The Fall of New Mombasa by Havoc 101

The Fall of New Mombassa Part 1
Date: 28 September 2007, 7:35 pm

Srg.Mitchell looked up at the covenant worship docked in New Mombassa. He didn't know what he would do when he would meet up with the Master Chief to take that thing down and take that thing down. The prophet was about to learn not to mess with UNSC and especially his bad ass squad.
"Sir, we've found a sewer tunnel that leads directly below a building somewhere near the city center; we're going to have to do some swimming though," Corporal Spencer said to Mitchel.
"Doesn't matter, unless you guys are afraid of the water," The seargent said to his marines,"
"Why can't we just take the bridge? That is probably the most direct route to the covenant ship," Private Parker said has he pointed to the bridge in front of them,"
"That's a stupid question marine. The covenant are using the bridge to move their vehicles and gear to New Mombassa. There has to a lot of them, and we don't have enough ammo to take them all after what we had to take on in Old Mombassa. We also need a lot more men to take on that many covenant," The seargent said to the private.
"We're going to have climb down into the water below and swim all the way to the other side. When we get to the other side we're going to have to climb a little more on that wall over there, and there should be a sewer tunnel that can get us inside the city without being noticed," the corporal said to seargent again.
"Alright marines, put up your gear and get prepared for a little swimming," Mitchell ordered his troops.

Retre Onwessy, walked through the hallways of the covenant battleship. He walked past a group engineers who ignored him like they did to the rest of the covenant's races. He walked through more hallways, passed some grunts and then walked into the gear room where his special ops team waited patiently for him. They were made up of two grunts and three elites. He was their leader for more than six years. They never questioned his orders and were loyal to him, even the ungoggy in his team.
"Has the prophet given us a mission yet?" Yukke Yaimee, his elite assistant, asked him.
"No, but be patient my brothers, they will summon us soon.
A few minutes later he got a transmission on his COM link.
"Retre, you have a new order. We have found out that the demon has found us," Regret said through the COM said.
"The demon, really," Retre said in disbelieve
"Yes, your mission his to stop him before we find the Ark," Regret said again.
"Yes holly one, may the prophets' will be done," Retre said before the COM switched off.
" Alright men, we have the prophet's blessing to kill the demon, get your equipment and then get to the gravity lift. This isn't just any mission, this is an honor," Retre said to his troops has they got ready.

"This is why I hate climbing," Private McGraden said as he struggled to put his hand on a part of the wall.
They had just finished swimming across to the other side below the bridge and now they were trying to climb into the sewer up the wall and into the sewer tunnel. It wasn't an easy trip; even the sarge was having a hard time.
"This why I tried to convince you to go into one more month of training," Srg. Mitchell said to his marines."
"The training was real bull..." Parker said as he suddenly got interupted.
"Watch your mouth Parker, that training is the only thing that's keept you alive through all of those battles," Mitchell screamed at him.
"Sir, I'm almost there...yes, I've gotten into the tunnel," the sarge heard Corporal Spencer say.
"So have I," Private Scrapper said.
Soon they were all inside the circular, 10 feet high, 7 feet wide tunnel.
"Marines, take out your weapons and turn on your helmet lights, it's dark in here." Mitchell ordered his squad.
After about 10 minutes of traveling through the tunnel, the corporal looked at the map and saw they were at there destination.
"The building should be right on top of us," he said.
"So, how do we get up there; there's no latter or door above on the ceiling," McGraden said to his teammates.
"Spencer, set a charge," the sarge ordred the corporal.

