Evolution: Chapter 1- The Recruits
Date: 3 March 2004, 12:20 AM
This is my first fan fiction story so is not a lot of action. YET. This is just to introduce the charaters. Enjoy!
The conference room was dimly lit. In the middle of the room was a long mahogany table with nine figures seated around it. No one said a word as they sat there unmoving. The door of the room opened and in walked a white haired man wearing an navy blue and white uniform decorated with medals.
"ATTENTION ON DECK!" said one of the men seated at the table. As one they all stood up in attention. The man that just walked into the room walked to the head of the table and stood in front of his chair.
"At ease." he said and everyone sat down except for him. "I'm glad you all came." he said as he sat down in his seat. "As you all know we have just won the battle over earth against the Covenant. But now it is time to teach the Covenant that you don't come to earth and try to attack us. Just two days ago a probe we sent to follow the Covenant has reported back the location of their home planet Convie."
This news caused everyone in the room to start talking all at once. One of the men stood up, "But Admiral Johnson how come the Covenant was unable to pick up the probe on its scanners?"
"Why McCoy I thought you should have known the answer to that one since you are the top scientist around here." the Admiral said with a smile on his face. "The probe stayed close enough to the ship to avoid being detected."
"Excuse me sir." said another man as he stood up.
"Yes John." said Admiral Johnson.
"Who do you plan on sending on this mission anyway, sir? John asked.
"I'm glad you asked." said the Admiral as he pulled out a stack of folders from under the table and slid them down to John, "I have recruited the best that the UNSC had for this mission."
Admiral Johnson pressed a button on the arm of his chair. The middle of the table opened up to reveal a Holographic Image Projector (HIP). He pressed another button and an image of a young man hovered above the table. "This is Private Melvin Wade, code name: Firestorm. He does demolition, heavy artillery, sniper, assault, you name it he can do it. He has been in at least 23 Covenant battles. But don't expect him to show you any respect." Admiral pressed the button again and the image changed to an older looking man. "This is Sergeant Edgar Baker, code name: Sky. A very experienced pilot, know one can fly anything better than him. He has won 3 star ship battles, 13 Longsword battles, and even 4 battles using a Pelican. Plus he has never been shot down." The image changed to that of a young women. "This is Private Tiara Royal, code name: Rose. She is the best shot in all of the UNSC with any weapon. She has gotten more kills with a sniper than two whole marine platoons." The image changed once again to man looking the age around 20-25. "This is Private Herby Martain, code name: Rain. He is a water expert and has the best shot I've seen with a shotgun." The image changed again to another man. He looked almost the same as the first. "This is Private Trovon Martain, Rain's older brother, code name: Snow. He has the best shot I have ever seen with a assault rifle." The image changed once again to a very well built man. "This is Corporal Otis Fobbs, code name: Steel. A demolition expert and the most strongest of the team." The image changed again to 5 foot tall man. "This is Private Lamond Lewis, code name: Spark. He can fix anything, break into anything, and build anything with nothing but trash and a toolbox." The image changed to a another man. "This is Private Eric 'EJ' Johnson, code name: Blade. He loves to fight up close and personal with anything that is sharp." He pressed the button again and the image changed a young lady." This is the youngest member of the team, Ashley Valk, code name: Cross. She is the medic of the team. For being so young she is good at what she does." The image changed once again to a man." This is the finale member of the team, JaQuan Smith, code name: Quake. He can circles around anyone with any type of ground based vehicle."
"Sir." said John as the HIP turned of and slid back into the table.
"What is it John?" asked the Admiral.
"This team is great in all," John said, "but who will lead them?"
Admiral Johnson smiled at him. "Why you are Master Cheif John, Spartan 117."
John looked at him in surprise but quickly recovered. "Sir I would be honored to command this team."
"Well then," said the Admiral, "I guess it is time to meet your team."
Evolution: Chapter 2- Training Secession
Date: 6 March 2004, 4:28 AM
Alpha Base Training Facility in New York, Times Square
Master Chief followed Admiral Johnson through the sliding doors of the Alpha Base. He was fully dressed in his armor. He was finally going to meet his team and he was excited. After a few more twist and turns in the maze like hallways they arrive at a thick metal door. Admiral Johnson walked over to the control panel and pressed in the code. The door lifted up slowly letting sunlight flood the hallway. The first thing that Chief noticed was the sound of guns firing, grenades going off, and screams. When the door was fully open Chief saw a battle going on between a few marines and a lot of Covenant. Chief reached for his pistol but the Admiral put a hand on his shoulder.
