The Mind Chamber--Chapter One
Date: 2 March 2004, 3:33 AM
NOTE: This takes place after the fall of Earth. All of the UNSC ships have been destroyed save one that made away with a motherload of marines. The Last Cause, the ship, traveled to a distant moon to take refuge and John had left on a secret mission to discover what the covenant were doing. It has been four days and he has not returned...
"Take him to the brig", growled a malevolent Brute. Three other brutes and a couple of grunts had just beamed up into the Faith of the Prophet and were moving quickly down the pulsating corridor ahead of them. They carried a large black bag that sagged to the ground. The brute that had spoke was the leader and he followed swiftly behind shouting orders and insults at the others.
They turned left down another corridor and quickened their pace when the leader shouted, "The prophet will be arriving soon and if he doesn't find him in the brig all your heads will be in a Zek' Lar pit rotting"! They turned once more and entered the brig through a large blue door. The room on the other side was extremely long; either wall contained numerous cells with blue forcefields around them. Three brutes who were at a control panel at the far side of the room quickly spun around and went to meet them.
"Captain Talzoc, what is it you've brought this time"?, asked the shorter of the three brutes with a sadistic grin on its face. The other two laughed and pointed at Talzoc, who had a grim scowl growing on his face.
He spoke in a harsh voice, "For you information, slimecrack, I have bagged us the greatest prize of all". Once the Prophet sees this, I'll be leading the entire Covenant army. Talzoc signaled for them to open the black bag and show them. They did as he said and the three brutes gasped in surprise as the Master Chief's battered helmet appeared through the gap.
"You caught the Spartan scum, the one responsible for Halo", screamed the taller brute. Talzoc simply nodded and grinned at the cracked view glass on the MC's helmet. The short brute spoke up again, "Did you kill him yet"!?
Talzoc looked at him dumbfoundly, "What do you mean kill him". He has the location of the very last ship with him. His information is invaluable to us and I'm sure the Prophet has a better way of killing him in the end anyways. He looked to the quiet beefy brute and grunted, "Take him and stick him in the smallest cell over in level B-1 until the Prophet arrives.
"Yes sir", replied the beefy brute quickly as he threw the unconcious Master Chief over his grotesque shoulder and waddled off through a set of doors in the back. Talzoc looked from him to the short one, "Inform of when the Prophet arrives; I'm going to examine this holo chip we discovered lodged in his helmet". The short brute nodded, then hurried through the doors that Talzoc came through and bolted for the docking bays.
Talzoc and the other brutes went up to the control panel and started inputing a series of encryption passwords so they could access the system. The four grunts approached them and the leader of them quietly squeaked, "What shall we do master". Talzoc spun around and glared with haunting eyes at the grunts, "You can go digest yourselves for all I care, you useless Larvox eating scumbags"! They all screamed and scuttled away as he gave a loud roar and spat at them.
The other two brutes roared with laughter as they all tripped over each other at the door. Talzoc turned back around and muttered quietly, "Why the hell would the Prophet want them in our ranks; they're about as useful on the battlefield as a tree".
"Oh I wouldn't say they're that useless Talzoc", said a cold cracked voice from behind him. Instantly, Talzoc and the other brutes spun around and kneeled before the Prophet. It resembled a grunt in nature, but with a lot more intelligence and a small hover seat, which he drifted idly over on. Golden shrouds covered his body and his eyes glowed with intent. He smiled, revealing a set of repulsive teeth that stuck out every which way.
"Master Prophet, welcome to the Faith of the Prophet; I hope you- The Prophet raised it's wrinkle trodden hand and silenced him speaking in a more harsh tone, "Where is this human that I have come for"?
"He is in a cell in B-1 master", replied Talzoc. Master, is it true what you said over the com?
"Refresh my memory Talzoc", replied the Prophet quietly. Talzoc looked back to the monitor, "About this Spartan being the prophesied one who would bring an end to us".
The Prophet stared to the floor and spoke in a soft humble voice, "I do not yet know; the prophecy says however that the One will gain three major victories over us and suffer one overwhelming defeat". From what I understand, he is the one who destroyed Halo, destroyed an armada of warships over REACH, and defeated half a brigade in the Great Battle. He also suffered defeat when we finally overtook Earth and destroyed his fellow Spartans.
So far, I believe he has lived up to the prophecy, but I can't be sure until I meet him. This may be the final end to our constant struggle with these beings. This may be what we have been searching for ever since we discovered what species the prophecy spoke of. I do know this; if this is the prophesied One I'll personally make sure he never fulfills it.
"What do you plan on doing, killing him is the most obvious choice", said Talzoc. But, if I know you master, I bet you have something much more interesting in mind huh? The Prophet grinned and spoke in an excited voice, "Hah, right you are my new General". It was Talzocs turn to laugh as he turned to his fellow brutes and shouted, "Get your lard asses to the B-1 and have the Spartan scum ready to speak to the Prophet.
With that they left through the back door and Talzoc turned back towards the Prophet. "Well, master, I guess we'll soon find out if the war is finally over", exclaimed Talzoc. They both then exited out the back door to finally meet the so-called prophesied one face to face...
NOTE: I know this was boring, but I promise the next chapter will be action packed.