Retre loaded his carbine and charged his sword. Yukke had a carbine like him, Dion Vergima: his other elite warrior dual-wielded two needlers, and his grunt ungoggys had dual-plasma pistols. They all had 4 plasma grenades and he told Yukke to pack a fuelrod gun. This was no regular human, this was the demon. Many great warriors have fallen to his might, but not his squad. They were ready, and when they came back with the demon's bloody head, they would be the most legendary heroes of the covenant ever.
They got to the gravity lift and he ordered his grunts to go first, just in case of snipers who could snipe us when we headed down the lift. The ungoggy reported it was safe, so they went down the lift two at a time.
When they got down, he smelled the unbearable stench of humans nearby. They would head in that direction and the humans would tell them were the demon was. Theyn stepped through the ruins of the city until they spotted a crashed pelican dropship and about 12 humans.
"Warriors, engage active camouflage now. Then sneak up on the enemy. Kill has many as you want, just leave at least one alive." he ordered them.
They attacked silently, but the marines noticed that their teammates were falling.
"Open fire every where marines, the bastards must have active camo," their seargant told them.
They did as they were told and eventually they hit one of his warriors shields and his active camo broke. The marines then opened fire on him but then Retre turned his active camo of and fired opened fire. Then all his squad did and the marines fell one by one, but they saved the sarge just like they were told.
Retre then picked up the seargent and started asking him the one thing they attacked them for.
"Where is the demon?"
"The what?" the sarge said, confussed.
"The Master Chief," Retre said to make it clear to him.
"I'm not gonna tell you, bastard," the seargent spat in Retre's face.
Retre took out his sword and put it near the human's face.
"I do not have time for your negative intellect, incompetent beast. I will only ask once more, where is the demon."
"He's on his way to the ship, probably made it to the bridge already. I wouldn't go after him if I were you, he'll kick your ass," the sarge said and laughed in Retre's face.
Retre then threw the sarge on the ground and struck quickly. His teammates looked away from the corpse and waited for his next order.
"We will call in a spectre and then head for the bridge, the demon will fall," Retre said with joy.

"Almost done with setting the charge...got it. Stand back everyone," Corporal Spencer said as he set the charge.
Everyone ducked on cover as peices of cement and metal fell on them. They then got up and climbed up into the lobby of the building above them. When they all got up in the large room, they regreted coming in the city through this building. In side the room were a lot of elites, grunts, jackals, and a wraith tank all looking at them.
"Holy shit," Parker said slowly.
"Alright marines, lets cook the bastards," Mitchell ordered them.

The Fall of New Mombasa Part 2
Date: 7 October 2007, 4:15 am

Rertre Onwessy watched as dozens of ghosts raced down the bridge. Apparently the human was wrong. The demon hadn't made it to the bridge yet, but he heard reports from other covenant command post that the demon was on its way. He had this planned out perfectly, the ghosts would tire the demon, and then the wraith would finish him off.
Retre's mandibles twisted into an alien grin as he watched the phantom come in with the wraith tank. Everything was going to be perfect. Yukke came up to him.
"Sir, one of our snipers has spotted two marines on the other side of the bridge," Yukke informed him.
"Send a few ghosts down there, we don't want them to ruin our plans," Retre ordered Yukke.
"Yes sir," Yukke said.
The two ghosts raced across the bridge. He watched as they disappeared down the other side of the bridge. He gasped as he saw two explosions on the other side. Then he roared in anger as he saw a human scorpion tank coming slowly toward the other side.
"Ahhh, Yukke, I thought you said it was just two humans," Retre said in great anger.
"I did, that's the demon," Yukke said back.
"Alright, send all of the ghosts down the bridge, tell the banshee pilots to get ready, and get the wraiths up here," Retre ordered.
"Yes, sir," Yukke said.

Srg. Mitchell fired his battle rifle multiple times, taking out a jackal, two elites, and three grunts. He and his marines were ducking behind a stack of debris, fighting for their lives.
"Sir, this is suicide," Parker yelled.
"I'm getting the hell out of here," McGarden said as he started running toward the hole they had come from.
"Don't even think about it marine. You either die fighting or die running, cause I'll shoot you myself if you retreat. All we need to do is take out that wraith, and I've go an idea. Spencer, roll a frag under the tank," the sarge ordered.
The corporal did what he was told and threw a grenade under the tank. The grenade exploded and damaged the tank's plasma cannon. An elite came out of the tank to repair it. Mitchell then threw a frag at the elite. It bounced off the alien's blue armor and right inside the tank. The wraith exploded into a cloud of blue smoke and the infantry around it started panicking.
The marines shot down all of the cowards until the room was filled with alien blood, and corpses.
"Spencer, status report," Mitchell said to the corporal.
"Everyone here is okay. Just a few minor plasma burns, but we can still fight," Spencer told him.
"That's good news. Let's get out of here before more of them come," Mitchell said.

Retre watched in disbelieve as one by one, his infantry and vehicles blew into clouds of fire. After impatiently watching the demon slaughter his army, he jumped into a ghost himself and charged at the tank. He gave one last order before he went.
"Yukke, if he gets this far call in the ambush team," he ordered and then went off.
Retre boosted all the way to the demon's tank and started burning off its wheels.

"Chief, the elite is trying to burn our wheels," Cortana said to the Master Chief.
"Hold on," the Chief said as he turned the tank toward the ghost.
The front of the tank smashed into Retre's ghost and made it go flying off the side of the bridge. He watched as the elite and his ghost flew through the air and down into the water below.
"Good job, but there's another few ghosts heading your way," Cortana informed the Chief.

