Ishkabibbl's Story Part 1
Date: 18 March 2003, 8:52 PM
The warning klaxons blared as we exited slip space. All of a sudden the ships commander announced through the PA, "All personnel battle stations. I repeat battle stations. We have encountered the enemy upon entry to this system." I ran to my bunk and threw on my UNSC marine uniform and dashed to my squad's armory. As I ran along my friend Mark popped out from a side hallway yelling, "What's going on?!" Before I could respond a violent explosion rocked our ship The Fire Hawk. I hit a wall face first and was helped up by Mark. "Heh, nice face plant Ish." "Shat-up." He laughed some more as we reached the armory. I walked into it and immediately look for Skull buster, my sniper rifle. I found it and picked up a dozen clips of 10 sniper bullets. Mark on the other hand decided to pick up a shotgun and pistol. As I strapped my sniper rifle to my back I snatched an active camouflage device with a built in shield. I looked toward Mark and he nodded at me. It was time to go to the shuttle bay where our squad's custom pelican was. We reached the shuttle bay in a few minutes. Once there it was complete anarchy. Sergeant Wolf managed to "borrow" a scorpion battle tank and a warthog for our pelican. Oh yeah forgot to tell you about our pelican. It's usually referred to as Sweet Jenny because the pilots name is Jenny. Instead of the one vehicle attatchment we could carry two. Also our 15 strong squad had to have more seats added so our pelican was longer then all the others. With the best shield technology on it its very hard to hurt. Its massive ME VI engines it could do well over 900kph. With this sort of speed we were always receiving hit and run missions. There are more modifications that will show up later in the story. Anyways back to sarge. "All right men the covenants are getting ready to board our ship and as the best damn troops on this side of the universe we need to get on solid ground so we can kill some covies! AM I RIGHT?!" We responded with the expected, "Sir, Yes Sir!" Our pelican pilot, Jenny, told us to hold on. I was the scout of the squad considering I had my sniper rifle and holographic map so I grabbed my map and uploaded our current location. Lt. Jenny opened the comm. in the pelican, "All the carriers' escorts are gone." After this statement Wolf started barking orders to Jenny, "Hey take us down to the closest area with a livable environment." "Alright sergeant there is a planet about an hour away. I'm changing course." We all felt a slight shift as the pelican changed directions.
We touched down an hour later a little shaken from the entry but fine. I automatically sprinted to the nearest tree so I could do a good surveillance as the others set-up our new home for awhile. A small bleep on my motion tracker showed something moving about 30 yards directly ahead of me. I zoomed in on it but only saw a flash of sage green before it disappeared into the forest. I opened a comm. to the sergeant, "Sir unidentified object 30 yards and closing on your position." "Well why isn't it DEAD if its that close?" "Sir, it was sage green and it jumped into the forest as soon as I could see it." All of a sudden there was rustling below me and I saw a bush move. I activated my camouflage and hopped down. The rustling continued and I walked slowly towards it. All of a sudden a green blur jumped pass me with an assault rifle. From the small glimpse I had of him I knew what he/it was, a Spartan. I radioed the camp, "Sir unidentified object is believed to be a Spartan heading towards the pelican." I didn't bother waiting for the response I just got back up my tree and kept scouting the area.
At the camp the Spartan materialized and if Wolf didn't know he was coming he never would have seen him. "Sir, Good to see a Spartan around here." The Spartan stood there sizing up the camp. He looked around then asked, "Who is the commanding officer here?" Wolf said one word, "Me." The Spartan nodded and walked towards our ammo crate, crouched, and picked up a dozen clips of ammo for his rifle. All this time I've been scouting out the area and all of a sudden there was, "COVIES NINE O'CLOCK!" "Don't waste time, boy, and start shooting." I lifted myself to a higher branch for a better shot and started to pick off grunts. After four of them fell with holes between their eyes I reloaded skull buster. While I did this I heard three words, "WORT, WORT, WORT!" I lined up the Gold elite in my scope and clicked the trigger four times, reducing the elites head to a bloody mush on a tree. The remaing grunt looked around, shrugged his shoulders, and threw his gun at a bug and leaned on a tree awaiting death. I decided I liked the little guy. So I sprinted there before the other marines and decloaked. The grunt looked up and said, "You're really loud when you walk." He saw the shocked look on my face then saw skull buster. "You know human that you should get rid of those bullet lines. They really do give you away." I just stood awe struck that he wasn't afraid of me but finally I got the guts to reply, "Ha big words considering your entire group is dead!" The grunt just laughed. I just laughed with him then realized what he was. "You were going to kill us weren't you!?" He just shook his head, "Nah I was being sent here to be executed for killing a squad of elites." I just walked over picked up his plasma pistol and climbed a tree. "How about this if you were able to kill a squad of elites then dodge one sniper bullet. If you do then I'll give you your pistol back and you join us. If you don't well... you know." The grunt nodded and hopped to the left as the bullet struck where his head was a millisecond ago. I sat there awed at his speed. Finally I threw down his pistol and led him back to camp.
