Halo: Aftermarch Chpt 1: Training
Date: 9 October 2007, 9:58 am
The setting desert sun brutally heated the barren wasteland, only a stone and a creature near it stood. The creature placed a hand on the stone and looked on a scratched part of it. The helmet the creature was wearing shimmered as the sun settled, the gold face plate was all the brighter from the light. An hour pasted and the creature was still there, but now was sitting resting his back on the rock. The sun was gone and a full moon rose to shine with the stars. A quite hum started up and soon became a small motor running. A small warthog like vehicle wheeled in and the driver walked out, his back straighten, as the creature at the rock stood, and saluted. The creature signed for the saluting man to stand at ease. The man's armor was a dark blue and his armor was Mark VI class, excepted for his helmet that was styled in a fashion where half the helm was visor.
The creature sat down in the passenger seat of the vehicle and the other one got in the driver seat. The engine revved up and the drove away. The passenger's emerald armor glistened in the star lit night. He looked at the stars, thinking of home and how far, yet close, it was. On both of their backs where MA5 Duo Riles, the MA5 Duo was a long ranged assault rifle with auto reload functions. The two front barrels shot one bullet at a time, one after the other reducing recoil and increasing range. MA stands for Magazine, it's called MA5 because in the butt of the rifle is a special clip holder that drops ammo into position once the clip in use is emptied. It had a mini computer that told your current ammo, your bio stats, current time and had a scope on top. It was designed for them, designed for true Spartans.
The Spartan driving was different then the passenger, so were many other Spartans but they all made one family that looked out for one another and fought as one. The vehicle slowed after 10 miles as it approached a dark and deep cave on the road at the cliff. The two Spartans slid into the cave. At the bottom of the cave they spotted a large transport aerial vehicle, its engine was running. Two Spartans where inside the cockpit and waited for the other two to attached the small vehicle onto the back. "Ready?" one of the Spartans said the two in the back nodded and the vehicle lifted off the ground and drifted upwards. The back hatch closed; only through a small glass window could the two Spartans in the back see what they were leaving behind, The Barren of Heroes most called it now a day. The transport ship flew up for an hour, and then they were in space, approaching a huge U.N.S.C. frigate named Liberation. The four Spartans glided into a hanger and when the filed out watched as they went through slip space.
After half an hour they arrived at their destination and the four Spartans got back in the vehicle after loading ammo for their Duo Riles. The odd Spartan looked at the time, 1:00 am. The four waited in the hanger for a couple of minutes then four more Spartans came in. The eight waited three minutes then a man in a marine uniform appeared. His voice was loud and clear as he shouted "You all ready?" The Spartans cheered in response. "That's what I like to hear! Now squad one you'll be getting the north side today, two you got north. This is your last training so make it count!" The eight roared in unison "Sir Yes sir!" The marine got in the cockpit and lifted off. The ship soared toward a small gray planet; it looked like a moon only this place was habitable. The vehicle hovered over a small fortification made of ten feet tall stone walls on top of a hill. "Squad one out of the Pelican!" Four of the Spartans jumped out. The pelican went down some towards another similar fort and shouted "Squad two go!" The rest jumped out, the odd Spartan was with them.
The odd Spartan heard a voice over his COM "Go easy on them Elite, no plasma." The Elite responded "Ok Major." The three other Spartans rummaged through the base, the Elite said "Do we have a Burner?" a Spartan checked the hanger, came back and said "Nope, we got a Hummingbird though." The four Spartans walked into the hanger and sure enough a Hummingbird was there. The Hummingbird was small in size but combined Covenant and Human tech very well. Its two gravity thrusters are like the ones on a Ghost, as are the front cannons. It had titanium shielding and a similar deck as the Pelican. It's namesake is well taken, for it's as quite as a hummingbird." If Squad one didn't have a Hornet or Banshee they could hit them from above. One of the said "Lets load up. Try and keep radio silence when we get there." The four Spartans loaded up all the ammo and grenades they could.
The Hummingbird started up and flew up the hill. It was quite for the short duration it was up the hill and sure enough no air resistance. The Spartans began jumping out, after the second was gone a missile hit the left engine. The Elite and the piloting Spartan, the same one from the earlier, were still inside as the Hummingbird swirled into the ground. The Hummingbird crashed into a valley next to the fort. The two Spartans managed their way out of the rumble and check themselves and their bio signs and gave the other two of their squad green acknowledgement lights on the H.U.D.s. The two on top the gave green lights two, they weren't detected, yet.
The two Spartans in the valley turned their radios off so they could talk to each other. "Well we got to get to Tom and Edward, what should we do Zawn?" Zawn looked up the valley, they could climb it but someone of the other team could be waiting. "Best if we try and find a path, Ryan." Ryan nodded and they started down the valley. After one minute they heard a loud engine roaring down the valley. Zawn and Ryan looked and each other nodded and ran to cover. Zawn was behind a large rock and Ryan flipped some of the loose carnage over himself. The vehicle was now here. Two Spartans from earlier piled out of the vehicle and began to search. One ventured to near to Ryan and Zawn prepared to move. As soon as he saw Ryan's fist swing at the Spartan, Zawn knocked out the one from behind. Zawn and Ryan looked at each other, nodded then walked into the vehicle.
Inside the large vehicle was twelve seats and a door that lead to the cockpit. They stepped into the cockpit and a beep was heard. Ryan and Zawn turned and leaped out of the cockpit. They two hit the steel floor, rolled out on to the dirt and they both were flung back by an explosion from the vehicle. Zawn lifted his head out of the mud, he sent his visor back so he could see. Ryan was recovering from the blast, chest up on the floor. This must have been Kevin and Bryan's handy work. Zawn got up and started to walk up the valley, Ryan followed behind after a minute. When Zawn found a passage he waited for Ryan.
As the two walked up the small cliff side passage they brought up mini maps on their H.U.D.s to check their area. They were in zone H-4 and the other twos last location was at D-1. This wasn't going to be too hard, it would be a challenge though. Zawn swung his MA5 into his hand. The clock said 2:42. So much time had passed in what seemed a couple of minutes. Then again they used to say time flies when your having fun.
