High Charity Blockade Prt.1
Date: 16 July 2006, 5:35 am
In the Holy City of High Charity an infestation of Flood continues to rampage through the former glorious cities streets. Three Phantoms full of Spec-Ops troops were on their way to a bridge, to assist in the defense of their city. The terrible Brutes had betrayed the noble Elites. Now while they were battling the terrible Flood they also had to worry about the infestation that continues to destroy there city. Had the Covenant army been at full strength the Elites would have destroyed this infestation alone.
The bridge the Phantoms were heading too was between the Breeding District and the Grunt District. They had to defend the Breeder District at all cost. Not that the Spec-Ops had any fondness of the Breeders. But until the were evacuated it was the most populous District in the city. If the infestation were to get in there and infect all of not only the Breeder but the children and the guards of the Breeders, the infestation would be able to immediately rush through the strongest of defenses. That was why these Spec-Ops soldiers had the best defenses to stop it.
The soldiers had two stationary Shades, they had five portable rapid-fire mini-turrets, which the Grunts would man, and due to a shortage of other defensive duns they had ten back-to-front Spectres spreading the width of the bridge.
Jehaii'shammamee was furious with this tactical decision. The Spec-Ops were taken off of the front lines to fight for a bridge. They were busy dealing with the infernal Brutes when the Phantoms had cam in and destroyed all of the fresh kills. Now they had to go back into the stinking cesspit of hell. They had to go back into combat with the force that had taken out half of his squad, had boarded his personal Phantom and was beaten back at the loss of three Elites. Thankfully his squad had been replaced and the front was, for now, secure. But it was more than that; he and his troops was an assault squad. They were used to getting into combat and figuring out what to do then, not being told to do step by step.
So far this was the most boring assignment in the history of his squad. It was absurd to send in a heavily armored and trained squad to protect a bridge. When his men were in briefing the experienced men nearly revolted themselves. Commander Jehaii'shammamee banged his fist on the armor plating of the Phantom. Out of the corner of his eye he saw his men start to check there weapons uncomfortably. It was not usual for commanders to lose their tempers in front of their men under whatever circumstances. Then again it was the inexperienced ones that were checking their weapons.
"Commander, three more units until we reach the drop-off zone. We are currently passing over the Grunt District. By the time we reach the drop-off zone the District will be completely infested with the damned Flood!" yelled the pilot
"Thank, you. How is the District faring in their defense?" asked the commander. He had heard that even though it was hopeless they had assigned an excellent Commander to defend the District with the Grunts.
"Sir they have assigned Lower Field Commander Shranee'Monomee." replied the pilot.
The commander gulped in sadness. "Thank you pilot." In the deepest of his heat Jehaii'shammamee felt the deepest pain that he had ever felt. Shranee was the only breeder in the Armed Covenant Forces that had actually made it into the Command rank. She was also his fiancée, and they had sacrificed her to the Flood. Knowing the Command chain they had chosen her because she was a Breeder. She had opened his eyes to the cruelty of the males to the females. Before now she had been trying to pass a law with the council for better treatment of Breeders.
As if sensing the commanders sadness the pilot said "Do not worry sir, the orders were for her to retreat and eventually take over the blockade".
The only thing that could possibly have made the original news worse was what the pilot had just said. In less that a mili-parsec the commander had gone from sadness into rage. "You know how the Flood attacks? Well let me inform you. They will bash through any defense no matter the cost. If that doesn't work they surround the defense and destroy it. There is no chance that she will survive, because knowing her she will be leading a counter-offensive against the parasite." said the Commander through gritted teeth.
"Sorry, sir" said the pilot.
"It is okay pilot, but do not cross me on this subject ever again" The pilot only nodded. The Commander stepped back into the transport area. He truly cared for his dear fiancé; however he was completely sure that she could survive any attack by this infestation. But if the Admirals and Field Commanders caught wind of him and his men being led by a breeder it would mean disaster for his military career. No matter how many kills he made the Commanders would never let him get above the rank of Ultra.
He heard the rumbling of the Phantom and wondered what lay ahead. The Phantoms were slowly coming towards a halt. It was time to address the men.
"Men when we drop-off remember which one of you were assigned to which turrets, which one of you are on the sniper posts, and which one of you are frontline troops. The frontline troops are to stay in front of the Spectres. All right?" the Commander yelled.
"Yes' sir" the men yelled in unison.
The field opened and the men fell in line to be dropped on the cities. The Commander got in the front of the line. In an instant he floated down onto the bridge. The blockade was set up right behind him, and they were still busy working on the turrets.