Srg. Mitchell walked into the street out side the building they were just in. There were empty cars littered along the street. Bu they weren't the only ones there. A covenant ghost came right at Mitchell and almost ran him over. It would have too, if the warthog didn't come smashing in to it.
"Heard you guys could use a ride," the driver smiled at him.
"You heard right," Mitchell said back to him.
They all squeezed into the vehicle, even though it was only designed to fit three people.
"Where do ya need to go?" the driver asked.
"There," Mitchell said as he pointed at the warship floating above New Mombassa.
They drove around killing every covenant bastard that was stupid enough to get in their way. They were making good progress until they ran into the scarab. The ground started shaking and the enormous thing walked right in their way.
"A scarab," Spencer yelled out.
"Holy shit, I've never seen one this close," Parker said.
"Well today is your lucky day," Mitchell said, "We must be close to their ship."
They drove a few more blocks until a plasma grenade stuck to the bottom of the warthog.
"Shit," Spencer yelled.
"Everybody out," Mitchell ordered.
They got out just in time but they still got hit by the blast. Mitchell fell to the ground. Something then picked him up. It was a brute.
"Human," the brute said in is face.
"Get your self a breath mint you ugly bastard," Mitchell spat in his face.
The brute then raised its spike rifle to his face. It was about to pull the trigger when the ground shook. The warship then started moving with the glow of the slip space portal around its bow.
"Slip space rupture along the ship's bow," an elite said.
The ship went into slip space and all of New Mombassa got absorbed into the blinding white slip space rupture.

Retre awoke on the shore of a sewer wall on the other side of the bridge. He was covered in his own blood. He ached all over. He clutched his stomach in pain. He then saw a sparkle of gold and then a small ball with one eye appeared.
"Oracle!" Retre exclaimed.
It was another monitor. This one had a purple eye instead of a blue or red one.
"Reclaimor, we must move now, there is much work to be done," the monitor said and then they both disappeared into shimmering gold.

The Fall of New Mombassa Part 3
Date: 14 October 2007, 1:24 am

Srg. Mitchell got up off a pile of debris. He looked around. Everything was destroyed and in ruins. The tower in the middle of the city had fallen and the street was torn into pieces.
"What just happened," Mitchell asked his crew.
"Like that elite said; slip space rupture from the covenant ship. They must have gotten scared and ran," Spencer answered.
"Cowards," Mitchell mumbled under his breath, "How did we survive this?" Mitchell screamed at his team.
"I don't know. I just saw white and then the next thing I knew I was laying face down on the street," Parker said.
"Are we all okay?" he asked them all again.
"Yes sir, only minor wounds," Spencer answered him.
"Good, now let's try to get out of here," Mitchell yelled.
They weren't the only ones who survived, though. A brute busted out of a pile of ruble and charged at them. It was berserking and trying to tear apart McGarden. Mitchell pulled his magnum out of its holster and aimed. He then head-shotted the ugly beast before it jumped on top of McGarden.
"Holy shit," McGarden said as he kicked the brute's corpse.
"Does anyone have a working COM?" Mitchell asked them all.
"I do," Scrapper said to the sarge.
"Good, give it to me," Mitchell ordered.
Scrapper gave Mitchell his COM unit. Mitchell tried to get a connection, and then tried to call for help. After about five minutes of trying he finally got an answer.
"This is Seargent Mitchell, does anybody read me," he said through the COM.
"Yes, we read you seargent. What do you need?" a voice answered.
"We need immediate pick up from New Mombassa. Something freaky happened and we survived. Repeat, we need immediate pickup on the double," Mitchell said through the COM.
"New Mombassa, holy shit," the voice said to itself, "Roger that. We're gonna send a few nearby Hornets. All of our Pelicans are too busy with other things," the voice said.
"Roger that," Mitchell said back.
They waited for about three minutes until they saw the hornets fly over head. There were four of them: three to pick up his team, and the other for backup, Mitchell thought. They hopped on the sides of the vehicles, and watched the real damage New Mombassa took from over head.
There was a weird noise and they looked up to see a fleet of covenant warships a distance away.
"These bastards just don't know when to quit," Parker said.
"They probably were looking for something in the city. Other wise they probably would have glassed the city," Mitchell said.
"Wasn't important enough for them not to make a slip space jump inside the city," Parker said.
'We've got enemy contact moving in: four Banshees and two Phantoms. It's gonna get rough," the pilot of the Hornet said.

