A Traitor: part 1
Date: 6 July 2004, 11:20 PM

A chill ran down Private Martin's spine as he walked down the hall towards the Briefing Room. He was thinking about Brian's trial. Martin and his platoon were on a mission about three weeks ago. Their objective: to capture a Covenant grunt for interogation.

Everything was running smoothly. They had captured a lowly orange-ranking grunt. They had detained him in a cage on their pelican,Charlie 207, so he would be there when they secured the area around the pelican. Everything seemed fine when Brian had asked to go and check on the grunt. Little did we know he was going back to let the grunt loose.

He was Court-Martialled the next day. Martin had always remembered those words that Brian had said as he was being drug out of the court room. The UNSC will pay, they will pay! Brian had escaped the next day....

Martin snapped back to reality as he walked up to a door that read:Briefing Room. As the Private opened the door, he stared into the eyes of his platoon.

"It's about time, Private!" Yelled an angry Sarge. Martin took his seat next to Corporal Peters as the Sarge began speaking.

"Okay team, our scanners have picked up a heckuva lot of Covenant activity in Sector 4. We're goin' in to see what they are up to........and eliminate them.

"But, sir, we were just deployed a week ago!" A brave Corporal Peters said.

"Stow it, marine, you do what the Admirals tell you to do, ya' hear!" The Corporal slumped back down in his chair. "As I was sayin'," The Sarge continued,"We leave immediately." Everybody reported to the hangar 5 minutes later and suited up. Once they had piled into the pelican. dubbed Bravo 37, an eerie silenced fell upon the platoon. Martin checked his MA5B Assault Rifle as the pelican lifted off towards Sector 4.

***************

"ALLLRIGHT, MARINES!" Martin shot awake as the Sarge's voice boomed through the pelican. "PILE OUT!" Everyone stumbled out of Bravo 37 and scanned the area with their weapons. The pelican lifted off and shot towards the base. The Private watched as the pelican curved over the mountaintop into the serene sunset.....

Martin stared at the newly-established Covenant base in awe, and a little bit of fear, too. Sandbags were piled randomly around the base. Martin and his platoon took cover behind a group of sandbags just as a grunt patrol passed in front of them.

"Fire at will." The Sarge said. The platoon lifted up and opened fire. Martin shot a three-round burst into the nearest grunt. As the bullets tore through the grunt, neon blue blood shot out of the exit-wound in it's chest. It gurgled as it crumpled to the ground. The rest of the squad finished off the remaining grunts.

The team moved up to the next group of sandbags and scanned the west side of the base. Corporal Mendez, the team sniper, spotted an Elite on one of the sniper balconies. He used his modified 20x scope to see the weapon the Elite was carrying.

"Sir, that Elite is using one of those new plasma sniper rifles!"

"Take him down, Mendez!" The Sarge boomed. Mendez leveled his sniper rifle at the Elite. He put the Elite's head in his modified scope and pulled the trigger. Up above, the Elite's head exploded, misting the balcony with a purple hue. The Elite's limp body crupled and fell off the balcony into the barracks below.

      "Woohoo!" the team cheered.

Field Master 'Tosolee was doing his patrol route when a lowly grunt came up to him.

"Your Excellency, I....." The poor grunt didn't even get to finish his sentence because an Elite's headless body fell upon him. 'Tosolee raised an eyebrow. The poor grunt's body was easily crushed under the Elite's weight and neon blue blood oozed from it's mouth.

'Tosolee reached down to his combat belt and pulled up a radio. "Bryann, the humansss are here, you said no one would come!" The Elite barked,"This may jeopordize our mission!"

"Don't worry, 'Tosolee, they will prove no threat, eliminate them!"

Who are you to give me orderss, human!'Tosolee thought as he turned the radio off.

Martin's team had made it to the base's front entrance. It was guarded by two red-armored Elites. His team was lined up on the top of a wall, well out of sight of the Elites.

"FIRE AT WILL!" Yelled the sarge. Every member of the platoon opened up fire on the two Elites. The Elite's shields flickered and died. Corporal Peters pulled out his M6D sidearm and planted a bullet into the Elite's skull. The whole front of the Elite's face caved in and a mixture of blood and brains dribbled out of it's nose.

The other Elite took notice of this and went mad. He held down the trigger on his plasma rifle and one of the stray bolts struck Corporal Peters in the chest.

Private Martin shot one last three-round burst into the Elite's chest. The Elite's chest exploded and washed the ground below him in purple.

The squad turned their notice to the downed Peters. They hung their head in sorrow at the lonesome death of Corporal Peters. They folded his arms over his chest and laid his rifle over him.

"LLet's move in." Said the Sarge in an uneasy voice, for he too, felt bad for the loss of Peters.....
