D-Day: The Beach
Date: 27 January 2003, 5:17 pm
The two Pelican dropships descended through the atmosphere of Planet Hamen IV. The thrusters came to life and blew out streams of hydrogen gas that propelled the dropships through the O-Zone layer and into the clouds of the eden planet. In the passenger hold of the lead dropship, Private Kyle Nighthook slapped a clip of MA5B ammunition in his assault rifle. Cycling the bolt back and cocking the clip into position, he leaned back onto the cold, hard wall of the hold and closed his eyes for a few seconds. He was of average height and good build. Nighthook had no specialty in any weapon. He could use any one with amazing accuracy and precision. Some think he should be one of them Spartans, but he wasn't. He was a marine, and happy to be one. He opened his eyes and turned to look at Lieutenant David Jones, who was standing and looking at his squad. "We are going in with the second wave gentlemen. The first wave is already down there, and taking some major casualties. They are pinned down and need assistance. You smash the entire, you kill anything that doesn't speak English you get me?" he yelled over the sound of the engines. The entire squad nodded and said in unison. "Sir, yes sir!" The Lieutenant nodded, then sat down. Over the intercom radios positioned around the hold, the pilot's voice came in. "All right you guys, LZ coming up. Opening the ramp. Good luck" he said. Nighthook shifted in his seat and looked toward the end. The ramp that they would run out of was opening, revealing the endless ocean. The First Wave was pinned down on an island which had originally been there's, but the Covenant took it over. Suddenly, the view shifted to show their destination. The beach was a mess. The First wave had come down in two dropships, but only one returned. The other lay in pieces all over the beach. The Warthogs that had been dropped off as well were destroyed. The remaining marines were taking cover behind the wreckage and the boulders on the beach, firing blind shots up at the Covenant. The pilot maneauvered the dropship and showed them the Covenant briefly. They had a really good position. The hill sloped up into a hill, and the Covenant were on top of that hill. Four Shades evenly spaced out, protected by small shield barriers pelted the marines that tried to move up. A Wraith was at the very back of the camp, firing blind plasma concussion rounds at the beach. Two Hunters shifted around, firing their fuel rod canons. And at least four divisions of Grunts, Jackals and Elites ran around the boulders, firing at the marines. Nighthook shook his head. The dropship slowly began to descend onto the beach. Sand was blown out of the way as the thrusters pushed out hard to make the dropship hover there. The Lieutenant stood and jumped out first. Everyone else stood and ran, trying to avoid the plasma shots that were flying at them. Nighthook had to jump out to avoid being hit from a full spread of plasma needles. They hit the marine behind him and exploded. Nighthook landed hard on the sand. He painfully got up and sprinted up the beach, two other marines behind him. He jumped over the dead body of a marine and crouched behind two tires that were stuck in the sand. He turned to watch the dropship. It accerelated into the air and disappeared. The other dropship was about to follow when a plasma round from the Wraith struck it right on top. Two rounds from the Hunters and the ship blew up in two. The first half descended into the water, while the other half landed heavily on the beach. Nighthook felt plasma rounds hitting the sand and wreckage all around him. He gritted his teeth and ran up to a better cover position. He found two marines behind a ashened warthog and ran to them. They both nodded at him and continued to fire at several Jackals protecting a wounded Elite. Nighthook threw a grenade at them, then fired at a cluster of Grunts sneaking up on there position. They all dropped dead. He patted one of the marines on the shoulder and pointed to two Jackals teaming up on marines who were out of ammo. Nighthook and the marine fired, killing them both. Kyle then ran toward them, keeping himself low so he wouldn't be hit by the Covenant or his own people. He crouched near them. "You boys all right?" he asked, firing at two Grunts hoping to get some action. One of the nodded. "Yeah, thanks. We got no more ammunition though" he said. Kyle finished his clip and reloaded. As he did, he looked toward the destroyed Pelican and saw several marines salvaging ammo and weapons. He pointed to them. "They got