NOTE: This is the second entry. The first one got messed up somehow so I'm resending it.

MC inched his way across the burnt ground that was New Castle. He constantly kept his pistol up and he didn't sleep during the whole trek across the ruins. He was as edgy as ever after he found out he was having strange blackouts. What was even more disturbing, however, was this new weapon the covenant had created. Whatever could cause such destruction like this was truly a force to be reckoned with.

"Cortana, can you see if there are any radio transmissions from Mambalo VI"?, asked MC as he sat on the ground to rest for a moment. Seconds later Cortana replied, "There's definitely something, but its to garbled to make out". MC stared West into the blue horizon of hills and thought to himself, for a planet full of Earth's armies, this place sure is empty.

He got up and continued, this time speeding up a little. "Damn, Mambalo VI is still at least ten kilometers", complained MC. "We need some way of getting there faster. He stared around the ruins, trying to find some jeep or hovercraft that was still intact.

He realized it was futile and continued on disheartened at the situation. For all he knew, the covenant might have destroyed everything by now. He leveled a small hill and came upon a trickling creek that stretched off into the distance. He wouldn't have given it a second thought if it wasn't for what he saw half submerged in the bank. It was a warthog that was only partially damaged.

As if his prayers were answered he jumped down to the bank and examined the jeep. "Cortana, run a scan to see if this thing still runs", commanded MC as he circled. He came around to the driver's seat and gasped. In it, still clutching to the wheel was a marine. His suit was completely burnt off along with his hair. His skin sagged from the scorch marks all over his fire-trodden body.

MC grabbed him by the arm and began pulling him out so he could start it. "Master Chief, this thing has very little gas, but it should still run fine", said Cortana. He continued pulling when suddenly the corpse jerked and fell to the ground. "Oh my god", muttered MC as he bent down to help the marine. The marine gasped for air and covered his eyes in fright.

"NO, DON'T DO IT, PLEASE", screamed the infantry soldier. "What happened here with the covenant"?, asked MC loudly. The marine continued to seize and scream in fright. MC opened a supply chamber on his suit and brought out a makeshift First Aid Kit. He grabbed a syringe and filled it with a blue sedative. He injected it gently into the marines arm and sat back and waited for it to take effect.

After about a minute, the marine calmed down and after making sure he was still alright MC asked him nicely, "What's your name". The soldier gazed at him and muttered with a croaked voice, "P-private Branston, Third Infantry Omega". He then looked at MC and said quietly, "You one of em' SPARTANS aint'cha". MC nodded and as he wiped some of the blood off Branston's scorched face.

"What happened here Branston, what happened to New Castle"?, asked MC somberly. A tear floated out of Branstons eye as e began to weep. "T-t-the Covenant came in some sort of n-new ship we had never encountered. We didn't know what to do; this thing was freakin huge". It was like a long cylinder that was completely white. It positioned itself over the city and began to glow brighter than the sun. The next thing I knew, I running with about 1,000 other fearful people. I was lucky enough to come across this warthog and drive to the outskirts of the city.

Branston closed his eye and tried to contain the tears that were coming. He spoke in a soft, almost silent, voice, "That's when it happened". MC spoke in stern voice as he asked, "What happened Branston". "That's when they dropped something out of the ship; a tiny red crate that made a whistling noise as it fell through the sky.

When it struck, the sky lit up with the power of unimaginable forces. A shockwave ripped through the city instantly killing anyone and everyone. I was caught by the end of it and it sent my warthog here flying into the creek. I got burnt pretty bad, but at least I'm alive.

So those crates we saw were the new weapons, thought MC as a revelation suddenly hit him. "That means the ship is hidden in North Sarcosa's sewers", exclaimed MC as he jumped up. Branston looked up at him and pointed into the sky behind him. "LOOK, COVENANT DROPSHIPS! MC yanked out his pistol and instantly got down on the ground. He pulled Branston behind the warthog and told him to stay put.

He crawled up the hill and watched as the two dropships landed in the center of the city. "What the hell are you guys doing here", whispered MC to himself. Out of the dropship, appeared about twenty of more grunts, three brutes, and a hunter. Damn, thought MC, I only got six shots left and a plasma grenade.

