Section 1 Watchman 1610 hours, December 15, 2551 (Military Calendar) /Astral System Sicily Station, Medical Wing B-89, planet Troy_________________________________________

Orientation

The sapphire like plates of the MLONIR armor clicked and scoured at Glenn's torso. The Spartan gritted his teeth as the medical officer removed his air scrubbers from his helmet and smoothed them with a brushing whisk.

Glenn took a second to marvel at his armor, so elegant but rough and intricate at the same time. It was difficult to believe that this cuirass derived from the pious dolts they were fighting now.

The MLONIR armor was just a design of what the Spartans truly were. They were observant, tactical, and determined, as they were brutal and swift. Glenn 63 as his ranking officers referred to him as, thought of himself as gifted.

He was unique as his designer; Doctor Catherine Halsey alluded him as. Since the training on Reach Glenn was more than what the Spartans were. He was beyond observant he was anxious, he was more than tactical he was resourceful and he excelled determined he was driven…

The Spartan was a leader, not just any leader. He did not precede Spartans into battle like his other comrades did but he guided ODST's into battle. Glenn portrayed a certain boldness that the Helljumper's lacked.

Which was why he was a leader, he was the soldier that ran into combat no matter what the odds. This was the embroidery of Doctor Halsey's creation one he would burden forever…or until death would take him.

"Turn, please" The officer said as he flourished a small rod that had foam bubbling from the tip as he gave a pallid smirk.

Glenn turned and felt the biofoam droop into his plates and into his layers of shielding. He tasted the brass like sip and gave a foul cough as the foam continued into his body. The froth tucked and molded into his structure while he moved his arms side to side. He felt the raw plasma scores wash into his skin like lathered soap and he nodded the officer in thanks.

"My job, Watchman. You took quite a beating from the Covenant, eh?" He said setting the aided dressings on a sterilized table.

"My job, too"

Glenn laughed silently to himself under his visor he was still getting used to that name…Watchman.

The Helljumper's truly did have a sense of humor and a sense of pride. Early in his training, Glenn was removed from Reach and taken to civilian-based systems to protect and serve. He was given the diverse azure armor, marked V for the armor, and was thrust into battle.

They named him, Watchman for his sentry like qualities and inherent defending instincts. The name stuck and the designation was somewhat like a rank. Glenn held the name with discernment and self-respect as he traveled.

Watchman stood and casually stretched, adjusting his arms into the bulk of the forearmor. He glanced into the abode of space through the window; the stars flickered and gave a misty turbulence over a planet.

Troy gleamed silver and green emitting a alluring aspect. The stripped oceans from terraforming were gaunt in places and he admired the single city for the deficiency of tenancy to the sea.

Arditol City sparkled with fashionable shine, the construction was the crux of the world. Glenn's home was on Earth, in America. He was only 6 when he was taken to Reach and he was introduced to Petty Officer Chief Mendez and his comrades in the future.

SPARTAN 63 the designation he was granted was debasing as he remembered it. Being directed everywhere and ordered everywhere being called that, he was confused and distraught that he would never see his family again…

But he had a family, all the Spartans. They would help each other, they would fight alongside another, and they would die together. And now he was removed from his family and placed into this fleet.

Glenn shrugged the adversity away and he stepped into an elevator. The Spartan pushed the button on the console, his fingers were unnaturally large but he managed to activate the transit.

Glenn looked outside the window and into space. He stopped gazing and saw his reflection in the black void. The Spartan was chiseled with a muscular build and his dexterous body was admiring. Watchman had azure colored armor, which gripped his body like a glove. He was at least 7 feet tall, but his athletic build conferred a completion that he could not contend with.

Watchman grabbed his helmet and tugged, watching the steam hiss from the air scrubbers. His long hair was matted with beads of sweat and his face was handsome and pale from the obscurity of sunlight.

He tucked his helmet by his belt plate and watched the green lights on the console ping to a halt. The doors opened and there was a corridor of energetic workers. Carrying suitcases with patches of lasers running down the cases.

The Spartan bustled into a open bay, and saw a cryopod right to the inhibitors. He stepped inside the pod and nodded to the officers on the platform near the ceiling.

"You tired, Watchman?" The officer replied adjusting the pins on the console for the pod.

Watchman laid on the bedstead, he placed his helmet on his head and the tubes and plates clicked into his cheeks. He gathered his bearings and he wore a wearied look under his visor.

"You know how it is, you try to save the world and you get a little exhausted" The Spartan muttered in a gruff voice just as he slipped into a very uncomfortable drowse.

