Halo3: The Starting of the End

Chapter 0
The cliff was about a 200ft drop. I looked up then down, then up again. Banshees flying overhead. I dove for cover. Good they didn't see me. I got up again then peered ahead. Some sort of "machine" was rising out from the earth itself. A large storm cloud was overhead. Soon a bright blue light shot up from the "machine".
A voice. It sounded familiar....it was Cortana. Her body flickered. She was trying to tell me something but I couldn't make it out.
A flash of light...and everything was gone.
Part 1
I woke up.
"Cheif...cheif wake up." It was Sgt.Johnson. I shook my head trying to get back to reality. "Cheif my men and I just got a signal from the east. It might be another group of civilians or marines. I think we should start heading over there as soon as we can."
" That sounds like a plan." I said picking myself up from the metal floor of the Pelican.
The Earth...only a few parts are untouched by the Covenant. I've seen cities destroyed. Women and children burned to ashes. I don't knwo whats ahead...but I'm going to find out soon enough.
The flash of Cortana...it happened again. I thought at first it was my mind playing tricks on me. Or was this real...my head it started to hurt like crazy. I took my hands and presses them to my temples. The pain. It stopped.
" John you ok?" Johnson asked. I gave him a nod. I picked up my helmet from the floor. It made a snaping noise as it locked into place. Everything looked clear to me now.
A Warhog pulled up infront of the Pelicans door.
" Lets move out."

The hogs wheels kicked up dust throwing it at the other hog in back of us. We where a strong group, 40 men,10 Warhogs. The man in back searched the sky for any movement. I looked up and zoomed in by 10x. I couldn't see anything. No birds, no clouds, no nothing. The area around us that was once Africa was totally destroyed. No animals to roam the jungles. No people to flock the streets. It was all to much...it was all to fast. Many thought the Covenant might come eventually. They thought we would be ready. But we weren't.
" Cheif we got a lock on the signal." Said a marine in the front right seat. Now we new exactly where the signal was from. " It looks like its a small village. My stats show the place consisted of at least 400 civilians and a small marine base located outside of the village. Who knows there might be more." Within a few seconds the marine in the seat transmitted the information to the other Warhog through his Marine Navigation System also known as MNS. One of the many new peices of equipment that the UNSC had to offer.
A noise. The machine-gunner unloaded his rounds from the12.7mm. A Banshee was overhead.
Wait this didn't seem right. Why would there be just one Banshee. Was it a Seeker. Damn. If it was we where in trouble.
" We got to shoot that bastard down, it's a Seeker!" I braked over my HUD to the M12G1 Warhog LAAV. Within seconds the marine in the gunners seat shot a ear-peircing round into the sky. It took out the Banshees left wing and started to go down. The body went up into flames as it decended to its doom. The pilot tried to keep it leveled but couldn't. It crashed and exploded. A large orange burst of flame came up. Soon black smoke covered. We kept our course.
Hours passed. We where coming up to the village soon. Just then no one spoke.
Body upon body of people killed everywhere. Blood stained the ground. Torso's where ripped from there bodies. Peoples faces covered in terror. Now I didn't know if we should move on. The people of the village might of of met the same fait. We stopped out hogs. It was apart of the Marines Code to do so. We werent finding anything yet. Then I saw it. A Marine. If his helmet was still in tact we might be able to see what exactly happened here. I first searched for his dog tags. I looked closely at the name written. It said Harris Dre-. The rest of the name was to beaten up for me to read the rest. Harris's helmet was not on him. I looked around near him. I found it. It was covered under some sand. I picked it up. It still seemed in good tact so I opened up the hatch in the back of helmet. I took out the chip. and placed it in the back of mine. The screen came up.........