This is my first fanfic so please give me some feedback.
Ishkabibbl's Story Part 3
Date: 26 March 2003, 1:35 AM
There was still a lot to do but most work was done by techs. They hacked and wrote programs so the shade turrets and banshees would operate on their own in the defense of the base. I was usually bored because Hec was constantly modifying his banshee. One day after insane boredom I walked up to Hec and asked, "How's that banshee coming along?"
He looked up boasting, "It's not a banshee it's a shrike." He showed me it and it was WAY different then the banshee. It looked as if it could be armed with rockets and bombs. "Pretty cool Hec." Hec just nodded again and started working on it again. I started on my way back into the room I shared with Hec and Mark when a tech walked up to me. "Would you happen to know where the warthog would be?" I was surprised at this question considering no recons were ordered today. "No clue but maybe they found another downed pelican." He nodded and left. Once he was gone commander Wolf came on over the battle net, "Will my former squad report to the briefing room." I grinned, finally something to do.
In the briefing room we all sat down. I thought something was wrong when I realized there were only 5 of us left. "Alright men its time you were reformed under new leadership. Ishkabibbl you are the new sergeant of the squad. Your squad's identification will now be Lonely Wolves. You will all be given access to our pelican and scorpion. Everyone is dismissed except for Ishkabibbl."
As my new squad left I walked towards the commander. "Ishkabibbl you will report to tech Vick for special training at 0900 tomorrow. That's all." I walked out wondering what a tech could teach me. Once I reached the room Mark congratulated me. By now it was late so I went straight to bed. Later on I heard Hec walk in, but before I could ask anything I fell asleep.
I woke up at 0755 because Hec walked into my bed on his way out. "Damn it Hec! Learn how to walk sometime soon." Hec would have responded but he's done this so many times he gave up. He shrugged then left. Since I was up I got my shower and ate some breakfast. By the time I was done it was 0830. I walked down to the southwest hanger, he was the only one who worked in it, and said "Hey."
He looked up and started showing me his shrike. As it turns out it's a high altitude fighter/bomber. It carried capsules filled with plasma grenades that made a plasma bomb. It carried rockets on its wing tips and 4 fuel rod cannons on the center. He also talked about how its shields were as strong as our pelicans and its armor was made out of hunter's shields. I laughed and said, "Hope they don't attack soon." I walked towards the other hanger where Vick was going to meet me. I got there a few minutes early but Vick wanted to start right away. "Alright Ishkabibbl I've been assigned to teach you how to work with an AI and basic mechanics. Also your friend Hec will expand your knowledge in mechanics and covenant weapons. Do you have any questions?" I shook my head no and we started working. After a few weeks of training my AI and I got along fine. His name was Shadow and it was programmed to be a 'smart' AI like the Master Chief's Cortana.
After my mechanics training was finished with Hec and Vick, I got shadow to help me with some modifications to our squad's pelican. Once the blue prints were ready I started working. After about a month it was completed. During this time a few covenant attacks occurred but all were repelled with only a few injuries. I was called again to the briefing room with my squad to prepare to test the new pelican. Once we were all there Wolf started speaking, "Alright Lonely Wolves its time for your pelican to go for a test flight. Pretty much the flight plan is already laid out," He turned on a holographic map of the local area, "we will do some combat drills here," A marker appeared on the map, "and you will be inserted here, and evac will be here." More markers appeared. "Also you will be testing your skills. So your tank will coming along for the ride." My men looked angry at this seeing straight threw the commanders plans. We were going on a suicide mission. The area that they were 'practicing' was a massive covie hot-spot. The commander went through the rest of the plan and dismissed us. I called all our men to the southwest hanger which we now shared with Hec. The seven of us talked discussing the plans. "I'll cover you guys with the shrike." We thanked Hec for his willingness to go on our suicide mission.
"Well this is going to happen in two weeks right? You should get cracking on the tank. You need to fortify the passenger spots, and you better let Shadow handle the tanks weapons." Jenny borrowed my holo map and with a little adjustment the blue prints for the conversions were up. Everyone tried to chip in with the work, but most of it was done by Hec and me. We finished it after 12 grueling days of work. After getting Jenny to make sure the pelican could hold the tank, we went out on a test run close to the base.
"Alright men I'm dropping the tank now." Before the pelican even got to the ground 4 of us were out and running for the tank. I checked my combat timer; it took a total of 30 seconds. "Alright Jenny meet us at the evac zone. Hec stay on combat alert."
"Affirmative moving to EZ now."