some. Salvage some from the wreckage" he said, then turned around and fired again at another Grunt. The three marines stood and ran toward the ship. Nighthook took a break and looked around. The marines were all scattered across the beach, using anything for cover to protect themselves. What Nighthook needed was a working Warthog. He found that he was really good when arming the 30mm chain gun. He crouched up, looking around and saw what he was looking for. One of the Warthog's had obviously been blown apart, and the chain gun was still attached to a broken off piece. It was sitting behind a boulder, unused. Nighthook stood again, firing off rounds to cover himself as he ran toward it. If he could get that gun up and firing, he could take out of the turrets and maybe even one of the Hunters. A fuel rod shot struck the ground behind him, propelling him through the air. A group of marines screamed as the rod blast hit them and killed them. Nighthook hit the sand and crawled to the gun. Grinning, he righted it and slowly moved it out into the open slightly. Arming it and making sure the rows of ammunition were still in, he targeted one of the turrets and fired. The barrel turned and let loose dozens of bullets per second. The shields around the turret shattered and the turret itself flipped over. The chain gun was quite effective. Nighthook pivoted the gun and shot two Elites and a Jackals running toward him. Killing them, he targeted the second turret. The shields around it went down. He yelled at a marine running up the hill. "Grenade!!" he yelled. The marine nodded, then unpinned a frag. It landed behind the turret and exploded. The Shade flipped over and over in the air, it's operator way ahead of it. It landed heavily on the beach, destroyed. Nighthook got off the chain gun, then pushed it into a better position. He re-armed it, then grinned evilly as he pressed the firing buttons.........TO BE CONTINUED.........
D-Day: The Dunes
Date: 29 January 2003, 1:11 am
Private Nighthook fired the chain gun again. His entire body shook ever so violently; Kyle thought his entire body was going to fall apart. He stood straight though, to lower the amount of trembling in his body and aimed the barrel of the chain gun at the third Shade, which was slowly turning to target him. Nighthook fired again, ripping apart the shields that surround the turret. The Grunt that was operating it, jumped out at the last second, in which the turret erupted in a ball of red flame. Kyle quickly jumped off and began to push the chain gun into a better spot for which he could take out that last Shade. He put all of his weight into it, groaning as he pushed. The chain gun was heavy and couldn't be carried by four marines. However, it slowly moved to the right, so that it looked straight up at the last turret. Kyle took a break, breathing in hard, and then jumped back onto the weapon. He reloaded it, and then fired again. The turret however was already targeting him, and he felt plasma burn through the metallic shield that was implanted all around the gun. Nighthook swore to himself, but kept on firing. The impacts of the plasma bolts were affecting his aim greatly. He tried to steady the gun, but it kept on moving out of position. The turret's shields were gone, but it was still moving. A plasma round struck Nighthook in the arm. He immediately let go and fell backwards, screaming in pain. The plasma melted the armor around his biceps and burned patches of his skin. Blood seeped through the wound and into his combat uniform. Kyle winced and did his best to patch up the wound. Ripping off other parts of his uniform, and using the wet sand as a sealant, he created an odd looking bandage that served well. He stood up and was about to re-arm the nearly destroyed chain gun, when the turret exploded. Kyle shielded his eyes from the brilliant light, and then looked around. A marine, positioned near the bottom of the dune hill was reloading a Jack Hammer launcher. Kyle jumped off the chain gun and took out his assault rifle. Grabbing a pistol along the way and several plasma grenades, he charged up the huge sand dune where the Covenant was positioned. As he did this, he could hear marines behind him doing the same, cheering in victory. As he reached the top, Kyle reloaded his assault rifle, and then crouched to the ground as he peered over the top edge of the hill. The Covenant had set up some sort of radio base camp here. A small circular encampment off communication boxes and odd looking satellites made up the camp, along with more shield barriers. A group of Jackals and Grunts