Chapter 2

Onboard UNSC Ship: The Eagle's Black Talon
Upper Atmosphere of "Castle of the Majestic"
0800 hours
April 11th, 2557

When Master Chief got to shuttle bay, he was surprised to see a squad of UNSC Hell-Jumpers and Lieutenant Ula standing there looking impatient
"You're late Master Chief."
Master Chief scoffed at the idea. He just finished cleaning his weapons.
"I'm truly sorry Lieutenant, but what are Hell-Jumpers doing here?"
"Backup, Master Chief."
"With all do respect, having to be responsible for Hell-Jumpers will only slow me down."
"Quite frankly, I don't give a damn."
"The only backup I need are my Spartans."
"I don't really care, I'm glad your other Spartan teammates are M.I.A...and personally, I hope I never have to see you again. The Spartan II program was a waste of tax money, and a waste of the military's time."
Ignoring his superior, he turned to the Hell-Jumpers and shouted,
"Let's get going.... Don't expect a warm welcome..."

Covenant HQ
Surface of "Castle of the Majestic"
9045 hours
April 11th, 2557

'Opma Uyko was laying down when he felt a sharp pain in his side, An Elite had kicked him.
"Wake up!
"Get back to your position before I make you my target practice" it screeched
The little Grunt did what was commanded. He got up, and sat back in his chair. You couldn't even really call it a chair; The Grunt fit perfectly into it. The chair was ghostly purple color; it almost floated, and it was shaped to accommodate the hunched-over Grunt. All Grunts had to wear a heavy Methane tank, or else they wouldn't survive. He would suffocate before he even had a chance to put himself out of his misery.
"Incoming unidentified ship" The Elite shouted
'Opma Uyko scrambled closer to his monitor. According to his screen, it was a Pelican, but the thermal readings were reading as if there was an entire army on the ship.
"Sir, you might want to take a look at this."
As the Elite walked over, he had a puzzled look on his face. It was rare for the species. They never admitted they were wrong, and if you dared challenge them, they would fight you to the death.
" 'Opma! Get our plasma turrets online. Kill the Infidels...."

Onboard Pelican Dropship
Lower Atmosphere of "Castle of the Majestic"
1000 hours
April 11th, 2557

"We got trouble!" Master Chief shouted to his crew.
Plasma fire laced up the side of the Pelican. In a few seconds, they would be toast.
"Grab those parachutes; we have to get out of here! Initiate stealth procedure. Don't open your chute until the last second you can. Let's get out of here alive. Meet me at the clearing of trees...GO!"
Master Chief's mind wandered while waiting for the other troops to jump; he was tired of this war, tired of the death.
As the last Hell-Jumper dived out, an explosion erupted on the port side of the dropship, before Master Chief knew what was happening; he was sucked outside of the ship. He saw clouds, the ground, a hovering Covenant dropship, the ground again, everything, spinning all at once.
He had to even himself out and control his fall, or else he was going to make quite a crater. Instinct took over and he went into the spread eagle position. He wished Cortana hadn't burnt out; he could use her right now. AI's only had lives of five to seven years. They literally thought themselves to death.
Master Chief banished his thoughts about Cortana, he didn't need more stress then he already had. Concentrating, he finally flattened himself out, only to see one of his teammates get shot with multiple flashes of plasma.
The war was shrouded with so much death, Master Chief couldn't stand it. He had learned long ago, that you should never get emotionally attached to your teammates, because they usually ended up six feet deep in the ground.
Master Chief finally pulled his chute; it burst open, slowing his decent. For a split second, it felt as if his stomach was in his feet. His body caught up with itself, and the pressure left. Fifteen seconds later, he hit the ground, rolling as he hit to absorb the impact, as he rolled; he pulled out his pistol as he got to his feet, and took off running. He took aim and fired one round into the closest Grunt he saw. While punching the next one in the skull with his free hand, he felt it collapse under his strength as if punching into wet cardboard. He kept on running. Without looking back, he aimed his pistol behind him and fired another shot. It caught the last Grunt square in the forehead and his carcass fell do the ground, purple blood oozing from the wound. Master Chief kept running for the trees as he holstered his pistol.
He had just run right through a trio of Grunts that were sent to kill a landing "Marie." Master Chief had the element of surprise, they weren't expecting a Spartan. As far as they new, the only Humans on the planet were just simple Shock-Troopers.
He finally got to the clearing of trees and sent a ping over the COM. All at once, the Squad came out of hiding.
"Good to see you made it Sir."
"I'm glad I made it too. Have you accounted for everybody?"
"Yes Sir! One man killed in action, and another with a broken leg."
"Did you recover the body?"
"Yes Sir, we took his pistol and assault rifle ammo. We also have started digging a grave for him."
"Seal that grave Private; we will come back for the body before we leave. How did the other soldier break his leg?"
Master Chief didn't even have to ask, he already knew why. The only reason he asked was for the paperwork he will have to fill out when he got home.
"His leg shattered when he hit the ground Sir. But we can't just leave him here for the Covenant. Once they catch up, he is toast, he can't hold them all off."
"Duly noted Private, you will carry him."
"I'm sorry Sir, what?"
"You will carry him. If you want to take the responsibility of his life, you're going to carry him."
"Yes Sir" Private Caradoc replied, sighing.
Master Chief spoke into the COM,
"This ain't no ice cream social, LETS MOVE IT! WE GOT WORK TO DO! We are going to make the Covenant wish they never took this planet..."