Retre saw the flash of gold around him again and then saw he was in another area. He felt like he was going to throw up; but he didn't. He saw he was in a large room. It was shaped like the inside of an orange; with a hole at the bottom. He and the monitor were on a glass bridge, and in the center, was a hologram of a halo around a hologram of a planer.
Retre then recognized this room from stories he had heard. It was the control room of one of the halos, or as the covenant called it: sacred rings.
"Why have you brought me here?" he asked the monitor.
"Why we have to activate this installation, the flood is spreading." The monitor said.
"As much as it sickens me, only a human can activate the sacred rings and start the great journey," Retre said to the monitor.
"Great journey? Ah yes, it is what your kind refers to as the activation process. Well, after months of watching reclaimer after reclaimer die from the flood to reach this stage, I found Earth. There were many of the reclaimers there, but they were busy fighting your race. None of them were fit to activate this installation either. But then I found you, reclaimer. You were different from the rest of them. So now the final stage is up to you, reclaimer.
"Don't we need the activation index," Retre said to the monitor.
I have it right here. The previous reclaimer made it this far. Unfortunately, there was a small flood outbreak and he died just like the other reclaimers," the monitor.
The monitor gave Retre the index and Retre walked up to the room's control panel. He was about to put it in when the monitor said something else.
"This is so exciting! This is this installation's first real firing. I will enjoy every second!" the monitor said.
Retre then put the index in the slot on the panel. There was a bunch of hologramic rings around them. The whole place lightly shook. There was a bright blinding white light.

Mitchell watched as they did a 360 in the air and crushed into an enemy banshee. The other hornets continuously fired missiles at the two phantoms until they burst into a cloud of flame. They took out the remaining Banshees and then watched as a bunch of drones supported by more banshees came at them.
Mitchell's team fired at the drones while the pilots focused on the banshees. He took out a few drones that were getting close to him, but one survived. It landed in front of him and was trying to grab hold of him. Mitchell then smacked it with the butt of his battle rifle. It fell all the way to the ground.
"Not this time, bastard," Mitchell said as he watched the corpse float down into the city below.
The Hornets took out the Banshees and his team took out the remaining drones. They tried to avoid the warships and covenant contact and flew just below the clouds.
"There is a marine base not to far from the city. We're gonna land there. We'll get blown into pieces if we stay here any longer," the pilot said.
"Roger that," Mitchell said back.
They flew away from the city and passed Old Mombassa. It was in worse shape than the other city. They flew above a lake for a while and then above a jungle until they landed on the landing pad of the base.
They jumped off and several marines greeted them. Then they saw a captain come out of one of the base's doors and onto the roof. They all saluted.
"At ease marines. I didn't think we would be lucky enough to get a few hornets and more marines," the captain said to Mitchell and his team.
"What's a captain doing here," Mitchell asked him.
"The covenant destroyed my ship. I was lucky enough to reach a life pod before it blew,"
"Sir, the scouts have reported that there are large groups of covenant infantry have been spotted heading in this direction," a marine said as he came through the same door the captain came through.
"Alright, let's get ready for heavy infantry assault," the captain said.

After the blinding light, Retre found himself on the floor. He got up and asked the monitor what happened.
"Apparently, I was wrong about you. Your DNA seemed identical to the recalimers' DNA. It didn't work though, so I must find another who can activate this installation. How disappointing," the monitor said.
"What will happen to me?" Retre asked the monitor.
"Before I can find another reclaimer, I must first dispose of the previous one," the monitor said as five sentinels came up behind it.
"No," Retre said.
"I'm sorry, but it is in my programming. I promise it will be quick," the monitor said.
The monitor teleported somewhere and the sentinels got ready to fire. They then released their golden-orange lasers at Retre.