"Cortana, check all frequencies for a sign of marines, I'm gonna need some help", muttered MC. "Right, I'll check in if I find anything", replied Cortana quickly. MC weighed out the odds and decided with a little amusement, that he would take them all out himself. "Branston, stay hidden; I'll be back in just a bit", said MC as he crawled over the hill. He inched across the ground towards the large group.

Hunting for survivors, MC guessed. He crawled behind a burning piece of metal and prepared for the battle about to happened. He peeked around the corner and muttered to himself, "One, two, three". He jumped out and rolled across the ground and unleashed three bullets, each landing between the eyes of the brutes. They fell instantly and in there place the grunts began firing at MC. He dodged back behind the metal and decided to save his last bullets for the hunter.

He jumped out and ran at the grunts who in turn charged at him. He grabbed the closest one and stuck the grenade down his throat. He three him, accuracy, into the crowd of grunts. Seconds later, the grunt blew to pieces, taking out almost every grunt. The hunter starting firing at the MC, who just dodged out of the way. He grabbed the last grunt and broke its wretched neck right in half. "Come on you dumb basterd, lets see what you got", laughed MC as he began walking towards the hunter. "ROARRRR", bellowed the hunter as he raised his arms and charged at MC.

MC jumped to the side and ran behind the hunter. He then fired three direct shots into the beast's yellow back. The hunter screeched in pain and fell to the ground and lay still. "Master Chief, I've made contact with Mambalo VI", said Cortana.

MC said quickly, "What did they say, are they sending reinforcements"!? Calm down Master Chief, they said they can't send reinforcements because they're in the middle of a huge battle over there. MC hopped back down to Branston and asked, "Do you think you can stand and get in the warthog". Branston smiled slightly and said, "I'm burnt, not crippled; I can walk just fine". "I could use some clothes though, its pretty damn cold. MC looked at him slightly and shook his head, "We wont have anything until we get to Mambalo VI, sorry".

After they were both in the warthog, MC started it up and soon they were moving across the small hills. Night was beginning to fall as the warthog moved silently across the open land. They weren't running into any covenant dropships or soldiers and for that, they were thankful. About an hour into the driving the warthog gave a loud sputter and slowed down to a stop. "DAMN'T", bellowed MC as he got out and examined the area around them.

Branston, who was asleep, awoke and asked, "What's wrong Chief". "Damn thing's out of gas and were still a good six miles from Mambalo. Branston looked away and thought about it. He then said, "I suppose we could just walk the rest of the way". MC looked at him and said, "We don't have a choice, come on; we need to hurry". Soon they were both scuttling through the land hoping to get to their destination before they didn't have a destination anymore.

They had been walking for about two hours when they came over a hill and saw the lights of the city glowing just over the next hill. "Yes, we made it", exclaimed Branston as he started walking down the hill at a fast pace. MC followed slowly listening at the sounds of gunfire that rang through the city. Good, MC thought, they're not dead yet; there might still be hope.

"Master Chief, this is Cortana; I am shutting myself down for awhile to sustain energy until we get there", said Cortana abruptly. She was offline before MC could interject so he just kept going. All of the sudden a brilliant white light filled his eyes. His first thought was that a bomb must've gone off.

He knew suddenly it wasn't because there was no explosion of fire. This was something else. Then, everything went completely black.

MC opened his awoke with a start and stared around him. He was in a purple room that was completely round. The floor pulsated a blueish color and a white pillar stood in the center of the strange room. MC realized suddenly he was tied up. His arms and legs were attached to long brown coils that went into the room. He suddenly knew where he must be... A covenant warship.

The white door on the opposite side of the room slid opened and a large brute walked in. He then stepped aside as a bright light filled the room. Something entered the room and began walking towards MC. He could feel that this was something powerful, even on Covenant standards. Suddenly the light disappeared and what entered was revealed.

It was short and stumpy creature. It's bulb-like head glowed faintly and red shrouds covered his 3' body. His face had no mouth, but two large red eyes. He walked up to MC and even though he didn't have a mouth, MC could still hear him. "Well, SPARTAN, I suppose you've got some questions for me eh"? "I can tell you I didn't expect to see you again.

I was sure I told those brutes to get rid of you, since your job for us was done. "What the hell are you"?, asked MC in a loud tone. "I guess it wont do no harm telling you about the project we've been working on; considering you wont be around much longer anyway. The thing then spoke in a quiet voice, "Well, it all started about a month ago on your human time-frames...

To be continued...
