2552 1800 Hours:
From: Colonel R. Polanto
To: Commander M. Wilson, UNSC Frigate Argos
[Start Transmission]
Commander, when the Covenant landed arrived at Corinth, I knew we were finished. There were few ships guarding the planet, and they were destroyed by the Covenant. Surprisingly, the Covenant landed ground troops; their intention appears to be the capture of the planet, not the destruction. The Covenant swiftly captured London III and other important civilian and economic targets. I have pulled the remainder of my forces to the UNSC base near Mount [omitted for security reasons], and we have been attacked by the Covenant three times. Commander, send reinforcements as soon as possible, I'm not sure we can hold the line much longer.
[End Transmission]

Dear Jack,
The Covies are preparing another attack, I doubt we can hold the base much longer. We have no air support, Warthogs or tanks, and we only got 23 men. Jack, I've seen too much of this war. Humanity can't win, how can we defeat the Covenant. I'm tired of it all, packing up the lockers of fallen squad mates, watching planets get glassed, seeing thousands massacred by hordes of aliens. I know I may be betraying everyone, Earth, all of humanity and you, by younger brother, but I've made the right decision in my heart.
Your Brother,
Michael Burton

Michael silently crept out of the base, glancing over his shoulder, when he was out of the base he let out an audible sigh of relief. He was out! Burton moved through the field, hiding behind any concealment. If he was caught, it was all over, the UNSC treated deserters with as much sympathy as a pack of grunts.
Stes 'Renamee watched the lone human approaching, were the filthy primates sending a spy? Pathetic, the spy wasn't even camouflaged, and there was something suspicious about the human's behavior. He turned to the unggoy next to him,
"Find Field Master 'Keflee, I've spotted a human."
It wasn't long before 'Keflee arrived. 'Keflee was a veteran warrior, an expert with an energy blade and a cunning commander.
"What have you found?"
'Renamee bowed, "I've located a lone human," he clicked his mandibles together, "my soldiers could do with a bit of sport."
'Keflee laughed, "You are bloodthirsty, Stes. But I want him alive, he may have information for us." 'Keflee turned and walked away, "Bring him to my quarters."
'Renamee keyed his communicator, "Send unggoy and kig-yar to surround the human, but whomever kills him will be slain."

Michael spotted the jackals and grunts running towards him, swiftly he threw his pistol into the brush and stood with his hands over his head. He was pushed towards the Covenant camp. The small party of soldiers led him to the edge of the camp and an Elite stood up in front of him.
"Take him to Field Master 'Keflee."

Michael was taken to tent and thrown unceremoniously inside. A massive, gold-armored Elite stood in the center, flanked by two bodyguards. For an odd reason, Michael was impressed by the Covenant soldier's appearance and stature. Michael bowed respectfully.
"Why are you here, human?"
"I have killed Covenant soldiers, seen my own friends die, I no longer want to fight against you."
'Keflee surveyed the human, "Do you wish to help us? One human will not help take the fortress." 'Keflee nodded to 'Renamee, "Take him away and execute him."
'Renamee grinned; he grabbed Michael who began protesting.
"Wait, I have information for you!"
'Keflee leaned forwards, "Like what?"
Michael glanced nervously at the Elites in the tent, "I know a secret way into the base, you can use it to capture the base."
"Where is it?"
"I'll show you, but try not to kill all of them."

Michael led the Covenant army through a deep forest, he pointed to a metal door.
"There's the entrance."
"You did well, human," 'Keflee turned to 'Renamee, "Take 20 stealth soldiers with you, get the gate open. We'll be waiting."

Private Jason leaned against a wall, blinking sleep out of his eyes. Through half-closed eyes he saw a door at the end of the hallway open. Instantly alert, Jason raised his MA5B, "Who's there?"
An energy sword appeared out of nowhere, "Damn!" Jason opened fire. The elite's shield absorbed the bullet and he swung the sword. Jason's rifle fell on the floor, followed by his headless corpse.
When the first shot was fired, Colonel Polanto was instantly awake; he leaped out of his bed and began shouting orders. But he knew it was too late. The men guarding the gate were massacred, energy swords slashed through body armor, bodies collapsed on piles of spent shell casings. The gate was open, and hordes of Covenant poured in.
Polanto emptied his clip into a pack of grunts, "Johnson, Peters, cover me!" As the first row of grunts collapsed, a squad of jackals ran in. Polanto swore, there were too many of the bastards. All around him marines, ODSTs and other soldiers were yelling, praying or screaming in pain.
"Take that, split-lip!"
"Damn, I'm hit!"
"They keep coming!"
A medic was trying to treat a wounded soldier. The man had been shot in the stomach and was bleeding.
"I'm gonna die! I know it!"
"Retreat, fall back to the control room!"
Only seven soldiers made it, the rest were surrounded and ripped apart by Covenant forces.
'Keflee and his guard entered the base, "'Renamee, make your report."
"The humans are surrounded and are ready to fight to the death."
"How is our little traitor?"
"He feels we haven't kept our part of the bargain."

Polanto looked out of the window, grunts, jackals and elites were surrounding the control room. Polanto turned to another soldier, "What are our losses?"
"Well we only got seven men, and McCawley ain't gonna last much longer. The poor bastard is sliced open."
Polanto turned to the window, "Looks like those bastards want to parley."

As the grunts and jackals parted, Polanto was a group of Elites line up, expecting to see a Covenant ambassador; Polanto drew his pistol, but concealed it. Michael walked out from behind the elites, "Colonel, the Covenant aren't going to harm us. Just surrender. I've made a deal with the Elite commanders."
Polanto laughed, "Bring this to your new masters," he raised his pistol and fired. The bullet hit Michael in the chest and he collapsed.
'Keflee smiled, "Kill!" The wave of Covenant soldiers surged forwards. 'Keflee looked down at the wounded human underneath him. He activated his energy sword.
"Please," Michael whimpered, "You promised."
The elite laughed, "Your very existence shames the Great Journey. Die with honor, like your friends." He lunged forward, stabbing the soldier in the chest. Then the Elite whispered into the dying man's ear, "So die all who betray their kind."