The Fall of New Mombasa Part 4
Date: 26 October 2007, 3:46 am

Srg. Mitchell went into the armory of the base for more ammo. He and his team had been in the base preparing for battle for a half an hour. They did whatever they could to help everyone at the base out. The base had stone walls, a sewer system, armory, medical center and more. It had all of the things needed for combat, but the base wasn't ready for combat. It had no gates, shields, or cannons. All it had was all of its soldiers and equipment to protect it.
Sgr. Mitchell walked into a small room . Then the base shook. It then shook so much the lights went out for a minute. He turned on his COM and called one of the base's tech men.
"What just happened?" he said into the speaker.
"I don't know. A wrecked covenant battle ship crashed somewhere in Voi. It might have been the impact of the crash, Voi isn't too far from here and the ship was big. Strange though, the area most affected was the base's basement," the tech man told him.
"Mitchell, get down to the basement, find out what happened," the captain's voice suddenly appeared on the COM.
"Yes sir," Mitchell said back.
He then went down and took the stairs to the basement. It was dark there, and there weren't many people. The people that were there, though, were injured and had medics trying to give them antibiotics and shots. He walked down into one area and heard a noise.
The room was empty and didn't have many lights. Mitchell raised the shotgun he had found in the armory. He heard something move behind a cabinet. He looked around to the side of it and saw Parke there with a rat on his armor.
"Get it off, get it off!" the marine yelled.
Mitchell pulled the rat of Parker and threw it. He then decided to say a few words to Parker.
"Boy, you're really starting to piss me off! First the negative comment in the middle of battle and now a rat. It's a damn rat not some plasma grenade. If it was a plasma grenade I would let you yell "Get it off," all you want, but it's a rat," Mitchell yelled in his face.
"Sir, thank you, sir, for your nice little piece of advice. And yes, I am here for the same reason you are. Now can you be quiet, there's something in the next room," Parker said to him in a whisper.
"You've got a lot of nerve boy, now advance at the door way," Mitchell said to him.
They moved to the door and took positions on both sides of it. Mitchell gave Parker the hand signal to open the door. Parker lowered his Assault Rifle and touched the doors open and close button. The door opened and the two marines charged in there, guns raised.
There was nothing there. It was silent. The door suddenly slammed shut and locked.
"Damn!" Mitchell said as he hit the doors open button.
They were trapped. They suddenly heard a noise. It sounded like it was coming from everywhere. It was a bunch of gurgling and other weird sounds. Then a form came down from the ceiling of the large room. Then another and another. They all stepped out into the light to reveal themselves as flood combat forms.
"Holy shit!" Parker yelled.
"Stop saying that word and just fire that gun of yours," Mitchell ordered him.

Retre saw the glow of gold rings around him from the teleportation system and then he felt the familiar feeling of sickness. Good thing he only ate a light breakfast before duty. He looked around the new environment. Except when he looked around, it wasn't new.
He looked around the familiar corridors of High Charity. Except something was different. He heard battle all over the city. And it didn't sound like lead weapons vs. plasma weapons, what he heard was plasma vs. plasma.
Retre walked through a few more corridors and rooms to find himself on a large balcony outside. He could see the forerunner ship and the whole city. In the middle of the balcony was a battle between a bunch of brutes and three elites. Two of the elites were minors and the last one was a major. He joined his brothers in combat and fought until all of the brutes were on the ground dead. The major elite came up to him.
"Retre, I thought you were at Earth. Anyway, the most tragic thing happened. The brutes have betrayed us, they have killed our brothers and took our higher ranking elites," the elite told him.
"This isn't too tragic. The brutes would have attacked sooner or later, it was inevitable," Retre said to the major.
"Yes, you're right, but it was under the prophets order. And, the drones and jackals have sided with them. Some hunters and grunts are showing signs of betrayal, too," the major said back to him.
"The prophets? This cannot be," Retre said in disabelieve.
"Oh yes, they publicly announced it. Now that they have the Index, they breaking away from the covenant and using the Brutes as a distraction so we won't get to them.," the major told him.
"They were using us!" Retre said angrily, "All the prophets needed us for is to make sure they don't get killed. Major, I have seen the Oracle, or one of them. He said all of the humans are forerunner, or their ancestors. The prophets wanted them dead so they wouldn't be able use the gods creations, like sentinels, against us."
"Then we must find the rest of our brothers, and then find the humans. If this is true, then we were fighting our gods all along. They can help us defeat the brutes, and with them on our side, we will be able to use our lords creations against the prophets," the major said.
"Your right. As much as I hated the humans, they are our only hope. If the covenant is against us, we will truly fail. But with the humans, we might actually have a chance, and with them, we will be able to unleash the prophets' worst nightmare. Our gods haven't fallen to the flood, and they will not fall to these heretics," Retre exclaimed.

