Master Chief, Fred, Kelly and Linda launched from Salvation. Master Chief held on to the 'Hog as he watched the nukes fly towards their targets. But before it could hit the massive Covenant army forming on the valley below, another Covenant ship moved in the way of the missile. Although the nuke didn't wipe out the army on the ground but who knows how many covenant were on that ship. Captain Johnson must have seen this and realized that it was his only hope because he launched the MAC gun at the defenseless ship. When it hit, the Covenant ship spun to the ground forming the biggest frag ever seen. It hit where the Covenant army was stationed wiping out hundreds or thousands of troops. That helped, but there were still well over 40,000 Covenant. It was the Spartans' job to kill them all.
When they reached the surface, the Scorpion and Warthog were dropped and then the Spartans jumped out of the drop ship and got in the vehicles. Fred got in the tank, Master Chief got in the driver seat of the Warthog, Linda got in the side seat with her sniper rifle and Kelly got in the gunner's spot.
They drove though the city and were approaching a very large hill when Adele announced, "large concentration of Elite worriers over the next hill!" he was right. As soon as they reached the top of the hill, they saw at least 300 elites concentrated in one area. They were mostly blue armored rookies with some golden elites and even a few golden swordsmen elites. John wondered why the Covenant put so many of there best warriors in one place. He quickly pushed that thought aside and concentrated on the objective ahead. Getting through that force and planting a nuke in the vicinity of the 45,000 strong covenant army and the small Covenant fleet still stationed there. If they could pant nukes in the middle of that army, they could wipe out most of the army and lower the shields on the ships, allowing the Salvation and the approaching UNSC fleet to take them out.
"Fred, stay behind us and cover us. We're going to have to fight our way though" ordered the Master Chief.
The acknowledgement light blinked on the Master Chief's HUD. Then the Master Chief drove down towards the elites followed by Fred. By that time Linda had already started sniping. Then once they got close enough Kelly opened fire with the chain gun. As they reached the warriors, they were under extremely heavy fire. Luckily, cover fire from Fred lightened the load. As they were driving, an elite grabbed on to the Master Chief. Linda put the sniper to its chest and pulled the trigger, blowing the elite back and leaving a hole in its chest. Then out of the corner of her eye, she saw an elite trying to grab her from behind. She turned around and bashed the but of the sniper rifle into the elites face, breaking its shield and crushing its skull. A golden elite grabbed Kelly's ankle. She kicked in the air sending the elite flying. She then aimed up at the elite and opened fire with the chain gun. Master Chief pulled around and headed toward Fred. "Lay down fire behind us." An acknowledgement light blinked in his HUD. The earth rumbled in the 'Hog from the annoying engine and the constant explosion of Fred's rock combined with the rhythmic machine gun that sprayed the Covenant Bastards which eliminated some. Enemy aircraft could be seen as a large purple dot. "We are moving back to the base of the hill! We need to drop Linda off! Aden, bring those Banshees in and clear them out." said the Master Chief. Master Chief new that grunts threw grenades more than any other type of Covenant. A group was huddled at the base of the hill and was trying to hit Fred. Perfect. "Linda, get ready to jump." Light blinked on the Master Chief's HUD. He drove through Covenant narrowly dodging a Golden Swordsmen plasma sword. He drove to the base of the hill. Careful no to hit the Grunts. The Master Chief stopped the vehicle.
"Why did you stop?" Linda asked.
"Kelly, Linda switch places." Master chief said. As accepted the grunts threw grenades. Master Chief drove forward to avoid them. "Linda, jump!" Linda squatted and jumped as hard as she could. The combined force of Linda's jump and the exploding grenades launched Linda to the top of the hill. Master Chief jumped out as the vehicle as it flipped. Being launched above the vehicle he sprayed the covenant with assault rifle ammo and landed back in the 'Hog without any damage on his shield. Rows of Elites dropped like flies from combined fire the made the remaining number a fifth of what it started with. The Banshee's could be heard.