Prologue

Admiral Duane Vance looked over the viaduct on the station. Marines and officers in navel conduct walked with duties to attend to. The trenches of the viaduct carried terminals that shimmered with blue cords running through solid twines in the wall. Vance walked to the center platform and pressed a lighting button on the monitor.

"Ciel, bring up the profile of SPARTAN-63" Vance proclaimed easing his finger off the light.

"Yes, Admiral" A voice uttered from the terminal.

The voice combined into a small body. The body of the Artificial Intelligence, Ciel appeared on the receptacle spindle on the console. Ciel was the station AI, he glinted the color of Troy. A heavenly blue, the name Ciel meant Sky in French, and derived from Troy itself.

The AI had little numbers floating through his light blue body. The numbers were dates that reflected periods of time that were significant to Humanity and the UNSC. Ciel had a agile frame for a Intelligence and he had a surmising sensibility that sometimes got a little gladdening from time to time.

Ciel put his hand to his head and looked like he was concentrating, a second later a figure replaced the pennant on the screen and a report followed:

RE: SPARTAN-63-Watchman

Spartan 63, Watchman, is the reassigned member of the SPARTAN-II project. Transferred from Reach to serve as a sentry to Troy, and leader of the privileged Orbital Drop Shock Troopers in Troy and Sicily Station. (UNSC barrier, authorized 34, Magnetic Accelerated Cannon assemblage) Watchman is enhanced to suppressing strategy and initial tactician in ground and sky forces. As a Spartan he is trained to be silent and expedient in combat situations.

His armed skills are unique and moderately unrivaled to Humans. He is the sole Spartan of the sector and is molded with experience and capability. Watchman is recognized to be superior to the Covenant troops, in aviation, and weaponry as the combat conditions are included. Previous missions are prohibited to collective detail.

Vance knew Watchman from when he was a shifting Colonel, he was very advisable and was pledged to protect. Who knew in a few hours a Covenant fleet would be in orbit around the planet? Vance was ready for them. The devastation would cease as they had him. The Spartan Project was truly a success.

Section 2 Pledge 1605 hours, December 15, 2551 (Military Calendar) /Astral System Sicily Station, Cryobay A-03, planet Troy______________________________________

Just another day…

The Spartan got up from the cryobed; he stepped from the frigid and uncomfortable pod and looked up into the domicile of space. He was on the single station that was standing immobile above the planet Troy. The station shimmered like a solid terminal, Sicily Station was the only UNSC complexity on this sector, and Fleet Admiral Vance was plotting more construction for a blockade on the outer worlds.

Fleet Admiral Duane Vance was the commanding officer of Sicily and he managed the protocol with finesse and capability. Vance was a tolerable leader and he preceded with an iron fist upon the station.

Glenn 63 looked up to this man, in the face of impossible odds he still contained valor where even the Marines could not strive. He looked into the planet below; it was an innocent gem which faith and obscurity could only preserve. It was almost as precious as Earth or Reach, though not as populous.

Watchman limped to the tramcar, his leg felt tired with intensity, he never enjoyed cryosleep even when it was the only bed fitted for a Spartan. He punched the console's key and the hatch slid to the side and gave a metallic hiss.

It slid down the tracks into a dome of glass, and it was like being into a cupola clear into space. The Spartan spectacled outside, two suns stood on the opposite sides. One, Pocius Potius, Latin for elegance. And the other, Suffmisse, Latin for astonishing. The two suns licked the black like a hissing fire, as Troy was central to the daystars.

A few Longswords whipped past the cupola, hovering amongst the space probes that were scanning for hostiles. Glenn grabbed the lever on the screen and pulled lightly. The tram skidded and halted. The glass door split and the Spartan stepped out. There were dozens of Marines and two approached Watchman.

"Sir, we've got to get you to the viaduct, Admiral Vance is expecting you" The Marine saluted and abated.

"Very well Marines, guide on" Watchman ordered at them.

Glenn followed them, they climbed a staircase, passing other officers in uniform. The viaduct was an elevated structure overlooking the entire station. It looked a like building inside a building, located at the top of a towering spire.

There were radar's and computers everywhere, communication outlets with blipping blue screens of locations and numbers flying at random. In the center of the viaduct were three solid screens, one had Earth with vectored Slipspace entry's around a blockade of MAC-Stations. The other had an enormous image of Reach with other Slipspace entrances around a cluster of ships. And the center had the UNSC emblem on it in dark teal.