ran out of the camp and stood near the Covenant tank that was moving forward. The two Hunters were slowly moving forward as well. Kyle unpinned two frogs, throwing them both at the camp, and then took out all of his plasma grenades. He threw two of them at the Hunters, then the remaining two at the Covenant tank. He then stood up, taking out his pistol and running toward one of the wounded Hunters, which was using its huge battle shield as a melee weapon. It hit a marine right on top of the head, crushing the man's neck, brain stem and sticking him into the sand. The Hunter saw Nighthook and charged at him. Kyle reloaded his pistol and stood ready. The Hunter put all of its weight on one foot and literally jumped at Kyle, swinging its shield. Quickly, Nighthook leapt aside, running around the Hunter and aiming at a small spot of orange flesh that was protruding underneath the armor. He fired. The Hunter let out a scream and a long growl, the toppled off the dune, dead. Nighthook reloaded, and then turned around to see four marines rush forward and all get blasted backwards. They all flew in different directions of the dune. Kyle quickly dove behind one of the destroyed Covenant communication boxes and felt the ground tremble as another plasma round fired from the tank struck the ground. He looked up to see more marines being blasted off the hill. Swearing, he stood and unpinned three frag grenades. They all landed around the tank, exploding. The tank was weakened extremely. Smoke was billowing out from the holes in it. All of the Covenant around it were dead. Kyle threw up his last frag and caught it. He then ran forward, running straight at the tank. It was preoccupied with several marines firing their assault rifles at it. Kyle ran even faster, and then jumped, landing on top of the tank. It swerved around, trying to hit Kyle, but couldn't. Nighthook unpinned his last grenade, and then threw it inside the tank via the opening and closing hatch that held the firing turret. Turning with his left foot, he jumped off the tank with his right leg and landed on the sand. Standing quickly, he ran a few steps, and then dove forward. The turret itself exploded, followed closely by the rest of the tank. The tank slumped onto the ground, smoke billowing out of holes from the grenades. Kyle stood, smiling, then ran off to the other side of the dune hill. The rest of the marines followed. The remaining Hunter had been blasted into dozens of pieces by four frag grenades thrown by marines. Nighthook reached the edge of the hill and was about to run off the hill, when he stopped. The other dunes that made up the beach had odd shaped sand hills placed on some of them. Facing Kyle, four dunes had these oddly shaped hills. He squinted slightly, looking at the hills in front of him. They were starting to move. The marines were already on that dune hill and were noticing this odd movement too. Suddenly, Covenant Elites could be seen standing behind the three hills. They all growled, grabbed the bottom of the hill and pulled. The hills were camouflage blankets, disguising Shade gun turrets. The other hills on the dunes became turrets as well. Suddenly, teams of Covenant Ghost bikes soared through the air and took positions around the Shades. The Elites that had removed the blankets jumped into the Shades and turned them to aim at the marines. Kyle's eyes went wide. "Get down!" he yelled. There were around 15 marines on the hill with Shades. They all started to turn, but the turrets opened fire first. The plasma bolts and lances went right through all the marines, killing them instantly. While they all dropped, the other Shades targeted the marines around Kyle. Nighthook quickly dropped to the ground, as a volley of plasma rounds went over his head. He stood up and sprinted back. Marines around him were falling dead. They took a hint from Kyle and ran as well. Kyle was going far though. The Covenant radio camp, although destroyed, still had large metal rectangular prisms that were placed around the original camp. Kyle dropped low behind one of them, turned and fired his assault rifle briefly. He stopped, sighing. Not only were they out of range, but various types of Covenant warriors were placed more shield barriers around the Shades. The Ghosts merely maneuvered out of the way of any projectile fired at them. Nighthook looked around. They needed some form of armor on this beach. Problem was: any dropship that tried to move in would most likely be destroyed by the Shades. There were around 12 of them, spaced out on the dunes in a diamond shape. That totaled 8 