Note to Readers: Hello! Well, this is the first of several series about the United Confederation of Planets. Refer to Fan Fic: The Inter-Galaxal Wars if you no know about Confederation. Enjoy!

1200 Hours, May 21, 2580(Confederation Military Time)/
Earth Outer Defense Perimeter Station 281,
Outer Sol System

Acting Ensign 2nd Class Raypay, a Grunt from the swamps of the Grunt Homeworld(Nobody knows it's name), hopped up into his chair, and logged on to his station.
"Name," The computer voice requested emotionlessly.
The diminutive Grunt sighed. The computers were being given voices, individualities, emotions. However, this station had been floating before the Battle of Earth, and everything was dated, including the AI Computer Core. Nobody even bothered to renovate the dump! Well, at least they lowered his chair, he thought with a chuckle.
"Raypay," He said into the microphone beside the screen.
"Enter password," The voice ordered, and Raypay typed:

Yuna 'Yunalee

Briskly, as he had done for the last 60 times he logged on. It was all the same.
"Error. Reenter password please."
The Grunt sighed again, and more carefully typed Yuna 'Yunalee again. This time, the screen beeped in approval.
"Password accepted. Welcome, Acting 2nd Ensign." The warm words sounded a bit strange, with that emotionless tone.
While the Computer was calling up the screens, stats and other technical things, the Grunt thought of the Elite whose name was 'Yunalee. It was a strange bond they shared, that the Elite shared with the Grunts, Jackals, Brutes, and other Elites under his command, during the Human-Covenant War. He considered them all equals, treated all with respect.
Especially Raypay. For some odd reason, the seasoned Red Elite considered the Grunt to be his favorite.
Not surprisingly, Yuna was against the War, one that spoke out against the Prophets. And, because of this, an unseen assassin killed the Elite in the night, 30 Units, or 40 Years, ago. The Prophets feinted not knowing what had happened to the 'fine warrior,' but everyone who heard about it, knew in at least half of their hearts what had really happened. No one had voiced this, though.
Then, the Grunt went about his duties of sweeping Slipspace for mysterious signatures. He didn't need those probes to cycle in; Detection Gear was Certainly refined by now.
As usual, nothing out of normal; space dust, several Confed Ships, and an occasional meteorite of two that drifted into this other dimension.
This job was probably worse than anything, but the commanders called it; "A good place to learn the ins and outs of Confederation Craft, to be used later."
Then, the Grunt noticed a speck on the scanner screen, panicked, and reported it to the Lt in charge of the Station in 1 minute flat.
He quickly came, and discovered that the speck was from 2nd Class Ensign Santo's Subway Lunch. Apparently, he had been gorging on the sandwich, and a crumb got on the screen. You only notice the crumbs when the screen is in scanner scope mode, because of the pixel coloration.
Santo and Raypay were chewed out by the Lt for their blunders, and life went on as usual.
Until a mess of new specks appeared, about 13 minutes later. Raypay uttered towards the screen, "Oh, no. Not this time," And wiped the screen with a cloth.
The specks remained. "Better get the janitor up here," He said to himself, then he noticed these specks were moving.
A Confed Ship approached the blips, and the scanner lost it a second later. The computer registered energy pulses around the area.
It passed the outer stations, and continued on.
The Grunt sighed out of relief, and thought, Well, it was probably a meteor storm that got the ship. The pulses must've been electromagnetic disturbances, caused by it. Besides, if it was an enemy ship, we'd have known about it by now.
Suddenly, Red Klaxons and Lights exploded on deck, and the station was in pure chaos. "ENEMY SHIPS EMERGING ALL OVER SYSTEM; ALL PERSONNEL TO BATTLE STATIONS," Blared over the intercom.
Raypay typed a hasty set of numbers, and the computer's navigational banks were wiped; all backups sliced.
The mechanical Photon Cannon atop the station whirled around, and charged up, as it did with the other 98 Outer stations, and 80 Inner stations.
Space boiled, and an entire armada emerged at various points.
They all charged weapons, and the Confederation Fleet at bay in Scaffold, the massive ship dock around Earth, moved into battle.
All of the combatants fired, and lasers sliced through space in a brilliant spectrum.
Explosions lined Confed and enemy ships alike, as they burst into flames. The battle was total chaos, but both sides continued to lose ships and stations.
The only difference, was more enemy ships rushed in all the time; for every Confed kill, 2 more enemies came.
And so, in about 10 minutes, the Confederation forces began a retreat, the Fleet in pieces, scattered over the scene.
The enemy armada moved at Earth and the several massive Space Stations above it, and charged weapons.
Several brilliant explosions flashed, and the satellites in orbit ceased to exist.
Then, searing laser pulses fried all of Asia and some parts of Europe, killing over 900,000,000,000 people.