Marines without uniforms were seen behind the terminals typing at the console with fierce twitching. And they snapped in salute as Watchman walked down the ramps of steps. In the center of the viaduct Admiral Vance stood at the UNSC emblem, and looked below in a trench with organized tiers of terminals and pointed and ordered signals at the Marines below.

Watchman approached the Admiral and saluted. Admiral Vance was black he revealed a perfect set of white teeth, he had a muscular build and wore white military uniforms. He outstretched his hand and the Spartan shook it, managing an upright posture.

"Nice to see you, Glenn. It's been quite lonely in the station" The Admiral said, admiring the physical appearance of the Spartan as unmatching.

"Admiral Vance" Watchman said, snapping his arms into a straight stance.

"I'll cut right to the chase, Watchman. Recently, we have received a impure message from the Oblivion-Class vessel, Olympus. They were en route to Troy carrying troops to supply Sicily, when they clashed with a Covenant assault carrier. The officers on board disposed of Earth vectors, but they were detracted to erase the planet they were on route to. The Olympus was discharged with plasma. But the data regarding to vectored colonies was retained by the Covenant. With our intelligence, we have acquired that the Covenant posses Troy's sector, and are bulking a fleet capable of a planet's destruction." Vance finished with a grim expression.

Watchman was speechless, but he gripped his training with preference.

"What is requested of me, sir?"

"As soon as we receive Starside intercept, we engage and repel. You will lead to the overthrow of the ground forces and protection of civilians. We will begin firing on the carriers that will eliminate orbital glass." Vance said.

At these words a alarm sounded, and red lights dropped from the ceiling and appeared on the screens.

"Ciel, report!" Vance ordered at the AI.

Ciel shot up through the spindle. "We have contacts, intercepts, and vectors on Slipspace entrance"

"How many?" Watchman asked the Intelligence.

"There are 10 additional cruisers, fleet of 4 assault carriers and 6 capital ships holding a position from Sicily"

"Sir! We have boarders inbound on Arditol City, pods firing everywhere" A officer from behind a terminal said with tenseness.

Watchman looked up and saw carriers over the station, the purple, dense with the fleet as they slowly cruised toward the planet.

Vance turned and nodded at the Spartan. "Defend Troy"

"Yes, sir" Watchman saluted.

He bounded for the launch pods, taking a Battle Rifle from a nearby cylinder container.

"All Helljumpers, follow Watchman to hard drop. Let them pay…" Vance said over the intercom.

'Oh I will' The Spartan thought adjusting this new rifle…

Section 3 In debt 1230 hours December 23, 2551 (Military Calendar) /Astral System, Troy Defensive Platform, Sicily System, Launch Bay______________________

Win-Win Situations…

"We go feet first straight down!" The Helljumper's motto of war melodiously echoed through the Comm of the Spartan's mask.

Watchman remained silent; the freezer gave him an unsounded mind as the feeling of frigid ice touched his armored skin. The Spartan gaped at the viewscreen at the right of his seat. Troy's gem-like surface flickered a glass of plasma at the center of the Fleur, the clouds were screened with the blue plasma and they broke from the ocean with soundless explosions.

Spartan 63 shifted uneasily in this seat, the drop bases were not made for 7-feet tall Spartans. Glenn looked into the screen and watched in dismay and anticipation as the Covenant starships slipped into cannon salvos. They embraced the fire, and the smolder cleared. The ships crackled lustrous shields and continued into salvos, continuing to bombard the planet with cracks of blight.

"I'm punching" Ciel muttered from within the base of the launch bay.

The launch sequence emitted beeps inside Glenn's head, and then before the Spartan had a chance to grab his helmet the pods dropped into the domicile below…

"Good luck, 'Jumpers…" Ciel said through the Comm channel in the pod already releasing a pool of static in Watchman's helmet.

The shock of the fall gripped the Spartan's stomach and they were hurled downward…

Watchman suddenly glanced at the screen in the mach and noticed something very odd about the Covenant's bombardment. He realized that the siege of Troy was not a glass, not a complete one…

The plasma was all outside Arditol City in the tropical Fleur and the other oceans around the world. All but the city where Seraphs whirred by the pods and dived toward the city. It was obvious the Covenant was up to something…

The pod tackled an air pocket and curled into an unexpected and gracious twirl down into the city. The Spartan felt hot, he looked at the vital monitor on the arm of the base-156º The Helljumper's calming laughs at the heat silenced the explosions. The Spartan began to sweat but his air scrubbers reacted to the pace of hotness his body withdrew and glazed his skin with cool air.