Ghost bikes as well. Kyle stood up and ran to the other side of the dune, looking down at the beach where they came from. There was no way a Warthog or a tank could make it up to where he was. Not only was there the obstacles, but the steepness of the dune was too great. He ran back to the remaining marines gathered around the camp and found the only surviving high ranking officer. Lieutenant David Jones looked up from his spot and nodded at Nighthook. "Private Nighthook! Good to see ya son" he said, returning the salute given to him. Kyle nodded. "Sir, we are in a tight situation. Those shield barriers prevent any of our bullets getting to them, and we don't have a person here who can throw a grenade that far. The Jack Hammer's are all empty, and we are running low on ammo" Nighthook said, looking around him and pointing as he spoke. The Lieutenant looked around too and started pointing at marines. "Okay, we got around 26 marines left. Jesus, that's not a lot" the Lieutenant said. He looked around once more, and then stood up slightly. "Marines! My name is Lieutenant Jones of the Second Wave. Seems like I'm the only commanding officer here. I am taking charge of all of you. You take orders from me or my Corporals!" he yelled. All the marines looked at him and nodded some even cheering. Nighthook tapped the Lieutenant. "Sir, all the Corporals are dead" he said. The Lieutenant looked at him. "Not any more. I'm promoting you to Corporal Nighthook. Grab four other men and promote them" he said. Kyle smiled, and saluted. "Yes sir" Nighthook then carefully crawled around the boxes, heading for a private he knew. "Private O'Neil!" he yelled over the sound of gun fire. The private turned and crawled toward him. "Yes sir?" he said, saluting. Kyle returned it. "I'm promoting you to Corporal all right? We take orders from the Lieutenant and give them to everyone else" he said. The marine smiled and nodded. Then his face went serious. "Just us?" he asked. Kyle shook his head. "No, I gotta promote three others" he said. O'Neil nodded. "Let me promote two of them, you get one more" he suggested. Kyle nodded, and then left the new Corporal to find one of his good friends. Private Charlie Cunningham was trying to peg off Elites with his pistol. He swore out loud and reloaded it. Kyle tapped him on the back. "Cunningham, you are promoted to Corporal. We take orders from the Lieutenant, give them to the others got it?" he said, looking at the man. Charlie looked at him and nodded. "Got it Night. Man, are we fucked or what?" he said. Kyle shrugged. "Just be ready and keep up the good work" he said. Charlie nodded, and then continued to fire. Kyle went back to the Lieutenant. He looked over at O'Neil, who gave him a thumbs up sign. Kyle nodded. "Sir, you have 5 corporals at your command" he said. Jones looked at him. "Good, well done" he said merely. Jones started looked around again. Kyle cocked an eyebrow. "What is it sir?" he asked. Jones looked at him. "I need a radio. We need orders" he said. Kyle grabbed a private. "You got radio?" he yelled. The marine nodded and handed him a small phone connected to the radio box in the equipment pack he carried. Kyle handed the phone to Jones, who looked at the marine. "Patch me into the battle group" he said. The marine nodded, and fiddled with several knobs on the radio he took out. He nodded again. Jones started talking. "This is Lieutenant David Jones of the Second Wave to Battle group, come in please" he said. There was a moment of static, before a voice answered. "Roger Lieutenant, this is Colonel Brown of the cruiser Gamma Wing, go ahead" he said. "Sir, First and Second Waves are ineffective. We have taken the first dune in front of the beach, but all the other dunes down here are being used as firing positions for the Covenant. They have Shade gun turrets and Ghosts, not to mention a lot of infantry. We are pinned down and either need supplies or more men" he said. There was another hiss of static, and then a voice returned. "Roger that Lieutenant, your situation is understood. Do you believe it is possible to land armor on the beach?" he asked. The Lieutenant looked up at Kyle, who immediately shook his head and pointed to the beach. Jones nodded. "Negative, a dropship would either be shot down by the turrets, or the armor would be stuck, trying to get up that hell of a mess beach" he said. The Colonel returned. "Jesus, you boys are in a tight situation. All right, we will forgo the armor for now, but get you some reinforcements down there. We will use parachutes to drop you some supplies. What do you