Alpha Omega System, Theta Omicron UNSC Military
Stronghold, Installation Alpha-02, planet Theta Omicron

Installation Alpha-02 is a high-tech fortress. Large plasma-resistant walls with manned watchtowers surround the main structure. Heavy machine gun nests controlled by the base AI also fortify the wall. The installation has large Anti-Aircraft gun emplacements and AA missiles. The installation is also equipped with dozens of Warthog vehicles, as well as a nearby Air Base. Most small installations don't have this much protection, even bases in the outer colony planets were less defended. However, there was a reason this installation is protected so well. Not many people knew this, but a large secret ONI base lay beneath the installation. It didn't matter how well protected the installation was though because they were in the middle of the Human empire and the Covenant couldn't come here.
Corporal Taylor knew the place like the back of his hand. He had been assigned to the installation because of his experience and record. His squad in only a Warthog had been able to eliminate a whole platoon of Grunts with their Elite commanders with only light damage to the vehicle. His squad also knew where to shoot a Jackal's shield to knock them off balance. They also knew that it was best to take out an Elite first because they are the most dangerous and because the Grunts under the Elite's command usually turn around and run which makes them easy targets. Taylor hated the Covenant for all the people they had murdered and the planets they destroyed. Taylor knew he wasn't going to be killing anything today though. His squad and three others under his command were just going on a recon mission through the forest near the installation.

Taylor opened the COM. "This is Recon leader to Recon squads 1-3. We are about to enter the forest so break off and begin your patrols."
"Aye, aye sir!"
Taylor's squad kept moving forward as the rest of the Warthogs broke off onto their own patrols. Taylor wished that today would be the day the Covenant got their own asses handed to them by him in combat. He wished he could fight today. It had been two years since he was "selected" to protect the installation. Two full years of recon and waiting. Taylor knew that it was safe here but he would rather be on the front line than sitting around waiting. Suddenly his squad broke his train of thought.
"What are ya trying to do Anderson, hit every damn log and rock in the forest?" Lewis joked as the squad fishtailed over a small rock.
"So what Lewis, I've seen a drunk Grunt on a Ghost drive better!" Anderson replied.
Taylor cracked a rare smile. His squad always joked around on recon missions, but they were just too distracting. "Why don't both you shut up? The faster we finish this, the more time we have to joke around later."
"Yes sir!"

The mission was boring as usual, just a regular recon. That was until they received a distress signal over SATCOM.
"Taylor, get your ass back to base! We just received word from a UNSC Task Force in orbit that a Covenant Fleet has just entered the system close to the planet!" Sergeant Carlson screamed over the mic.
"Roger that Sergeant! Recon Squads 1-3 form up. We're heading back to base." Taylor received nothing but static. "Recon Squads 1-3 do you read me?" Again their was nothing but static. "Must be this damn forest." Taylor then looked to his right and saw huge Covenant troop carriers landing as several Seraph fighters began strafing the forest. "Holy crap! Anderson turn this thing around!"
"Damn, brace yourselves!" The Warthog made a full speed turn and sped towards the installation. As they tuned they spotted Recon Squad 2 as it opened up on the Covenant troops. A few seconds later, an explosion ripped through the forest as Recon Squad 2 turned into a fireball, flipping end over end.
Taylor opened a COM channel with Installation Alpha-02. "Sergeant, there is a huge Covenant ground force moving Northward from the forest!"
"Understood Corporal..." A second voice broke over the COM.
"Sir! We have reports of incoming ground forces from both the North and East. Give me a second... Oh shit! Sir, there is a large radar contact moving Southeast at a velocity of over a hundred kilometers per hour! Aircraft! ETA is 90 seconds!"
"Lieutenant, where the hell are my fighters from Airbase Delta!" Carlson yelled.
"Sir! There are no more fighters; they were wiped out en route! A young soldier yelled frantically.
"Alright everyone evacuate the command bunker!
Another voice was heard. "Watch out!" The sound of Anti-Aircraft batteries drowned out the COM. An explosion was heard followed by screams. The hiss of plasma and breaking bones filled the COM. The channel broke to static then went dead.
"Lewis try to get the Task Force on the COM." Taylor demanded as the Seraphs turned back around for another bombing run.
"Sir, the Frigate Allegiance is on the COM." Lewis replied shortly.
"Good, patch me through."
"This is Rear Admiral James Franklin, commander of the Task Force. What is going on down there?"
"Sir, the situation is bad. The Covenant have landed a large attack force that is closing in on Installation Alpha-02. I do not, repeat do not believe we can repel this attack. We need reinforcements, and from the looks of things we are going to need a whole hell of a lot of troops quick!"
"Sorry, but I can't spare any more troops but I think I may have another option..."