Sgr. Mitchell shot a nearby flood with his shotgun. Parker just panickly fired everywhere when a combat form got near him. There weren't just combat forms, but infection and carrier forms as well. When Parker was panicking, he would take out the infection and carrier forms, since Assault Rifles worked well on them. Mitchell worked on the tough combat forms, since he had a shotgun, which was known for its flood-pounding action.
They took out all of the floods that came at them, but more and more came, and they didn't have unlimited ammo. The flood were coming in from every part of the room, and they had Parker and Mitchell pinned down at one of the walls. Now that they were almost helpless, the infection forms started to come in. Right before they started to jump, there was a loud noise. It sounded like metal crushing stone. The flood stopped where they were and focused on what was happening. The ground shook, and then there was an explosion that made a hole in the wall.
A bunch of armored brutes came out of the hole with jackal at their side. The covenant troops jumped into the room and plunged into the swarm of flood. The flood took all their attention away from Mitchell and Parker and started to attack the brutes. Using this distraction as an advantage, they ran to the hole in the wall and took out the jackals that were guarding the exit.
There was a long passage way that led up, and they climbed it. The walls in the tunnel were made of dirt, making it hard to climb. It was also hot, probably because of the plasma the covenant used to make the tunnel.
When they finally got to the top, they ran far from the base. They had to get away from the base before the flood defeated the brutes. When they were half-way up the tunnel, they heard the screams brutes make when they die, which meant the flood were probably going to win and go after their lost prey.
Mitchell and Parker ran far and then stopped to catch their breath. Mitchell finally relaxed, but then he saw the translucent body of an elite with active camouflage. Mitchell grabbed his shotgun and aimed, but the elite fire its Plasma Rifle. The bolts went over his head though, to a brute who was about to crush Parker.
The Brute fell to the ground dead. The elite headed towards Mitchell and the sergeant raised his shotgun right in his face. The elite pushed it aside before he could fire.
"Easy, human, we're on the same side," the elite said to Mitchell.
"What, you elites almost killed me in New Mombasa," Mitchell said to the elite.
"You humans agreed to side with us. The brutes are our main enemy now," the elite said again.
"Parker, how long were we knocked out when that slip space rupture hit the city," Mitchell asked.
"I don't know sir, could have been days. I felt like I had a good night's sleep," Parker answered.
"The elite might be right," Mitchell said to himself, " Alright elite, if you're on our side, help us take this base from the flood,"
"Not yet, there is something more important we must attend to," the elite said.
Then Mitchell, Parker, and the elite disappeared into a series of the gold rings of a teleportation system.

The Fall of New Mombassa Part 5
Date: 2 November 2007, 4:22 am

Sgr. Mitchell, Parker, and the elite all teleported to the bridge of a covenant capital ship. The bridge was large and there were people everywhere. There were elites and humans, and they looked like they were getting ready for a big battle.
They were carrying weapons and equipment through, to, and from the bridge. Mithcell then looked at the bridge's view screen and saw the most amazing thing.
It was another Halo. Installation 07, the last halo ring. It was enormous, larger than any of the other Halo rings. Around it, were many covenant and UNSC ships, all classes. They must all be on the same side with the ship he is on, because they weren't attacking each other. Mitchell turned to the elite, very confused.
"What the hell is going on here?" he asked the elite.
"Yes, allow me to explain. My name is Retre Ownessy and this is my assistant, Yukke, standing next to me. I've brought you here to help us with this important mission. I have searched everywhere for an army like this and I have finally got it. That ring out there, is the most amazing, but most dangerous thing in the galaxy. I've been to its control room. It was larger than the other ring, the one the demon destroyed. The demon was doing the right thing, and today, we will follow his example. We're going to destroy it, together," Retre said to Mitchell.
"I still don't understand why I'm here," Mitchell asked.
"Ah, I know. I picked you because you are special. I looked at a bunch of stolen video recordings from various cities in Earth, looking for the best soldiers. We need the best for there will be flood on that ring. There always is," Retre told him, "Remember, in New Mombasa, how you survived without any fatal damage like everyone else did. Someone is trying to protect you, and I don't know who. Whoever it is has power on an enormous scale. I don't think you're meant to die, yet. Maybe it's because you're supposed to be here," Retre said.
"Okay so what do I do?" Mitchell asked Retre.
"Well, you're going to….," Retre said as the ship suddenly shook violently.
On the view screen, many slip space ruptures formed, and in a few seconds, the largest brute fleet ever seen appeared.
"Sir, forty brute ships just appeared. There cannons have been recently charged, they were expecting us," one of the elites on the bridge said to Retre
"Tell all ships to fire at will. Put the ship on Red Alert. Tell the ships to drop troops to drop troops at these locations on the ring. We must not let the brutes interfere. Sargent, the rest of your team is waiting in the hangar. I picked them up before looking for you. Take a Phantom and follow that group of brute dropships, their heading for the ring," Retre said as he pointed to the veiwscreen.
"Alright, Parker, let's move, double time!" Mitchell ordered.
Mitchell and Parker made their way to the hangar. They met up with the rest of his marines and then boarded a Phantom. An elite pilot flew them out of the hangar and headed to the Halo.
It was harsh out near the giant ring. There were plasma and MAC gun shots everywhere. He was surprised they had actually made it out of the hangar. They did what they could to follow the group of brute Phantoms and Banshees to the ring. They made it far, before the problems started happening.
A covenant Seraph fighter had spotted them. It locked a target on them and then started peppering them with plasma fire. The Phantom's armor was tough, it had survived most of the plasma. But it couldn't hold if it was under fire for a long time by such powerful plasma bolts. Eventually, its engine got destroyed and it started plummeting to the ground.
The Phantom fell a few kilometers before crashing on the ring. It crashed in a lush jungle full of wild live. The Phantom hit the ground with a nice loud THUD! Flames and debris flew everywhere.