The atmosphere burned away through the screen and the Spartan and the faction of ODST's spurted downward to the torrid metropolis…

The pods crashed into the alloyous streets, the Covenant Dropships streamed over them, ignoring them. Watchman felt a stab of excitement-he punched the slab of the door and it hissed and blew off its hinges to the side of the street.

The battlefield or battlestreets was complete chaos. Towering spires that were people's apartments were now melted slag. A sign overhead had a sweltering landscape, the two suns, Suffmisse and Potius took opposite shifts at lighting the world, and the flag of Troy was embedded in a map of Arditol.

The sign was flipped over a sleek sports car and Watchman saw with dread, blood under the yellow car. A man lay dead in his own wet blood; the burns of small plasma bits drenched the man's leather coat.

Hopefully the people got to the shelter rim quickly enough. Evacuations were always hurried when Covenant entered the systems. Glenn raised his Battle Rifle and traced a dropship to a winding platform.

The Helljumpers followed their leader and crouched as they flocked toward the dropship. The Spartan clenched his fist and waved two fingers in a spin. The Shock Troopers fell out and took their own diverse positions behind chunks of debris and metal and aimed at the dropship.

The ship dropped additional patrols, 4 Grunts-cannon fodder, easy targets, no threats, 3 Jackals-Nuisances, uncertain when together, and 2 Elites-Primary soldiers, equally threatening, execute on sight…

The Spartan heaved his Battle Rifle and brought his visor to the scope. He ranged 2x onto the Elite's head and pulled the tight trigger. The Elite turned and looked at the Spartan and looked rather shocked…

Glenn couldn't blame him the Covenant didn't have a lot of experience with his kind-lucky for him.

With an obvious grace, Watchman sidestepped over a fallen palm tree as plasma whipped past his shoulders. The Elite aimed its Plasma Rifle at the Spartan and pinched the energy brace binding the plasma inside the intricate gun. Glenn rolled sideways; he ignored his weight of half a ton and spun into a spring.

The Spartan shot the alien in the split head and it fell under his head. Purple gore splashed at Watchman's chest and spattered off like an oozy fluid. More aliens circled their fallen leader and aimed directly at Glenn.

In seconds the Helljumper's bounded for the circle and slashed the Grunts with bullets. They fell and the Jackals turned at the humans, facing two threats. Watchman took advantage of the Jackal's exposed head and fired three-short spurts at the alien and they tore threw it's skull with ease.

The remaining shields dissolved in a short burst and the trouble just started there. A Zealot Elite waved an Energy Sword at the humans. It growled splitting its mandibles in a war cry.

The gold armored alien whisked into a run toward the Spartan. The Helljumper's and the Spartan focused an aim on it as its shields eventually were consumed, as it was on the street in a barred lipped grimace.

Then from out of nowhere a bolt of energy hit him square in the chest and his shields gave way under his HUD. His visor was splattered with his own blood and he couldn't see, all he could make out was a bulky outline of a Elite aiming a Plasma Rifle at him.

His vision blurred a white veil was over a archway…

An arched gateway drenched in white pearls and silvery curtains hung over his mind…

A flitting shadow of a woman paced through the open arch…

She was absolutely gorgeous, stunningly beautiful…

Then another shadow briskly moved from the arch…

He was that of a muscular man, an Admiral of war, a leader…

Vance moved around the woman and gave a squint toward the Spartan…

The woman eased to the Spartan, and smiled, reflecting a perfect smile…

Then from a pull in his heart he remembered his training on Reach before he was transferred…

A combatant of war had no affection…No love, no feelings…

With a sudden smack in his head he realized there was no living without those emotions…

And before he could see what lay beyond the arch a hand pulled him from a hypnotic stance…

The sounds of plasma returned, bullets ricocheted from alien flesh and drove into the shields puncturing doom on the Elite's eyes.

"C'mon, Watchman lets blast these bastards from the city!" A Helljumper said…

With a silent nod he returned to the battle…

Section 4 Boom in the Night B + 1290 hours December 23, 2551(Spartan 63 mission clock) Arditol City, Troy___________________________________________________

I came, I saw, I conquered…

Watchman kneeled to a fiery writhe, the air overhead was dense with plasma and the Banshee in the sky issued a scream of cannons. The street around him melted under the hot fuses.