need?" he asked. Jones smiled. "Everything sir. Ammo, grenades, sniper rifles, Jack Hammers, assault rifles, pistols, medical kits, surgeon kits, the whole lot. We are hit pretty bad here sir" he said. "Well, that may take a few seconds, so don't expect it right away. I am sending you the Third wave, and, some other people. The supplies will come later, understood?" he said. Jones smiled again. "Roger that sir, understood, out" he said. The Lieutenant handed the radio back to the marine, then crouched up. "Gentlemen, in a few minutes we are going to be reinforced with the Third wave and after that, a huge amount of supplies" he said happily. The whole group cheered. Jones waited for silence. "Use your pistols to try to pick them off, or just scare them with the assault rifles. Don't use to much though" he said. The marines all cheered and began to open fire. The Lieutenant crouched back down, smiling. He looked at Kyle. "Get ready to usher those reinforcements over here" he said. Nighthook nodded, and then ran of toward the beach. As he did, he took a moment to look around. All of the wounded were gathered near the first destroyed Pelican. The passenger hold was being used as a small hospital. There were using lots of wreckage as cover and protection. The field medics had around six marines helping them out. The ammo dump that had been there was gone, all used up. Kyle overlooked the wounded. He winced in pain as he looked at them all. Broken limbs, missing limbs, wounds from shots, and several marines had lost their eye sight, another had no hair. Blood was leaking all over the place. Kyle patted one of the field medics on the back, who was holding onto the hand of a now dead marine. Kyle nodded. "You did all you could medic. You did all you could" he repeated. The medic nodded and continued to sit there. Kyle suddenly heard the roar of engines and looked towards the sky. Three Pelican dropships were moving in. They hovered over the beach for a moment, before slowly descending, the passenger ramp opening. Kyle cocked his eyebrow. The Third wave only filled up two Pelicans. Why was there a third? He shrugged, then ran toward them. The Third wave consisted of marines and Special Forces. The leader, Lieutenant Jonathan Carlson ran up to him. Kyle saluted. "Lieutenant Carlson, welcome to hell" he said. Jonathan chuckled. "What's up Corporal?" he asked. Kyle pointed to the dune. "We are up there, using a Covenant radio camp as a staging area. There may not be a lot of room for you and all your men, so you may as well keep some here near our hospital" he reported. Carlson nodded, and then turned to his men. "First and Second platoons with me, rest of ya, stay here with the hospital, we will call you if assistance is needed" he yelled. The marines cheered and followed the Lieutenant. The dropships took off, and the third one touched down. Kyle walked over toward it and watched. The ramp lowered and six figures stepped out onto the beach. Kyle suddenly realized who they were and stood straight, saluting. The six Spartan III's walked toward him, the lead one returning it. Kyle smiled. "Master Chief Sir! Good to see ya" he said. The huge behemoth nodded and looked around. They wore a sandy brown type of armor, obviously to be used as camouflage. The Master Chief looked at Kyle. "What's going on Corporal?" he asked. Kyle pointed to the dune. "Rest of us is all up there sir. Covenant have us pinned down good. 12 Shade gun turrets, 8 Ghost bikes, and a hell of a lot of infantry. They are using the other dunes surrounding that one to pin us down. We can't even stand up without being shot. The Covenant radio camp up there is providing us with cover and protection, but we are running out of room" he reported. The Master Chief nodded. "Tell your Lieutenant that we are here to coordinate an attack plan along with the marine core. Your help is definitely needed in this situation" he said. Kyle saluted. "Yes sir. I will" he said. Kyle turned swiftly on his heel and ran back up the beach, toward the dune. He looked around briefly to see the Spartans head toward the hospital, obviously to strategize. Kyle reached the top, nearly out of breath and dropped low. He crawled toward Lieutenant Jones, who was chatting with Lieutenant Carlson. Kyle saluted, then nodded toward the beach, smiling. "Spartans are here sir" he said happily. Jones eyes went wide with amazement, and he leaned up, trying to see. "Jesus, this is serious. They here to help?" he asked. Kyle nodded. "They are here to coordinate an attack plan with us to wipe out the Covenant" --..TO BE CONTINUED--.