"Banshee ETA is two minutes" Aden said.
"Linda get on the Scorpion's side seat. Let's heard some Covenant." An acknowledgment light blinked on the Master Chief's HUD blinked in Master Chief with acknowledgement lights. The 'Hog pulled out to the left and the Scorpion two the right. Precise fire caused the covenant to make a large circle. The SPARTANS left the battlefield and went into a tunnel. The tunnel was pitch black. The only light was from the Warthog's lights and the SPARTANS headlamps and weapons. The tunnel was light with an eerie green and then went black. The tunnel ended abruptly to a large site. The bastards have been here for less than ten minutes and they are already are excavating. "Badrigal see how many excavation sites there are."
"Yes, Master Chief."
"They drove for twenty minutes through a ravine that was naturally formed but seemed to have Covenant presence. The chief saw an adjacent ravine that showed no Covenant activity. But these pictures were taken before the covenant got here. The Master Chief turned off and saw Covenant flood lights. "Hold up. Fred fire a shot in past those rocks. Master Chiefs magnification showed 16 Hunters jump down in front of the rocks and walk forward. They were 100 yards away.
"Can't get a clear shot!" Linda said in aggravation.
"Fred move in in front of us backwards." As the Hunters came in range of their own weapons they launched three full blasts each. 54 rounds hit the tank. The rocket and machine gun were disabled. Fred spun and Linda pulled out her pistol. The only thing the tank was good for now was a bulldozer. Four fell from being crushed by the ton of metal. Two fell to Linda's fire. Master Chief pulled out from behind the Scorpion. A hunter launched a plasma missile at the 'Hog. He turned to the side and was aligned with a row of four hunters. He turned and head the missile fired a t him hit the back of the warthog which spun it counter-clockwise and killed four hunters. The remaining four hunters faced back to back and launched at the warthog and Scorpion. Unknown to the drivers of the vehicles they were heading right for each other. The Hunters that were hit by the scorpion were launched at the Warthog. Master Chief saw it too late. The 'Hog launched into the air and flipped end over end. The two remaining hunters fired at the Warthog. Master Chief and Kelly were level but ten feet in the air over the Scorpion. The warthog smashed into the ground and the force of falling from 10 feet in the air, combined with the six tons of Spartan landing on top of the warthog caused the axels to break. A Hunter charged up the plasma cannon attached to his arm and fired. Kelly snapped off the chain gun and the two Spartans ran out of the warthog. The other Hunter saw the Master Chief and charged at him. When they were a meter a part, the Hunter swung his shield at the Master Chief. The Master Chief dodged the massive creature's attack and emptied half a clip of assault rifle into the Hunter's stomach. The Spartans charged at the remaining Hunter on foot. The Hunter charged his weapon and aimed at Master Chief because he had killed his bond brother. Linda took the sniper and pressed it against the Hunters back. The hunter froze and felt a handgun go up his neck.
"Enjoy Hell!" Linda said and fired. The limp body hit the dirt and dust went everywhere.
Fred examined the hull of the Scorpion. A chunk had been cut away by fire. He grabbed the barrel and ripped it off. Bent it and formed a temporary hull. They drove to the edge of two tall rocks. Fred had a bad feeling. "Lets get picked up?"
"Thanks Cortana. Let's get to the LZ. Foehammer?"
"Yes, Master Chief?"
"We are moving to the Covenant LZ. ETA ten minutes."
"I wouldn't do that. That area is crawling with Covenant."
"Foehammer, could you give us a lift?"
"Yes, Sir. I will be there ASAP."
"We are going into a hot area. Lock and load." The Pelican arrived five minutes later. It was full of supplies, including two nukes.
"I thought you might need this."
"Thanks Foehammer. We could use these to clear the LZ." They traveled for five minutes away from there last battle took place. They touched down o' the back of a small hill over looking the LZ. It was crawling with all forms of Covenant. A small cruiser had an activated grav lift. "Fred Set the nukes timers for thirty seconds and toss them both into the grav lift."
