Chapter Two
Bullets spewed up soil sending mud flying through the air. Twenty-foot tall trees surrounded the area that Ben was currently in. The tree's leaves were also thick and large creating a dark and gloomy feeling as Ben dodged bullets while running. His objective was to get to the point marked on his tactical map, which was built into his helmet. He liked that he had a tactical map, this would make it easier to kill the Covenant.
Then, unexpectedly, a 7.5mm bullet cracked off of Ben's new and improved energy shield. The bar on his HUD, or heads up display, went down by a quarter. Ben knew that his cover was insignificant to the situation, so he dove behind a semi large boulder.
He still couldn't see what was shooting at him. Ever since Doctor Jenkins sent him on this training mission he knew that she wasn't kidding when she said that it was not going to be easy. Every time Ben took a step something would fire upon him, even if he was making no noise whatsoever. It was as if whatever was trying to kill him was to intelligent for its own sake.
That's when Ben realized that these were not organic enemies, they were some type of machine. So he poked his head out from cover and hunted for this anonymous enemy that was hidden in the darkness. That's when he spotted it, a round drone-like robot with two tiny legs floating above-ground. It had a chain gun mounted on the bottom of it and a rocket launcher on the top.
The only setback of this situation was that the drone was looking straight at Ben with its chain gun starting up. The chain gun spun outrageously for few seconds and then started firing. Bullets soared past Ben's head and cuffed off of his shield bringing it down another quarter and a half.
He then cocked his BR55 rifle, or battle rifle, and fired it at the drone. As bullets bounced off of the drone sparks spewed out onto the ground. You could only fire the battle rifle in bursts or single shots. What astonished Ben was the fact that the 9.5mm rounds coming from the battle rifle didn't even leave as much as a mark on there heavily-armored bodies.
That's when it hit him, Doctor Jenkins gave him a M19 SSM rocket launcher before the mission and said, "Here, you can have this, your going to need it."
How he didn't notice the large weapon on his own back was a mystery to himself. So he hulled the heavy launcher off of his back and aimed straight at the drone, fired it, and dove to the ground covering his head.
He heard the loud bang of the explosion as pieces of metal and shrapnel bounced off his shield. Ben then looked up and saw that his rocket had indeed destroyed the drone. Pieces of the drone lay waste all over the surrounding area creating a battle scarred environment.
Ben knew that since he took that drone out he could now move on, but he was not going to do it recklessly. He gradually moved through the forest as to not alert any other drones to his presence. He did not want to waste any more ammo on them, he only had three rockets left.
As Ben walked surreptitiously through the forest he started to hear a noise that sounded very familiar, a jet engine. There must have been at least three of them flying over top of the forest.
"What's going on?" Ben asked himself quietly.
That's when a bomb slammed onto the ground, made a large explosion, and sent Ben soaring through the air. His energy shield bar went all the way down and started to make a beeping noise meant to alert him that his shield was down.
Ben hit the ground hard sending a sharp pain through his head down his back. He winced in pain as he rose to his feet and started to run. As he ran bombs continued to smack the earth creating an earthquake feel. It was hard to stand because of the powerful ground shakings that were enough to make a normal person trip, but not a Spartan.
Ben just kept running as the jets rained bombs all around him. He figured that if he could get out of this forest he could shoot the jets down with his rocket launcher. The only problem is that if he would happen to miss any of these shots he would have to figure out another method to take out the jets.
The sound of explosions echoed through Ben's ears as he ran through the gloomy forest. He could still hear the jet engines coming from above the forest. They must have been the newly designed bomber jets called the F200.
That's when Ben saw it, a beam of light ahead of him by about fifty feet. The thought that he could now massacre those jets made Ben smirk. He knew that if he got rid of those jets all of his problems would be solved.
Trees tumbled around him as he ran towards the light, this forest was becoming a wasteland. Dying trees lay desecrate all over the dark forest creating a feeling of death and devastation.
He was getting closer and closer to the light. Every time he slammed his heavy armored boot on the ground he inched closer. He could feel the temperature rise when the light started to gleam off of his visor. After about five minutes of running he emerged from the forest into the light, what he saw wasn't for the faint of heart. Three M808B Scorpion MBT tanks sat in the sunlight waiting for Ben this whole time.
All three of the tanks turned there cannons towards Ben, started to fire their machine guns, and shot three 90mm shells straight at Ben. Three of the 7.62mm armor piercing rounds penetrated his shield causing the bar on his HUD to go down all the way.
Now Ben had to think fast, if any of those three 90mm shells hit him he would die. He had to do something, so he dove to the ground and one of the shells flew over his head missing him by a few feet. It impacted a tree behind him sending shards of lethal bark in every direction.
Ben felt an extreme pain in his leg as a large piece of bark barley pieced his armor therefore stabbing into his leg. He felt the blood drip down his leg as he pulled out the bark screaming in pain.
He had almost forgotten about the three tanks from all the pain being put on him. Ben got up, pulled the rocket launcher off his back, aimed at one of the tanks and fired. The rocket soared through the air straight at the tank and finally impacted upon its side. The tank exploded in fire and smoke creating a horrid smell in the air.
Ben then ran towards the second tank at full speed pulling an M9 HE-DP frag grenade out his military belt that wrapped around his waist. He jumped on the tank, pulled the trigger off of the grenade, ripped the hatch off of the tack and threw the grenade in. He heard loud, muffled screams followed by an explosion. After the grenade went off the screaming suddenly stopped creating an eerie feeling of death.
Ben thought about the poor marines he had just killed and whispered a prayer to himself. It wasn't his fault they used marines instead of robots to be my enemies. They would tell certain marines that I was there enemy and that they had to kill me at all costs. It was horrible. The thought of how they tricked the marines made Ben grimace in hatred.
His grimace was then followed by a smile as he ran towards the last tank while reloading his rocket launcher. Once he got it reloaded he steadied the weapon in a crouch position and fired the heavy weapon which caused him to slide backwards a little. The rocket impacted the tank and blew it to hell.
Right as the tank was blown to pieces a rocket landed right next to Ben sending him flying ten feet away. His shield bar dropped to zero as his head slammed off a rock knocking him out.