The shrieking fighter streaked a crane in the middle of a construction site with a fuel rod cannon. The crane gave way and slammed into piles of debris clearing a deluge of smoke formed from a downed Pelican. While a spiraling silver ribbon of metal dropped toward the Spartan.

With inhuman-like reflexes Glenn bolted into a spring and leapt out of the way. The metal slab crashed into the street and created a small crater behind the Spartan. A dead Marine lay at the feet of Watchman and a expelled Rocket Launcher fixed next to him.

Coincidence-Absolutely not…The Spartan did not believe in those…

Glenn picked up the Launcher flexing his biceps into the slide. He suddenly reacted as the Banshee flew down for a second round…He jumped as he placed a 102mm charged rocket into the butt.

Watchman gripped the slide and pulled…The rocket streamed to a arch over the Banshee. The Elite Pilot realized the threat and performed a aerial roll where the rocket soared back over the wings. But the rocket did not lose momentum and continued to chase the Elite…

Then with a silent laugh the Spartan received a idea. He switched to a Battle Rifle on his sidearm and zoomed through the scope at the Banshee. He chipped the wings with his Rifle as the rocket continued to glide to the Banshee…

The Elite Pilot, distracted by the Spartan's deviation, lost speed and turned toward him…Big mistake and the last one…

The rocket shattered the Banshee in violet wreckage; with a smirk Watchman moved to the right and saw his faction of ODST's pursuing a trio of Jackals. Nerveless the Sniping Jackals dropped their Particle Beam Rifles and had their hands groping on a Plasma Pistol over their heads running like cowards.

Watchman shot at the shieldless aliens and they dropped in a single headshot. The Helljumper's rounded near another trio of Grunts pestering wounded Marines. The Marines sported bandaged arms and raised their Magnums and fired at the diminutive creatures and with the bullets they fell.

"Medics! On these Marines, others follow me!" The Spartan barked authoritivly.

"Sir" They responded and quickly got to the moaning Marines.

The already bandaged arm had green burns on it and it needed to be refitted with MedCapsules. The other Shock Troopers followed their leader. Glenn stridden over a patch of drifted beach sand; nearby he saw parts of the Fleur riding sand out onto the pavement.

In the ocean a watchtower stood, a beacon ignited and the two suns slowly descended exposing a dark cityscape. The beacon signaled a diverse of meanings, detection or security purposes from enemy.

The watchtower stood high in the clouds like an edifice scraping the verge of space. Watchman examined the night over Arditol; the two suns, Suffmisse and Pocius Potius were obscured by the bloody horizon.

The Covenant Carrier beamed a flush of purple down into the pinnacle of the watchtower; Watchman frowned as he examined blips of red on his HUD behind him, and they were immense dabs, symbolizing enemy on vehicles.

The Spartan turned and made out a band of Ghosts vividly lighting the streets. A downed lamppost sparked revealing the Elites behind the alien crafts. The Ghosts increased toward the Helljumper's, releasing twin cannons on the troopers.

The troopers fell one by one under the plasma; Watchman lunged forward, tossing a Fragmentation Grenade into the cluster. The grenade sparked on the metal and ignited and detonated, the familiar sound of alien screams echoed his eardrums as the extraterrestrial alloy was hurled into the Fleur beach.

One Elite enclosed by the purple pulp of its blood survived while the electric discharges of the alien's shield licked its flesh.

The Spartan raised his Battle Rifle and watched the trickle of purple ooze into the grotesque mandibles of the bloody creature. He fired a final blow, a coup de grace into the alien. It dropped in a terrifying shriek, but out of the corner of Glenn's eye he saw the pallid finger of the Elite close on the encase of the Plasma Rifle.

The plasma splashed into his torso but the Elites finger was constant on the encase…

Watchman dived shredding his armor with guts and sparks. He looked up from the battle; the Helljumper's were divided and clustered at the same time. The Marines blotchy sprains were sustained, and the Medical trained ODST's were holding their weapons high to the next SOB Covenant soldier who dared cross their path.

Over the watchtower the shimmering light rippled, and Phantoms and Banshees dropped floating over the steeple like a mother bear protecting her cubs…

In the brass dock in the Fleur a single combat boat bobbed back and forth with the shift of alien gravity.

The M160Y Trident was a beauty in hydro combat, one cannon on the back of the Trident forked into a spear like prong. The two launchers on the sides split in a splinter, and they connected to the front seat. The wet conduits sprung into the terminal and kindled a flash and reacted to the Spartan's presence.

"Come troopers, we go by waterfront, let's find what the Covenant wants with this tower!"