D-Day: Reflection
Date: 29 January 2003, 11:36 pm
The Lieutenant nodded upon hearing the news from Corporal Kyle Nighthook, and then turned to chat again with Lieutenant Carlson. Kyle immediately crawled across the sand towards his friend, Corporal Charlie Cunningham, who was still using his pistol to take out the Covenant. Like always, it wasn't working. Kyle made sure he stayed low and leaned his head against the huge pillar box that lay on the ground. He looked up at his friend. "Any luck Chuck?" he asked. Cunningham shook his head and reloaded. "Nothing. They keep on hiding behind those damn shield barriers. Can't get a shot. I've wounded a Grunt though" he said, shaking his head. Nighthook patted him on the shoulder. "Keep at it" he said. Charlie nodded, and then continued to fire. As Kyle turned his head, he heard loud gasps all around him and lots of whispering among the marines. Kyle sat up slightly and nodded at what the marines were looking at it. The six Spartans that had just been dropped off emerged from the beach and spread out around their small encampment. The Master Chief was crouching with Lieutenant Jones and Lieutenant Carlson, obviously to make up some sort of plan. Kyle took a moment to relax and think. It was the year 2689 on a Tuesday evening in early June, by Earth standards. Kyle had grown up on Earth. His families were very wealthy and known by many. His father was an aeronautics scientist who worked on the various vessels and vehicles used by the UNSC. His mother was a highly trained surgeon, so because of these two amazing jobs, they were well "loaded." They were great parents though and Kyle missed them a lot. They sent him to a regular public school and not one of those private ones where kids are all snotty and rude. Kyle made lots of friends there and did well in school. He went to William Browning High School, were he passed every course he took, making honors a few times. His parents were proud of him nonetheless, even when his marks slipped one year slightly, he brought them back up. When he graduated from High School, he became troubled. Lots of his friends went off to join the Marine Core, and pretty much all of them died. Corporal O'Neil and Corporal Cunningham were his only high school friends left, out of over ten. He missed them all. Kyle back then had no idea what to do. His parents merely gave him advice of where to go and what to be, and let him decide what he wanted to do. Although this helped Kyle slightly, he still had no idea. It was when the Covenant came to Earth in 2704 when he decided. During his time of thinking and deciding, he heard a lot about the Spartans and wondered what it would be like to be one. He wasn't into firing a weapon or killing people, didn't like violence. However, when the Covenant came to his neck of the woods and slaughtered his family, he made up his mind. He returned home to find his house in ruins and his parent's body parts all over the place, but Kyle did not cry. He picked up a kitchen knife and literally slaughtered a small group of Grunts and Jackals coming down the street. After he killed them, he ran. He ran to a rental car shop that was almost right down the road and stole one of the hover cars they had. Using it, he "drove" to the nearest UNSC outpost and signed up to be a marine. He didn't receive much training though, especially in that time of crisis. He was shown how to put on his armor, load an MA5B assault rifle and told about the species of the Covenant. That was it, but to Kyle, that was all he needed to know. He was put in a platoon of marines and sent off on a mission. They were sent to a residential forest park just outside of Michigan, to take out a Covenant convoy moving through that area. They were dropped off on a mountain in the middle of the park, which was marked as a memorial area. The platoon had several snipers, which immediately hunkered down and starting taking out the Covenant. Meanwhile, Kyle and the rest of the platoon headed for the ground and attacked the Covenant from the stream that circled the mountain. The ambush worked great and the convoy was destroyed. Too bad that the convoy had extra protection. A division of Covenant, two Ghost bikes and a Banshee ambushed the platoon as they awaited pick up. They were able to find a group of boulders and rocks at the bottom of a large hill and hide out in there from the Banshee. The Covenant moved in and circled around them, firing at their position. Over half of the