"Let them handle it John." he said, "Your team need this training."
"Watch your back Spark," said Rose into her helmet's radio, "two Hunters coming up on your left." She saw that Spark was to busy a pair of Elites so she took aim with her S2 AM Sniper Rifle. The first two shots were deflected by the Hunter's shield. The third shot got past one of the Hunter's shields and caught it in the neck. The Hunter dropped dead to the ground. She aimed at the last Hunter and fired but the shot was deflected off it's shield. Her sniper rifle was empty and Spark had his back turned to the Hunter. It raised it's shield over his head ready to strike the final blow. The Hunter suddenly let out a roar of pain and it was easy to see why. Sticking right threw the Hunter's chest was a plasma sword. The Hunter fell over and standing behind it was a marine holding a plasma sword.
"Good job Blade." Rose said into her radio.
"All in a days work." said Blade waving his plasma sword in her direction then ran back into battle.
Rose reloaded and scanned to the other side of the field and saw what they were looking for. She keyed her radio so that the rest of her team could hear her, "This is Rose. I've spotted the Prophet in the west quadrant." She aimed her sniper at it and fired. A couple of seconds before it hit as if by magic the bullet turned and hit an unlucky Grunt. "Don't try to shot it because it's protected by a magnetic field."
She hooked her sniper up to her back and started to run down the hill she was on. "Hey Spark." she said into her radio.
"Whatsup." came Spark's voice over the radio.
"You think you can make some kind of weapon that won't be affected by that magnetic field?" Rose asked
"Can birds fly?" Spark said, "I'll have one ready by time you get down here."
When she got to the bottom of the hill Spark was just finishing up.
"So, what you got for me?" Rose said as she came up beside him.
Spark held up a bow and 11 arrows made from scrap. "These arrows won't be affected by the magnetic field but they won't go through armor. It won't go through an Elite's, Jackal's, or Hunter's shield or a Brute's armor."
"Thanks." said Rose as she took the bow and arrows, "We better hurry up before the others start without us."
Firestorm was running towards the spot where the Prophet was said to be. He shot any Covenant dumb enough to get in his way with his pistol. As he got close to the spot he put his pistol away and unhooked his flame-thrower. When he got there Sky was using a Banshee to fight the air troops, Steel was in hand to hand combat, Blade was using the plasma sword that he acquired, and Quake was using two field combat knives. It seemed like all of the Covenant had gathered here to protect the Prophet. Firestorm looked around for the Prophet but didn't see it anywhere. He activated his radio, "Has anybody seen the Prophet?"
"I saw him." came a voice from behind. Firestorm turned around to see Snow running up to him carrying a plasma rifle and right behind him was Rain carrying a plasma pistol.
"It went into that cave right there." said Snow pointing to a cave that the Covenant were guarding.
"Well let's see if it can come out and play." said Rain running into battle with his brother right behind him.
Firestorm watched as Snow fired at the Covenant with his plasma rifle. He saw that plasma weapons were not affected by the magnetic field.
A plasma grenade flew over Firestorm's head and landed on an Elite. It only had enough time to yell before in was blown up. He turned around in time to see Cross through another plasma grenade behind a group of Jackals. She reached in a bag she was carrying and pulled out another one.
"Got a whole bag full." she said to Firestorm with a smile on her face.
Firestorm turned around and ran into battle. He fired his flame-thrower at a Grunt that was running by. The Grunt caught on fire and ran to an Elite screaming. When it got to the Elite the fire ignited it's methane tank. The explosion killed the Grunt, Elite, and two nearby Jackals. Firestorm heard a roar behind him and saw two Brutes and a Hunter running after him. He fired at the Brutes catching their fur on fire. They stopped to try and put the fire out but were ran over by the Hunter. Firestorm fired the flame-thrower at the Hunter, but it just used it's shield to block the attack. The Hunter swung it's shield and knocked Firestorm's flame-thrower out of his hands. Before the Hunter could attack it screamed out in pain. It dropped dead with two arrows in the back of it's neck. Firestorm looked up to see Rose, with Spark, holding her bow.