Retre looked out at the view screen. They were doing well, but the brutes were doing better. While his ships took out a dozen of their ships, they took four-teen. They were heavily outnumbered, even with all the ships he had.
The ship he was on was almost about to blow. The Brutes were doing all they could to take the capital ship out. Retre had started evacuating the crew a couple of minutes ago. The bridge crew had to wait until the rest of the crew was out, or they would get trampled before they could even get to an escape pod.
"Sir, the crew has been successfully evacuated. What are our next orders?" an elite told him.
"Get to escape pods. That means you too Yukke. I'll stay here and make sure all of theship's data makes it out safely," Retre told everyone on the bridge.
They all left without question. They all knew Retre wasn't going to make it out in time. But they had to get to the escape pods before they became wasted, too.
Retre went up to a control panel, and started sending all of the data to the next command cruiser. After he was done he went up to the navigation console. He was typed in some coordinates and the ship started moving. Retre was going to crash the ship on the ring. It wouldn't destroy it, but it would damage it. He was going to make this ship go to go use. It would be a waste if it just blew up and left debris flying everywhere.

On the bridge of the Infinite Journey, a brute captain watched the warships battle on the view screen. One of his crewmen suddenly came up to him.
"Sir, the elite's capitol ship is heading straight for the Sacred Ring!" the crewman told the captain.
"Shoot them down. The prophet will not look kindly on any damage to Halo because of this battle,"

Retre suddenly looked up at the view screen and saw a plasma bolt from one of the brute ships heading towards him. He turned and ran. As he made it out, the bridge blew into flames.

Mitchell woke up inside the flaming troop compartment of the crashed Phantom. There was fire everywhere. The Phantom was apparently on its back since everything was upside down. His team was now where to been seen. The pilot, was still in the cockpit, apparently unconscious, and was surrounded by fire.
Mitchell, seeing this, crawled toward the cockpit. The alien bastard probably helped in destroying Earth, but he had to save it. When he made it to the cockpit, he reached out his hand and tried to grab the elite. The fire was burning his hands and back, his face was covered with black dirt.
He finally got a hold of the pilot and pulled him out of his chair. He then dragged the elite with him to the back compartment of the Phantom. The exit was blocked. Mitchell desperately tried to break down one of the phantoms walls. After almost a twenty tries, he finally broke the wall open a small bit.
He squeezed the elite and himself through the gap and crawled out, coughing. He looked up and saw his team looking down at him in disbelieve
"Well, what the hell are you guys looking at?" Mitchell said to them.
"Shit, we thought you were dead," McGarden said to him.
Corporal Spencer helped Mitchell up and handed him a cloth to get the dirt of his face. They handed Mitchell a magnum and a Assault Rifle.
"So what are we going to do with the elite?" Parker asked.
"Leave him here with Mc Garden and Scrapper. Me, Spencer and Parker are going to scout out, and see if we can find help," Mitchell told them.
"Alright, sir," they all said in unison.
"Alright, let's move out." Mitchell ordere.
They moved through the jungle. It was nice, peaceful, and quiet. There was wildlife everywhere. It was weird, such a peaceful environment on such a deadly ring. Before he could think anymore, he heard a noise.
Mitchell and the two marines with him crouched down and looked through a bunch of bushes. There was a small clearing, and there was a hologram of the Halo they were on in the middle of it. There were a bunch of brute minors, and a brute chieftain. He had his Gravity Hammer sitting on a rock next to him, and a Brute Spike Rifle on his belt.
"Our will attack here, here and here. This will cause a distraction for the elites so we can sneak in the Ring's control room and start the Great Journey!" the Chieftain said as he pointed at the hologram in the center of the clearing.
All of the other Brutes roared in approval. Mitchell snuck next to a rock with a bunch of spike grenades on it. He then took four, put three on his belt, and held one in his hand. He then moved into the clearing.
"Hey, jackass, Great journey my ass," Mitchell said to the Brute Cheiftan.
Mitchell then threw the spike grenade and it stuck right in the center of the Chieftain's red armor. Parker and Spencer then ran in, guns blazing.