"Yes, Sir." Fred said moving to his task. He armed them and threw them as hard as he could. They bounced once and rolled to the gravity lift killing a few grunts around the lift. They traveled up and were about to go on the ship when the gravity lift shutdown. The nukes fell to the ground. The cruiser's altitude rose. The nukes exploded and the cruiser returned to its former position wiping out most of the Covenant ground forces in the LZ. The Cruiser's lift reactivated and the ground forces were immediately replenished. The Spartans looked over the ridge and watched it happen. Master Chief was so concentrated on how to clear the LZ that he didn't notice the invisible Golden Swordsmen crawl to his position. It was too late. The sword activated and came down an inch from his neck. A swordsmen held the plasma swords up to each one of his team. Six others stood behind them.
"On the count of three get down." a voice said over the static of the com.
"Who is that?" Master Chief said. The sword next to the Chief's neck moved closer. He heard the sound of a Jackhammer.
"THREE, TWO, ONE! GET DOWN SPARTANS!" The Spartan's hit he dirt with a thud. The Chief saw the sword come down on him when the elite froze and started to fall. The Chief rolled to avoid the blade. He looked and saw Echo 419 zoom overhead not two feet from his head. The heat from the engines drained his shields as they passed by. The ship landed and shut off the engines. "How's that for driving!" Foehammer yelled.
"Thanks Foehammer!"
"Captain, LZ clear. Can you pick us up." the Master Chief said over the com channel.
"Negative. Engaging Covenant ship! Hold on bridge!" static followed the Captain's words. The Chief looked up, a bright light filled the sky.
"Captain? Do you read me? Cortana do you have any readings."
"Chief they're gone." Cortana said in a calm voice.
"Chief I think you should see this. Sending video feed."
"What?" the Chief exclaimed. "That black Elite run back into the tunnel but he had an escape route by getting on the drop ship. We have a new mission people! The Covenant want something and we aren't letting them have it." As the MC said that Covenant flowed from the tunnel forming a large wall. "Kelly and Fred, your with me. We will go up close. Linda, pick off any one we miss."
The Master Chief emptied clip after clip into Elites and Grunts wile using his strength and grenades on most Jackals. For the most part, Kelly stayed in one place, tarring everything apart with the chain gun from the Warthog. Fred, who has no weapon, was bashing the skull of every Covenant he could. As he tuned around after killing a Jackal, he saw shimmering air and a floating plasma sword. He instantly knew that it was an invisible swordsmen Elite. He knew by the position of the sword were the creature's wrist was. The Elite's wrist was shattered by the unbelievable strength of Fred's hand. Because of the immense pain, he dropped his sword and before the sword hit the ground, Fred caught it and cut the Elite in half. He tuned around and cut a Jackal's head off. The Master Chief knew that this was a big waist of time, "Kelly, get ahead and scout. We will finish them off. Linda, clear her a path."
Just then four sniper shots echoed over her shoulder, killing the covenant blocking her way. She ran into the cave and saw an eerie, red glow coming from a side tunnel. She followed the glow and found the black Elite climbing into a Scarab with a glowing, red rock. It spotted Kelly and opened fire. She ducked behind a rock until the firing stopped. She peeked around the rock. The Scarab hovered for a moment. She opened fire. It shot at her and rose to the ceiling and crashed into the ceiling. Kelly ran back to the MC to report. The Master Chief looked around for anything that could help. He saw an abandoned Covenant drop ship and said over the com channel, "run for the drop ship" and then said to Cortana, "place a nav-point on everyone's HUD." Everyone saw the nav-point and three acknowledgement lights blinked on the Chief's HUD. The Spartans piled into the drop ship and Cortana hacked into the drop ship's computer and chased after the scarab as it broke though the ground.
Cortana shot at the fighter and the Master Chief wondered why it didn't fight back. Then he saw the answer, a Covenant ship come through the atmosphere and opened its hatch to allow the Scarab in. Cortana pulled up and headed into space.
