New Mombasa, Africa
11th October 2552

"Come on! Lets go, evacuation was ordered five minutes ago!" Carol Smith yelled at her ten and seven-year-old sons. The three civilians rushed out of their home in New Mombassa and headed for the shuttles that would take them out of the town and away from the Covenant. They were already attacking the UNSC space platforms somewhere in that glistening sky above their heads. They met up with other people making their way to the station. They carried their belongings as fast as they could. Then Carol saw a woman she could swear she recognised; she was crossing the street "Natalie!" Carol shouted at a woman across the road. "Wait!" The woman put down here baggage and looked around. "Oh, Carol! I'm so glad to see that you're okay." She shouted back. They ran up to each other and exchanged hugs. "Me too," Carol replied as they were locked friendship for a few seconds. "But we have to hurry." The two women and two children now began to run.

Carol looked down the paved street and wondered what it would look like after the Covenant had come here. The marvels of this city were the reason she moved in, unaware that those aliens were going to come here. She stared at the walls that housed the evacuation shuttles; they were unscarred by any kind of plasma burn or bullet hole. She climbed in the same one as Natalie with her children behind her. She braced herself, as she never did like flight. She made sure her boys had the seatbelts on before the shuttle took off. As it did a huge lurch turned and churned her stomach. She felt like a pile of mush or something similar.

Carol's ten-year-old son, Jack, never believed in the Covenant before. He told himself it was a story to scare young children just like many others; they had never attacked New Mombassa so why should they exist? However when he heard that they were evacuating he wondered what was happening at first. Maybe now it was true after all. Her other son, Michael, was always anxious about the Covenant. He found them fascinating and frightening at the same time. Jack had found his brother's fear annoying, however.

Jack suddenly spotted a small, but bright light in the sky. "Mum," he asked anxiously. "What is that?" Michael stared at the little dot in the sky. He was very intelligent for his age, but jumped to conclusions too soon. "Maybe a Covenant missile," he replied without invitation; "Or landing pod?" His voice contained that essence of fear already. Sure enough the bright dot grew bigger very slowly, and Carol could see a speck of purple colour, hidden by the bright light that was presumably the fire created when entering the atmosphere. She instantly feared the worst. Natalie was gazing too now, and stared in disbelief at the strange thing.

The tiny pimple on the face of the glorious sky was still growing. It came closer, and closer. "We need to get away from that thing." Carol said suddenly. "Somehow, I agree," replied Natalie, "How do you override these controls?" She asked, her voice quickening and growing with fear. "I don't think you can," Michael told her, "It's set to a specific course."
"Then the hell with this!" Carol shouted abruptly, "Let the pod be blown to a billion shards, I'm getting out of here now!" She was right, the Covenant missile or pod was heading straight for them. Bits of it were falling away under the pressure of the blistering heat.

She looked in the behind the back seats. She found three parachutes. Three. "Er, we have a problem." She called to the worried looking passengers. "There's only three parachutes,"
"Ohhh, dear." Jack cried. "Crap!"
"Watch your language, you!" His mother shouted at him. "Carol!" Natalie screamed. Carol turned to see the spot. Only it wasn't a spot. It was now big enough for Carol to see it was indeed a drop pod. It grew bigger still until she could see the glaring, snarling face of a Covenant troop. A scout. It was too late. The two ships collided with a clash of fire and heat. A giant mass of gas and fire grew in the sky. Five figures fell out of the ball of death. They fell to the smoke below.

"Landing drop pod troops, abort your stations," The Carrier's Commander yelled over the loudspeaker. "I repeat, abandon your stations! We have enemy boarding craft inbound, looks like the made it past our battle cluster." Quen 'Elkofee snarled at thin air. A fellow Major strode up. "You heard him," He shouted ,"Repel the boarders!"
"Why do we not just land on Earth!?" 'Elkofee replied; he was growing impatient of the constant switch of stations. "Because of authority!" The Sanheili's temper rose. "The Commander ordered us to do this and by the Forunners we will! Understand!?" 'Elkofee nodded his head slowly ran towards his station. He wanted this to be over with…

The young Major charged into the already large fray. He spun his twin rifles in impatience, either knocking or shooting his opponents. A blow to the back knocked him over. His shields beeping, he rolled over and shot the Human up the nostrils. He staggered away; dropped his weapon and fell flat on his back. Pitiful thing. 'Elkofee then swung his legs in a circle, knocking almost three humans over. One almost flipped over and landed flat, his face twisted. With his spine broken, he died; blood seeping from the motionless face.

He then spun up readied his plasma rifles again. He fired and fired. Killing nearly every human in sight. The job was done. He helped up a wounded Minor before wondering whether that was it. A sudden jolt rocked the ship. "The Demon!" The Commander called again, "The Demon is here! He's just planted our own bomb on the ship's main chamber. Everyon"- he was cut off as a huge explosion sounded overhead. 'Elkofee ran to his drop-pod, shut the door and launched. It was the only way off the ship now because according to the status report on his monitor the hangars were destroyed. He was getting close to Earth's atmosphere now.

He didn't worry about the humans. They wouldn't be able to track a vessel this small. Fire emerged from the side of the ship as he descended. But then he saw another ship lower down in the sky; a human one, but not UNSC. "Life check!" He shouted at the computer screen. "Four life forms," the female voice answered, "All human. Shuttle is a standard escape pod, used in evacuation. Collision in T-minus five seconds."
"Collision!" 'Elkofee bellowed, he hadn't realized they were heading towards the shuttle all along. His face widened as the ship exploded. He fell into the smoke, and finally into water on the African Coast.