The Chieftain blew into a smoking puddle of blood and spikes. Parker and Spencer were cleaning up the other Brutes really well; they were all down in minutes. Mitchell took out two Brutes and then went to his two marines.

"Alright men, we got more on our hands than we think. That Brute was talking to something and I don't think it was one person. So we're going to have to…..

Mitchell's COM suddenly turned on and after a moment of static, McGarden's voice went into his ear.

"We've got heavy contact, Brutes, Grunts, Jackals, the whole squad. Scrapper did went berserk and charged, and now he's down. High risk plasma burns. We can't hold out much longer. We need backup ASAP!"

"Rodger that McGarden, give the hell but leave some for us to clean up," Mitchell said.

"Alright marines, here's the scenario. Right now, our squad is getting their asses seared. So, it's our job to cool the heat, so let's go, double-time," Mitchell said to his marine comrades, " So, let's go do our job!"

"Sir, yes, sir," the marines yelled.

Retre Ownessy looked at the hologram of Halo from the bridge of the Lies and Vengeance. He had made a narrow escape from his dying ship, and made it to the battle/science ship Lies and Vengeance. He had been studying the ring for quite some time. The only light in the room came from the holograms in on the bridge and the small Halo in front of him. He wasn't alone in on the bridge, for he was accompanied by a science officer.

"What is this?" Retre asked the science officer.

Retre pointed at a circle on the bottom side of Halo. Author's Note: Retre doesn't know it yet, but these are actually closed forerunner structures featured in Halo 3. I'd make it more specific, but I don't want to put any spoilers in it. To help you out, this is the structure in the E3 trailer for Halo 3, and in the last cutscene of "The Storm" in Halo 3. The cool thing is that you can actually see these structures on the bottom of Halo in Halo: Combat Evolved, on the main menu.

The science officer looked at, but then turned back to the holographic panel in front of him, "Nobody knows what the anomalies and structures are. We had one Halo ring that would have given us tons of information, but it was destroyed by the demon," the science officer told him.

Retre made a low growl, "I was sent to kill the demon not too long ago, and I thought I was going to do it. It disgusts me that I have to be on his side. He is the last human I would help."

"Your greatest enemy, is now your greatest ally," The science officer said, "Just think of it this way, he's probably our only way to win this war,"

Sergeant Mitchell looked out of the cockpit of the pelican dropship and into the rain falling around him. He had successfully saved his fellow marines and was now on his way to another mission. Scrapper and the injured elite were on a separate dropship to a military base that was set up not long ago.

They got a replacement for Scrapper, some Private name Myers. He was new, so the team wasn't counting too much on him. They also didn't like him because he stood as a monument to Scrapper, who they might not see again.

They were now on their way to the control room. The Brutes were too close to the control room for them to stop them, so Retre had come up with another plan. The plan was to destroy the firing generators that the ring used to get power to fir, and from what Retre had told them, they didn't want it to be fired. Hopefully, the damage would stop the ring from firing until the generators could be repaired, and cause a little damage to the ring itself.

Unfortunately, the control was located in a swamp, were it was wet, and hard to see. The pelican hovered only a few meters off the ground and the marines piled out. It was like any swamp, misty, wet, foggy, and gross.

"I got water in my boots!" Myers yelled.

"You better shut it or I will shove a grenade in your boots!" Parker yelled.

"Better shut it Parker, or you won't have a boot in a few minutes," Mitchell yelled, "Now let's go marines. Stay sharp, just because the Brutes are ahead of us doesn't me we won't encounter them,"

The marines turned in the direction they were supposed to go. Mitchell though he saw something move in the corner of his eye.

Retre stood over the science officer's station, looking at the holographic display in front of him.

"What does it mean, guardians?" Retre asked.

"I don't know, the d
ata from the ring says that the guardians are heading for the control room to stop the intruders," the science officer said.

Retre had a bad feeling in his alien gut about that. He went back to his main control panel and looked at the display. It wasn't moving. The ship felt like it was moving. And not a direction he wanted to go to. Down.