"Are they all completed except for this one?" Jehaii'shammamee said to the only Grunt engineer working on the turret.
The Grunt spoke nervously "No sir. This one is finished but I am trying to stop a flaw in the shielding. Also sir my team of Grunts and a squad of seven Elites are to help in this blockade."
"Good, I am putting you in charge of were to place those men." said the Commander focusing on his own men.
"But sir... They will not be willing to follow a simple Grunt's orders." The Grunt said sheepishly.
"Do not worry, tell the men that I am giving you control over them until they are in place."
"Thank you sir I shall go place them." said the Grunt as he walked away fiddling with his hands. He was too nervous about these things.
Jehaii'shammamee heard noises of battle coming from beyond the bridge. But he heard something else, something that was age old, even in the Forerunner when involving the Flood; he heard the promise of death. He heard the sound of his own doom coming to get him when he should have died in his Phantom. He will accept this as a sign of what to come. He will accept that this is not a promise of death for him but rather for them.
He could handle anything so long as his wife did not get in his way.

Jehaii'shamamee looked at where the engineer leader had placed his men. Three Unggoy were manning the turrets, and the seven Shangheili were manning the Spectre turrets. Jehaii' looked towards the Grunt district and wondered where his future wife was. He saw many flashes of light going into the air, there seemed to be more death that he could smell then he could feel. He knew there was more than a chance that she might make it. He both looked forward to it and dreaded it.
"Sir, we have contact with the Unggoy District defenders. They aren't going to be able to hold the Flood back for much longer. They want instructions on whether to retreat or make a last stand" said one of his Spec-Ops troops.
"Tell them that they are to hold there positions unless they are ordered to move" said Jehaii.
"Yes, sir I shall tell them" and with that the Shangheili soldier left to the communications post that they had set up.
Jehaii once again looked to the Unggoy District. It used to be the most peaceful place in High Charity; it had the lowest amount of disturbance issues and had a District Patrol. Now it was a desecrating war zone of Heresy and Infestations. All of the District Patrol members had been given fully effective Needlers instead of their usual Plasma pistol. They had been put into tough strong suits of armor and sent to their death knowing that their brothers had died for a false belief.
It was enough to almost make Jehaii weep, but he could not focus on the matters and had to turn to look at the grav-lift. It had just appeared on the bridge and with Kig-Yar and Jiralhanae swarming all over the place no Shangheili commander could be too sure.
The grav-lift door opened to reveal an entire squad of Jiralhanae and two Kig-Yar with Beam Rifles. The commander leaped into action while the rest of the squad had just turned. He drew out his sword with a loud yell and charged the squad of Heretics. They were heretics, not to their faith, but to their worlds and the worlds of every other race alive. The squad started to fire immediately once he had reached the grav-lift. They took out one of the Snipers while Jehaii slashed the neck of a Jiralhanae. Jehaii turned around and lashed at another one, but this one was far more powerful. The slash barely scratched his tough hide.
A charged plasma pistol shot his the Jiralhanae straight in the forehead, shattering his face-plate. Jehaii took advantage of that by lunging at it and cutting its face in half. The barrage of fire from the squad killed most of the rest but their was still one left, the captain. The Captain was furious and snarled; throwing his weapon to the side he made a daring charge at the Shangheili. The Commander jumped out of the way of the charge and once again the Jiralhanae was hit with a fully charged plasma bolt, this time to the rib. The Captain cried out in anger and agony. Jehaii looked to see who had shot the bolt and it turned out to be the Engineering team leader.
At the same time the Captain saw him as well. The Jiralhanae foolishly tried to charge at the entire blockade, but was soon cut down by overwhelming fire. The Shangheili laughed at the stupidity of the Jiralhanae. Once the cleanup was over and the bodies had been burned Jehaii walked over to the Unggoy engineer leader.
"Thank you umm what is your name?" asked the Commander.
"Ohh no sir. I am not worthy of the honor of truly being thanked by a blessed one" said the Unggoy stuttering at almost every word.
"Nonsense, officially once you save my life twice you are my friend so please tell me your name"
'Oh I'm not sure that you really want to know. I'm just an Unggoy"
"Soldier do you want me to make that an order?" said the Commander starting to lose patience.
"No sir my name is Kalapa" said the Unggoy finally saying it.
"Well Kalapa thank you for saving my life twice" said Jehaii.
"It is no tr-" Kalapa was cut off by the Shangeili's hand in the stop signal. Jehaii looked towards the Unggoy District. Coming out of the smoke was a female commander in goldish red armor. Guarding her were two Ultras and an honor guard.