"Starting scans, Sir." I got in the driver's seat and took off. "Ok everyone this is close to the base, but be careful they might be hanging around. So stay frosty." 4 affirmatives rang through my headset. We approached the EZ with no sight of Jenny. "Hey Jenny we're at the EZ come get us." Out of nowhere the pelican appeared and it was already landed. We all nearly screamed at it, but realized Jenny just added cloaking to the pelican. While she was chuckling she told us, "All right everyone buckle up." After a few minutes we were back at the base. We all felt good after the debriefing in the hanger and most of us went to sleep.
Ishkabibbl's Story Part 4

"Alright Lonely Wolves arm up and get in full battle gear. We're going to be on the drop ship in fifteen minutes." I started our briefing but Mark asked, "That's an hour before this operation is supposed to begin." I nodded, "Good thing someone paid attention in our briefing but I think we should try and catch them sleeping." After a few more minutes of briefing we went to the armory. Mark grabbed his shotgun and pistol. I loaned Skull buster to Phil because that's the only sniper rifle our squad received and I was driving. Max grabbed a weapon Hec customized for him. It was like an assault rifle but it shot plasma bullets. Rusk grabbed a jackhammer and plasma pistol. I snatched a plasma rifle and pistol. When we reached the hanger we started getting in and loading supplies. Out of nowhere Peter, the Spartan, yelled, "Wait! I'm coming with you!" We were relived yet now our battle plan would be useless. "Wait a second if you're worried about transportation I can go as fast as the tank." I nodded and made sure my weapons were close at hand. Jenny came over the comm. "Alright a boy ETA for the LZ is ten minutes."
"Hec here. There are about 10 banshees on an intercept course. ETA 5 minutes. Permission to engage?"
"Ish speaking. If you can take them then go ahead but try to finish them before we land. I want you to do a strafing run of the covenant ground position." "Roger that, Over and out." I looked around at my men and smiled. I just hoped we would all get out of this alive.
"Alright marines move out tank disengaged."
"You heard the lady men. MOVE, MOVE, MOVE!" We got to the tank in record speed and shadow was already dishing out punishment to the covenant camp. Out of nowhere a black ship flew over their base dropping bombs. Covenant screams filled the morning air. Our tank was unstoppable as it ran over all sorts of covenant. All hunters were blown to chunks by the tanks MAC. I heard sniper shots and saw elites drop like flies everywhere. "Covie drop-ship inbound. Ish should I take them out or strafe the ground?"
"Hec take out the drop-ship and any others that come but in between them strafe noticeable ground targets."
"Yes, Sir!" There was an orange streak in the sky as a drop-ship plummeted to the ground on fire. Fuel rod cannons tore through their defenses. 20 yards from the EZ we saw our pelican being shot. At first I thought, 'Hope the shields hold' and the second was a verbal command, "OPEN FIRE!" We killed all the attackers and boarded Sweet Jenny. "I have the tank. Here we go." After awhile Peter looked over at me and we started talking. "Good plan sergeant. Not a single casualty."
"Well sir, we knew this was a suicide mission so we planned for it." The Spartan nodded and I started the debriefing of the mission on the pelican. Out of nowhere the tank's cannon sounded and we heard an explosion. "Shadow what just happened?"
"Well there was an enemy banshee in my firing arc so I thought I should shoot it."
"Hey Hec where are you?"
"Sorry sir, just finishing off the covenant. I'm returning to escort duty now." Once we landed we unloaded all the supplies from the Pelican. Hec landed a few minutes later and he immediately started rearming his shrike. After he finished I dismissed every one except Peter, Jenny, and Hec. Peter spoke first, "I don't know about you guys but I think sending in a 6 person operation against a covenant camp was pretty stupid. If we didn't have the element of surprise and air superiority you would have died. I'm glad I came and helped you guys out. I will try to get reassigned to the Lonely Wolves." I nodded, "I think Wolf tried to get us killed off. That's why I want to make Sweet Jenny space ready. If need be we can leave Gishnovia and head towards another colony."
"Well we would need to requisition supplies to do that." Hec smirked, "Don't worry about that I have a nice stockpile of parts that I got awhile ago that are left over from the shrike. I do have one request though; make a docking pad on the top of the pelican for my shrike. That way I won't always be in the cockpit." We all agreed to this and started immediately. As it turns out having all those extra pieces saved time. In three days Sweet Jenny was space worthy and it could hold 3 years worth of food. The food unfortunately was more a liquid with all the needed things for a day in a cup. We had two years worth of water. After it was prepared I called our unit to the hanger and told them about our plan. Not a single person disagreed that it can't hurt to be prepared. The following day I was informed that Peter was now under my command. Also I was assigned a tech who happened to be Vick. I noticed how my unit was slowly being excluded from information. I called an emergency unit meeting in the hanger. Everyone came with everything that they needed. "Alright, we're being screwed information-wise and I think there's going to be another mission, yet this one is going to end up with us dieing. They don't see having us around as useful so I propose we leave!" We were ready in 30 minutes. Hec's Shrike was secured on the top in the mini-hanger and the tank was attached to the bottom. Once all our supplies and spare materials were in we left.