Alpha Omega System, Aboard UNSC Frigate Allegiance in
geosynchronous orbit over Theta Omicron

Touya 035 strode down the busy hallways of the Frigate Allegiance. Among the best in the UNSC, the Spartan-II's were the greatest warriors the world had ever seen. Touya commanded some of the best Spartans. They were outfitted with black Mark V MJOLNIR armor for Stealth Ops. He and the rest of his team were still resting after the battle for Reach. His team had barely made it out in a Pelican dropship after the shit hit the fan during the planetside mission on Reach. Some didn't. The battle for Reach had been so costly. For both the UNSC and the Spartans. On Reach Touya alone had lost three Spartans. Touya wondered if any of the other Spartans had made it. Touya had the strangest feeling that their leader, Master Chief John-117 was still alive. Touya was in such deep thought that he walked into a squad of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, or "Helljumpers" as they liked to be called.
"Hey watch where your walkin' ya freak!" A young ODST yelled.
"What can't cha do something without being told?" Another ODST said with a laugh.
"Swanson, Davidson shut the hell up! Don't you know who that is? Well, I'll tell ya who that is! That is CPO first class Spartan 035. Not only is he a commanding officer, he has more confirmed kills than all of third battalion put together! A battle hardened lieutenant stated.
"What? Oh, well umm we should get going. Watch where you are walking sir." The commander said with a scared look on his face.
Touya frowned under his faceplate. Everyone he met seemed to either be afraid of him and his record or hate him. A few minutes after the encounter, Touya reached the bridge.
"State your name, rank and purpose." A young marine calmly stated.
"Spartan 035, CPO first class reporting as instructed." Touya replied with a salute.
"Spartan 035, the Admiral has been waiting for you."
Touya strode over to the command chair and was quickly greeted by an average sized man with piercing black eyes and brown hair with a streak of gray hair visible along the sideburns. The man also was fit but not very heavily built.
"Ah, Spartan 035, how is your team feeling? That was one hell of a fight."
"My team and I are ready, willing and able for any mission."
"That's good to hear. Oh, I heard that one of your team members left the med bay against the doctor's orders."
"Yes. One of my team members did leave but he is tough and he can take the pain."
"I read a report that said they had suffered third degree burns to their right arm from the hand up to the right side of their neck though. According to the doctor, that is enough to leave even a Spartan in the med bay for two weeks."
"Sir, as I recently stated he can take the pain. I request permission that he can go on the next mission, whenever it is."
"Alright, I guess you Spartans are pretty tough. I am not sure when the next mission is going to be though. When I find out I will contact you..." The man at the radar console cut off the Admiral.
"Sir, long range scanners have picked up a group of ships entering the system! Evaluating... Sir, the silhouettes match. They're Covenant!"
"Bring the ship to full combat alert. Contact all planetside forces, the rest of the Task Force and HIGHCOM on Earth!" The Admiral commanded. "Spartan 035 assemble your team in Dock 06. Contact me when you're ready!"
"Yes sir!" Touya opened up a COM channel with the rest of his team. "I want all of you to meet me in Dock 06 with heavy combat loads. Double time!" A series of acknowledgment light winked on.
Touya sprinted down the hallways of the frigate Allegiance and into the Armory. He quickly grabbed a Battle Rifle, 10 clips of AP rounds, a shotgun, half a dozen grenades, and 2 standard issue pistols with several clips of ammo. He then sprinted down another hallway and onto an elevator and punched the button for Deck 13. Touya hopped off the elevator and ran his way into Dock 06 where his fellows Spartans were waiting. Touya buzzed the bridge.
"Touya, I've received a message from groundside forces. They need back up, so you and your team are being dropped into a forest close to a Military Installation were you will mount a defensive and repel Covenant forces. Understood?" The Admiral asked.
"Yes sir! Touya over and out." Touya responded. He and his team quickly piled onto a waiting Pelican. As its engines roared and it sped down to the surface of Theta Omicron, Touya turned to face his team, and he smiled under his mirrored helmet.