platoon was killed. Kyle was still a private then. He grabbed two guys he knew and together, they threw all the frag grenades they had, which wiped out lots of the clustered Covenant. They had one Jack Hammer round left, so Kyle took control of that. Several marines created a diversion by firing at the far left flank of the Covenant, taking them all out. The Ghost bikes clustered together and returned fire. The moment the bikes nudged, Kyle fired. The rocket round struck the lead Ghost, destroying it, but the bulk of the blast of the rocket and Ghost struck the other Ghost, disabling it and knocking out it's pilot. The remaining marines charged out of their hiding place and took out the rest of the Covenant. They used various diversion and maneuvering tactics to evade the Banshee. It was taken out by the legendary Master Chief, the only surviving Spartan II. He moved in and took out the remaining Covenant and stayed with them until a Pelican arrived. He didn't join them back to the Outpost though. That was the last and only time Kyle saw him. Later on, while they were finishing off the last of the Covenant on Earth, he had heard he had died, taking out the Covenant cruiser that was orbiting the planet. Before his current mission he was on, Kyle had fought in four other major battles. The humans were slowly starting to fight back against the Covenant and were regaining their earned territory. Hamen IV was a planet in a solar system that was pretty much just beside the Milky Way. They had over half of this one taken over, and several other solar systems nearby were starting to be invaded by them. Kyle had heard that the Covenant were having problems with the Flood, which was good. The first mission the Spartan IIIs had was to land on the Alpha Halo which was being moved into the Milky Way by the Covenant, and let loose the Flood. The plan worked perfectly. They got out of there and the Flood engaged the Covenant on Halo, wiping them out and taking over several of their vessels. Luckily for the humans, the Flood took their three captured Covenant vessels and left. A small group of UNSC destroyers and frigates moved in and destroyed Halo. So, the humans were now just trying to get back their territory and trying to stay alive. The Spartan IIIs were doing good jobs in various ground missions. They pretty much took back the Milky Way. They killed Covenant bases and outposts on planets, and killed the crew of a Covenant ship. After that, they would plant nukes all over the ship, and detonate them when in the weapons locker of a UNSC ship heading in the other direction. Kyle was now on Hamen IV, helping the UNSC in conquering this once human controlled island. Wish it was a little easier he though. Kyle's eyes snapped open and he sat up slightly. Charlie was tapping him on the shoulder. "Come on, Lieutenant wants us" he said, and then crawled off. Kyle nodded, rubbing his eyes, and then crawled after him. Lieutenant Jones had called all of his Corporals to him. They sat in a circle, keeping their heads down from the plasma flying over them. Five Corporals, two Lieutenants and the Master Chief. Lieutenant Jones nodded at them all. "Okay, these assholes are kicking out butts, so we need a plan. Here's what we and the Master Chief have been able to think out. The Covenant have positioned those turrets and Ghosts on the hills in front of us in a diamond shape. The one in front of us, one behind it and two to the left and right. So, we figure that if we were able to take out the one in front of us and the one off to the right, a Pelican would be able to land successfully on the beach and drop off some armor. The other two firing groups couldn't hit it, because it would be moving to fast, that and they are pretty far away. Problem we have is that those two firing groups are pinning us down and preventing that armor. So we gotta take it out. Any ideas?" the Lieutenant asked, pointing toward the designated targets. Kyle could see the Corporals think for a moment. He did too. He had spent too much time looking back on his and Earth's past. Corporal Cunningham spoke first. "There's no way in hell that one of our guys could run forward away from this protection area and throw a grenade, he would be slaughtered the moment he stands" he pointed out. Everyone nodded to that. Kyle suddenly thought of something. "What if he was somewhat below the firing squad?" he suggested. They all looked at him, confused. "Elaborate Nighthook" said Lieutenant Carlson. Kyle