Ishkabibbl's Story Part 5
Date: 29 March 2003, 2:59 AM
It's been a month now since our separation from Commander Wolf and the 3rd Marine Battalion. We are all in high spirits and rarely argue. "Hey Ish I'm uploading this new planet's information to your map."
"Yeah I got it thanks Jenny." As I looked it over I saw that it was livable. "Hey Hec did you get that atmospheric shield up on the shrike yet?"
"Yeah Ish its up and running, why?"
"I want you to do a quick upper atmosphere scan of this planet."
"Sure, information received I'm in. Open hanger doors Jenny." We heard the mechanical whine of the door opening. While Hec went off scouting I did inventory. On my HUD our Inventory showed up:
Unit weapons Load Out
Available: 4 assault rifles All Customized Assault Rifles are silenced and have a Zoom scope Pistol ammo Peter-4 plasma grenades, 8 fragmentation grenades, Assault rifle (customized one), plasma pistol Max-4 plasma grenades, 8 fragmentation grenades, plasma rifle, plasma pistol Ishkabibbl- Sniper rifle , pistol , 4 plasma, 8 fragmentation Hec- Plasma Rifle, 4 plasma, 8 fragmentation, pistolJenny- Assault rifle (custom) , 4 plasma, 8 fragmentation, pistol Mark- 4 plasma, 8 fragmentation, plasma rifle, pistol Phil-4 plasma, 8 fragmentation, Assault rifle (custom) Rusk-4 plasma, 8 fragmentation, Assault rifle , pistol I was pleased that we had plenty of spare ammunition. "Hey, Jenny, pop open the hanger I'm back with a report for Ish." For the second time we heard the whine of the door. Once the hanger was pressurized Hec dropped down and gave me a disk. I pushed it into the ceiling terminal and it started. First there was a map with local terrain then it gave reports on the atmosphere. It was oxygen so I gave the order to land on an open plain. "Alright men get ready to set up a perimeter. Shadow takes the tank on a scouting mission." Once our perimeter was made Jenny cloaked the pelican. "Sir, I've found something that looks like an ammunition dump. You might want to head over here." I looked at my squad, "Hec get in the shrike and make sure there aren't any traps on the way. Mark, we're going to check it out everyone else stay here defend the LZ." As Mark and I were walking we saw Hec's shrike zoom off towards the nav point. It was a quiet fifteen minute walk towards the tank. Once we got there we saw dozens of crates full of covenant supplies. I grabbed the comm., "Hey Jenny bring everyone and the pelican over here we found some supplies."
"Hey Ish, I found a warthog over here you want me to bring it with us?" I laughed, "Of course!" There was a roaring sound and the pelican appeared and began landing. I walked over to the warthog which was in perfect condition. "Hey someone bring me my tools, I'm going to make this warthog better." Mark brought my tools and some jackhammers. "I figured you would want it to be able to do serious damage." As everyone else was gathering things and stowing it in the pelican I was working on our brand new warthog. I pretty much took it apart to salvage pieces. I rebuilt it with more weapons then any other warthog. Instead of one gunner there were two and they had shields built in behind them so they had extra cover. They each had control of one jackhammer and One LAAG. After a few more weeks on the planet we were ready to go. Now we had one tank, a warthog, and a shrike. On the last day we loaded up as much as we could and attached spare crates to the tank passenger seats. When Mark was getting on the pelican a sniper contrail led straight to his chest, but it came at an angle where it went straight through. He fell off the pelican, but wasn't hurt because of the armor everyone had. "Freeze right there." No one knew where the voice came from until a squad of Spartans stepped out of the woods. In a blink of an eye Peter grabbed skull buster from me and shot the other Spartans sniper rifle out of his hands. He walked over and asked, "Who are you?" The Spartan took a step back, "Peter!? What are you doing with these traitors?" Peter shook his head, "Andrew you got this wrong. The commanding officer tried to get us killed off on a mission back on Gishnovia. We had to leave for our own safety." Andrew's Hand stopped moving towards his holster. "Yeah I guess so Wolf did sound stressed when he asked if you guys made contact with anyone." Andrew called out to the others and they all gathered away from us. After 30 minutes they walked back saying, "We're thinking about joining you. Is that okay with you?" I just nodded and everyone got into the drop ship. Now we had a grunt, 6 humans, and 8 Spartans. The thing that bothered me was they were all in my squad.