"You owe me one." Rose said through her radio.
Firestorm pulled out his pistol and pointed it at her and squeezed the the trigger. Before the bullets reached her they turned and the sound of it hitting flesh was heard. She turned around to see the dead Jackal that was trying to flank them.
"I guess we're even." he said to her over the radio and went back into battle.
Sky had finished off all the air troops and was now dive bombing the Covenant on the ground. In five minutes the Covenant outside were completely wiped out. All that was left was the Prophet. They all walked up to the entrance of the cave.
"Let's finish this." said Firestorm and walked in.
Master Chief was just staring speechless. Hundreds of Covenant were just wiped out by a hand full of marines. They might just win this war after all.
Evolution:Chapter 3- Dragons Suit-up
Date: 22 April 2004, 11:46 PM
"All right, let's move." said Firestorm. They slowly crept forward into the cave.
Sky was getting nervous for two reasons. One he hated fighting on the ground. He wished he could be in the air that he was used to. Two they have been walking for two minutes without any Covenant encounter.
Firestorm suddenly held up a closed fist to signal everyone to stop. He motioned for Sky, Spark, and Quake to step forward. "There's something up ahead." he whispered to them, "Sneak up there and see what it is. If the Prophet is there roll in a couple of grenades to kill any guards with him, the magnetic shield should protect him. After the grenades go off the rest of us will hurry to you take out any survivors."
Sky, Spark, and Quake nodded and walk forward. They came to a turn at the and of the hallway and heard footsteps. Sky peeked around the corner and only saw the Prophet in it's hover chair. Then Sky saw a glint of light. There were camouflaged Elites to. He looked back at the others held up three fingers. He slowly counted down and took a finger each time he counted. At one they each threw a grenade into the room. The Elites shouted in surprise and the grenades exploded. They ran into room two bloody Elites were still standing with there shields gone. Quake took out his combat knives and threw them at the Elites. One Elite was hit in the neck and the other was caught in the head. Just as the Elites hit the ground the others came running in.
"Good job." said Firestorm walking up beside them.
They heard a moan and looked in the direction it came from. laying on the ground was the Prophet it's destroyed hover chair next to it.
"Steel," said Firestorm, "Tie it up." Steel grabbed a piece of metal and walked over to the Prophet. He bent the pole around it with ease.
"Game over." said Blade, "We win."
"Congratulations." said the voice of Alpha Base's AI, Joanna, "You have passed this training mission.
Suddenly the Prophet and the bodies of the dead Covenant faded away. The cave they were in vanished reveling a enormous room. the lights from the ceiling lit up the room. There was no sign that there was just a huge battle here. The new Virtual Reality (VR) room was the closes thing to the real battle.
"A wonderful job once again." came a voice from behind them. They turned around to see Admiral Johnson standing there with Master Chief. Immediately they saluted them. The Admiral and Chief saluted back. "I am still amazed to see humans without enhancements with the skills of a Spartan. That is why I have chosen you to for this mission. Your team shall now be known as The Dragons. This is the leader of your team, Master Chief John, Spartan 117."
Alpha Base Marine Barracks in New York, Times Square
Steel stared at the holographic game board trying to figure out the best move to use. He and Spark were in cafeteria playing a game of Dark Castle. He was losing. A crowd had form around them so he trying his best not to lose.
"I attack your Forest Horseman with my Burning Knight." Steel said announcing his move. The holographic image of a knight on fire charged a green knight riding a horse.
"Nice try." said Spark smiling, "But I reverse your attack with the magic from my Black Mage." On the holographic game board a magician appeared and shot a sparking blue light at the charging knight. The attack knocked it back into a tree and it disappeared in a flash. "All of castle defenses have fallen. Looks like I win again."
"Damn," Steel said angrily, "That's five times in a row."
Before Spark could say anything the loud speaker came on. "Would the Dragons please report to the armory immediately."
"Guess we better go." said Steel. They got up and walked to the armory. When they got there the others were already there with Chief and the top scientist McCoy.