looked around him. "Well, what if we got a group of guys in between the dunes. We could probably send a group of either marines, or the Spartans around this dune, on the beach and they could hide out in where the two dunes meet you know? They would position themselves so that they were facing that dune, and their backs would be to us; expect they would be below them. It's kinda hard to explain, and that's the best I can explain it" he said, motioning with hands as he spoke. Everyone stopped to think for a second. They occasionally looked up at each other. The Master Chief stirred. "The Corporal has a good idea. Myself and my Spartans could positions ourselves in the middle of those dunes. You would be on the beach still, but looking up at the dunes" he said, nodding at the Corporal. Lieutenant Jones nodded. "Geez, why didn't we think of that before, that's so easy" he said. The Master Chief shook his head. "These dunes are very big Lieutenant. It would take us a few hours to walk around the entire down, and then quietly sneak in between them. The sand makes fast mobility virtually impossible" he pointed out. Lieutenant Jones nodded. "Yes, of course. All right, here's what I propose. The Spartans begin moving around the dunes and when they are in positions to start advancing in between them, the marines will provide some continuous cover fire, which will keep the Covenant glued on us. The Spartans can then climb the dune, and plant their grenades. We will do the same for the second firing squad. That sound good?" he said, looking around at everyone. They all nodded and grinned. Jones nodded, and then crouched up. "All right Chief. Wait for that supply shipment, re-stock on some arms, and then proceed" he said. The Master Chief nodded, then crawled towards his Spartans, tell them the plan. Kyle headed back to original cover place with Cunningham. Charlie nodded at him. "Good thinking there Kyle. Easy idea, wonder why I didn't think of it" he said, smiling as he shot at the Covenant with his pistol. Kyle shrugged. "Nothing else we can do. Unless you want to stand up and charge forward, throw a grenade, then run your ass back here" he said. Charlie shook his head, smirking, then concentrated on his shot. Kyle crouched up as well, firing his assault rifle at a Grunt that ran out to far. It fell over backwards, dead. He was about to fire again, when he heard the sound of engines. He looked up into the sky and realized what the sound was. A Pelican dropship was circling above them. The turrets turned to fire at it, but immediately, the marines opened fire to create a diversion and the turrets shot back at them. The passenger ramp opened, and a large crate could be seen being lowered. Suddenly, it fell off the ramp and descended toward them. A parachute enveloped from the top of the crate, which slowed it down. Kyle crawled away from his cover spot and helped guide it to the ground, with the help of several other marines. It landed just behind the old Covenant radio camp which they were using. Kyle broke the latches around it and pushed open the door. He heard a huge cheer from behind him. They pulled out huge boxes carrying MA5B assault rifles, Pistols, Sniper Rifles, Jack Hammers and tons of ammo for each of those guns. Packages containing frag and plasma grenades. The rest of the boxes had medical kits and surgeon packs. The Lieutenant had several marines gather up some of them, and told them to give them to the field medics on the beach. They still had some medical kits and one surgeon pack. Kyle stood back as the marines gathered what they needed. This was a lot of supplies, but was well needed. He merely grabbed some grenades and a little bit of ammo. Nighthook looked up and saw the Pelican dodge around, avoiding several plasma shots, and then accelerating back into space. Kyle hoped they got back okay. He returned to his spot near Corporal Cunningham and continued to try to peck off the Covenant. He turned to see the Lieutenant talking to the Master Chief. "You guys take all of the Jack Hammers and as many grenades as you need. Those turrets won't go down easy. Good luck Master Chief" the Lieutenant was saying. Jones and Carlson both saluted and the Master Chief returned it. He turned to his team, and then they together ran down towards the beach and began the long trek all the way around the dune. Kyle turned back to look at the firing squad in front of him and grinned. "So long fuckers" he said.........TO BE CONTINUED.......
