Into the Unknown Chapter 3 Getting out the can opener...

The Master Chief inserted Cortana into the panel of the Longsword and begin to bring up the weapons details for the ship. "Cortana. Check to see if we have enough fire power to break through the glass over those bay doors and maybe bust open the doors their selves."
"Yes Chief. Checking now." Cortana went to work scanning the area that the bay doors are and the damage that was caused. She was also going over what the Longsword had for firepower. The crew that John rescued was busy with loading any missiles and high explosives that were onboard into the launch bays per the Master ChiefÇs orders.
"Chief. I ran through the scans and the arsenal that we have on board. We have just enough to break through the glass and do some damage to the doors. But not enough to blow them open."
"Ok then. At least we can get the glass off. Cortana. How much damage will be done to the doors their selves after we launch everything we have?", asked John. "Again, not much. The damage will crack and break up the welding that was done by the plasma bombardment, but the doors wont be blow open. We would need twice as many missiles that we have to do the job." Replied Cortana. "Very well, get me back on the COM with Reach. I have a plan."
Cortana got the Chief reconnected with Reach and opened the COM channel.
"This is Longsword 229 to Reach. Over."
"This is Reach. We read you. Over."
"This is the Master Chief. I have a plan. Have you completed getting as much explosives as requested? Over"
"Yes sir. We have found a large amount of mines, rockets, and grenades. Also some nukes. There are some missiles, but we loaded them onto the Longswords. Awaiting orders. Over" John though this over. They canÇt use nukes. But going to need those for later if there is a battle on the way to Sigma 3. Might need the heavy artillery for any boarding action of Convent ships. The Master Chief saw some left over Convent ships from the battle that was fought before the Pillar of Autumn found itÇs way to Halo. There might be some use for those ships after all. "Chief. If I may?", interrupted Cortana. "We could have them blow the doors with the missiles that their Longswords have after we blast through the glass on the outside." The Chief saw what she was saying. Funny how she said it just as the Chief was about to as well. maybe she made more of an impact on him mind than he thought. "Alright then.", said John. "Start on getting that glass cover off of those doors. I will contact the survivors and have them get ready to blast those doors out." John knew that there was a way, and he and Cortana found it. Soon the missiles were away and John told the survivors of the plan.
The missiles raced to the target and impacted. Missile after missile smacked into the glassy surface of Reach, each hitting their target on the dot. Soon the missiles stopped and John had Cortana scan and view the impact area. What he saw pleased the MC. The glass was shattered and the battered doors shown.
"Cortana. was that enough for the other ships to blast open?", asked John. "Yes Chief. it was more than I had though. The other Longswords should be able to easily blow them open from the other side."
Good. I have another question. Is there any atmosphere that is sustainable for humans to live in left on ReachÇs surface?" John knew that more than likely there wasnÇt, but it wasnÇt completely imposable. He hoped that his luck would hold out for this.
"Yes Chief. Surprisingly there is an atmosphere left on Reach. And it can support Human life."
"Very well. As soon as those doors are open we are going in. I want to reload this ship with supplies and weapons. Also we should get to work on getting the other Longswords engines modified like ours and repair any and all damages on this ship. I have a plan to get some Convent technology from the left over ships around Reach."
"Yes Chief. Sending message to Reach now. They understood and are now on their way to getting those doors open. Also, everyone is loading the ships with supplies and weapons." The Master Chief nodded and began flying the Longsword to Reach. Waiting for those doors to open up. He took Cortana out of the panel and put her back into his helmet. Feeling the cool liquid flow that followed. "Ah, nice to be back in here. More room than in the Longsword." The Master Chief chuckled a little at what Cortana just said. So far this little trip into the unknown has been very interesting and full of surprises. Just as long as things keep looking good. John couldnÇt wait to be back with him Spartans, his family. Funny though. Cortana in a way has become family to him as well. And he was going to be sure that nothing was going to harm his friends and family again. Every mission that will follow after this will be all of the Spartans. Though there are just 9 left, including his self, still, there was hope. And with that Cortana learned back on Halo, there would be a way to fight and defeat the Convent for good.