"Now that everyone is here we can begin." McCoy turned around and reached behind self. Steel thought that he must have hit a switch because the next thing he knew the self slid to the side and the wall slid up. Steel was momentarily blinded by the sudden bright light. When his eyes adjusted to the light he was amazed at what he saw. They were in a brightly lit warehouse with gray walls. To the left of the room, lined up against the wall, were modified Warthogs, ATVs, Scorpions, and other vehicles. On the right side were all kinds of weapons. Some of them were taken apart and some looked like they would never work again. The wall was filled with bullet holes. In the center of the room was ten glass cases with armor in them.
"This is my workshop," explained McCoy, "were I develop new weapons, armor, and vehicles. Those ten armors in the right there are yours. They are the new MJOLNIR 2 battle suits. Your suits can recycle the air in space giving you an unlimited supply of oxygen and it lets you breath underwater. Plus I have specially designed them to suit you with your skills. Please put them on and I will explain what each of your armors do."
Five minutes later Steel stood in full armor. Everyone else also had on there armor. There armor looked just like the Spartan's armor except they had different color visors.
McCoy looked them over and started to explain their armor. "Even though you're not cybernetically enhanced like John here, you will still have speed and strength of one. Like I said at first each of your armors have special futures just for you. Sky can you step over here please." Sky walked over to were McCoy was standing. "Sky your suit is specially designed for you skills as an ace pilot. On your back is an jet pack that is able to keep you flying for at least 6 hours without a refill. To activate it all you have to do is press that button right there by your right ankle." Sky reached down and pressed the button. He instantly shot up into the air. He was heading straight for the ceiling and if he didn't do anything soon he go right through it. Sky leaned forward and he instantly went forward nearly scraping the ceiling. After a few minutes he got the hang of it and was flying around like a bird. He landed beside the others and even though they couldn't see it through his sky blue visor everyone knew he was smiling.
"Next is Rose." McCoy announced. Rose over to him a little excited after seeing what Sky's armor could do. "Your armor has a built in camouflage so that you can snipe the enemy with out being spotted. You activate it with that button on your waist. The camo lasts for only five minutes and takes 24 hours to recharge. Also your visor gives you vision like you were looking through binoculars." Rose pressed the button and instantly vanished she soon reappeared beside Firestorm.
"Firestorm step forward please." Firestorm walked over to McCoy very calm despite how excited he was. "Your armor has a built in flame-thrower right in the arm. Just squeeze your hand into a fist and it fires. It is able to scorch enemy forces that wear light armor, like the Grunts and a Jackal with out it's shield, its range and wide burst guarantees a direct hit on close range enemies. Well go on give it a try." Firestorm lifted his arm and aimed at the target in the shooting range. He squeezed his hand into a tight fist. The target was instantly engulfed in flames. The light from the fire shined on his red visor giving him a look like he was a demon from the flames. Firestorm quiet walked back and with the others.
"Next is Rain." said McCoy. Rain quickly walked over to him. "Rain your armor is made mainly for water. Those fins on the bottom of your boots enable you to quickly swim through water. Also while in the water your suit will absorb some and allow you to spray it from your wrist with the strength of a hose hooked up to a fire hydrant. Try it out on that fire over there." Rain turned towards the blazing fire that Firestorm had made could be seen reflecting off his blue visor. He raised his arm and dosed the fire.
"Nice." said Rain and rejoined the others.
"Steel can you go over to those weights over there." McCoy asked. Steel walked over to were he indicated and stood there. "A Spartan is naturally strong but you are much more powerful than a Spartan." Steel reach for the two biggest weights and lifted them with ease then he tossed them clear across the room and through the wall. McCoy acted like he didn't notice and countinued, "Your armor also much stronger than everyone else's." Steel walked back into line and flexed his muscles. Everyone knew he was smiling behind his silver visor.
McCoy explained everyone else's armor and there special abilities. Snow's armor could stand extreme cold. Spark's gloves were able to conduct electricity so that enemies would get quite a shock. Blade's armor increased his speed and agility greatly. Cross can keep track of anyone's vital signs, even the enemies. Quake's armor could create earthqukes in the direction that his finger tips were facing on the ground.
"Know that you all have your armors it's time to get your new weapons." McCoy said.
